With the weather patterns coming over from the USA, I will be surprised if any of these games get finished.

Not a lot of cricket going on.
I've just seen Aaron Beard has retired at the age of 26. Shame as he was a bolter when he first burst onto the scene but injury problems seem to have cost him his pace and now his livelihood.

I remember about five or six years ago where took 4 wickets in a county championship match and the Essex captain at the time said we would see many 5 fers from him. He never made one.

I think he had good pace and may have made more appearances for us had he not been up against two of the best seamers there are in county cricket. Thought he was a better option than Snater given he could bowl close to 90mph but I'm assuming the injury problems have meant he doesn't have the pace nor learned the skills to be a good medium pacer. Or he just wasn't good enough. Although he took 108 wickets at under 35 which is more wickets at a better average than I thought. Perhaps it is purely based on wanting to do something else. I remember Ansari retiring at like 25 not long after he played test cricket for England.

We could do with a 2025 thread. I've been all caught up with La Remontada that I've forgotten about the cricket.
In terms of England watch. Obviously the guys in and around the squad are the ones to watch but by all accounts it sounds like England are going to give Sam Cook a go to bowl the Anderson, Woakes role. At 27, it feels like a good time for him to come in and who knows, maybe he can earn himself a call up for the Ashes. He's not tall, he's not quick, but he's very skilful and showed promise with the kookaburra. I hope he gets a chance.
Ones to watch from a batting perspective are McKinney at Durham, Haines at Sussex, Shaikh at Warks. Rehan Ahmed has been promoted to open for Leicestershire and also worth keeping an eye on his younger brother, Farhan who is in the Notts XI at 17.

Cook in the squad, as is Cox. I suspect Cox will be back up with the batting and my guess is Potts will miss out with the ball and we will see Atkinson and Cook share the new ball with Tongue as the 3rd seamer.
Bashir keeps his place but I wonder how long we will persist with him and whether there will be a temptation to bring Bethell into the XI this summer and share spinning duty with Root.
