When Kulu scored the 4th Spurs goal

yesterday, that was the 83rd goal Spurs had scored in all competitions this season. 53 in the Prem, 2nd behind Liverpool, 30 in cup competitions. With still a dozen Prem games to play and a possible seven more cup games, wouldn`t be surprised if Spurs don`t hit the 130 goals plus for the season.

Remarkable really when you consider the two main strikers, Solanke and Richarlison have been missing for large parts of the season. Goals are now being spread all around the team, forwards, midfielders and defenders all chipping in.

Goals scored in matches:
Five goals or more once
Four goals six times
Three goals eight times
2 goals nine times
1 goal 12 times
0 goals just 4 in the Prem (all 1-0 defeats) and one against Liverpool in the cup

Imagine next season with a fully fit squad under Ange, and maybe one or two players added how good Spurs will be. They will be scoring for fun. Something big is brewing, next season looks big. Maybe even this season with a European Trophy to kickstart the trophy drought.

What good is that if we let in just as many?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs don`t let in just as many, they have let in 58 across all competitions in 41 matches, and that includes 10 against Livepool over two matches, the best team in the country.

So have conceeded 25 fewer. Take away those 10 goals conceeded in two games, then they have a very healthy goals for against ratio.

Facts not for you Sizzle I see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The only fact I care about is that we’re 12th in the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And were like 15th when your mate was sacked. But that was OK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, he had credit in the bank, Ange has scraped 5th and gone backwards.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Credit for winning SFA.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

What has Ange won with Spurs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Still got another three plus years. Plenty of time. Possibly win his first trophy this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He ain’t gonna win $hit, and he sure as f*ck isn’t going to be here another 3 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sizzle started of the week in a very bitter mood.

He hates Spurs winning under Ange.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re not winning under him though, we’re in the bottom half of the table and have no silverware.

Facts don’t care about your feelings.

No one has any silverware so far this season dummy!

It’ll be interesting to hear what the general mood is should we make an early exit from the Europa. I think then fans will take stock and notice where we are in the league with nothing to play for. The faith of most of his fanbase hinges on that one tournament. For me, if he doesn’t win it, he’s gone. It’s that simple. Every manager we’ve sacked under Levy has gone for a lot less. He’s been afforded more grace than any other PL manager in our history.

2 seasons in and only a mid table finish to show for it? Nah, that’s not good enough by any measure. And shipping 17 shots to Ipswich, one on the bar and I think one goal ruled out for offside, is a worrying trend. They’re truly shiiiit yet they clearly had no trouble cutting through us. It’s just too easy and all it takes is a clinical opponent and we’re done. It still feels like we have to score 3 goals + a game to win (as most teams wouldn’t let us off the hook like Ipswich) and that just isn’t sustainable.

100 per cent Ange will still be at Spurs next season. Obvious the unprecedented injuries have all but scuppered the season.

Levy will stick with Ange whatever happens in the last couple of months of the season.

In 41 matches this season, Spurs have only conceeded two or more in just seven matches this season.

Your nonsense about clinical opponents just doesn't stack up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think most do not see it as so black and white.

In the cups this season, we have faced City, United, Liverpool and Villa. The latter 2 knocked us out probably at the peak of our absentees/injuries. Even at full strength, both would have been huge challenges and no certainty of victories in either case.

Even in the difficult circumstances, the Liverpool defeat was a poor performance but look at City. They just got turned over at home to LFc so that is a mark of how good LFC are on their day and in the 2nd leg, they had full strength and played well. We were missing loads of key players and were also didn't play well in a tactic that attempted to keep it tight.

Similar vs Villa although the 2nd half we gave a much better account of ourselves.

Those who just trot out the "out of both cups" or treat those exits as some sort of embarrassing outcome really are not assessing things with any fairness. On our day, like we have shown at Villa several times under Ange, we are the match of them. Some will use these poor results as some sort of evidence that Ange aint good enough, ignoring the positive results which provide evidence to the contrary.

So for me, its how we exist Europa that matters. AZ are no mugs, 4th in their league, equal with Feyenoord who just eliminated AC in the UCL. So we need to do way more than just turn up, but if we have at least one of VDV/Romero back and one of Solanke/Richy back we should be expecting to progress. Probably Frankfurt after that is a further big challenge, and potentially Lazio after that. This competition is not a walk through. Each round to the final we will face strong side well capable of beating us, so to me anyone thinking "win or you're out" is again ignoring circumstances and the difficulty of the challenge.

If we see defeats caused by the same old issues, at whatever stage, then may be we can conclude that Ange doesnt have it in him to address the details which need sorting.

I meant more that a lack of hope will change the perception on our progress with Ange. If we’re out of Europe with nothing to play for, I think the daggers will come out.

Weirdly I’m not all that focused on results, which I guess is a contradiction given the profile of cup football, and the level of importance I’m putting on it. It’s why I’m never truly up if we play badly but win or truly down when we play well and lose. I’m a firm believer in performances becoming habits that, if they’re going well well, lead to results. Equally, like the 3-2 away win against Bournemouth under Conte, lucky wins eventually catch up with you if you’re not playing well. It’s all about performance and that’s why despite the wins against United and Ipswich, I’m still seeing the same frailties defensively that unless they’re rectified, will limit how far we can go under Ange. I appreciate the complexities of what you said earlier about a cohesive press but to my mind, Ange’s tactics don’t have an insurance policy like most teams. If the press doesn’t work, there’s no midfield cover, so they’re in. Same with the full backs. It seems to me that his tactics don’t allow for anyone to be below par because it leaves large pockets for the opposition to exploit. I think the best teams have their attacking philosophy but they also have a “what if” fail safe should that attack be off colour for whatever reason. I can’t help but feel Ange plays ‘all in’ poker but sometimes you have to measure set up with a little more craft and nuance.

Weirdly I’d love to see us going on an amazing run of winning games 1-0. Clean sheets are what we’re missing. You can’t win anything without a tight defence and whether that starts with the press up front or not, is neither here nor there. Either way, it’s not currently working well enough and hasn’t for about a year and a half, injuries or not. We’re just too open.

I largely agree.

We seem to have to play well to win and if we dont we lose. To grind some results, is a good thing, and to a degree that's what we did at Brentford and vs United. Dug in when we had to and did enough to hang on.

We got caught very early by Ipswich, and for me that is another learning lesson. from KO, firstly Gray kick it long straight to them, then the press is so badly conceived, even BJ covering huge distances to close down in CM, him Deki & Bergvall taken out of it with one pass. Bentancur is holding but is beaten.

Ive seen it plenty of times before where we come out, first or 2nd half and try to be super aggressive, and just exposed ourselves (ooh err) to counter attacks.

It's not like that all the time, but we defo need to be more considered, smarter, when we decide to press in this way. Opening seconds in an away match doesn't seem like the right time, especially from a poor upfield long ball.

I have maintained throughout that the tactics are not the issues, especially now we've modified them a bit. Its more a case of when go hard and when to ease off. Its being smart and we still havent learned that, learned to read the situation, and may be thats Ange, may be that's his cooaching, maybe the players just havent sussed it yet.

I expect to see much better management of situations and games from here on in, showing signs that we are learning how to manage games, making more right decisions than wrong.. It still seems a bit chaotic, which could be understandable given we still dont have all our players back, inc. Dom who is a pressing machine.
