ReTrentchment

Was reportedly offered well over 300k a week and still left for the signing on fee. What a traitor. Fans making excuses for him and blaming the club oughta be ashamed of themselves. All will be forgiven and well forgotten when we win another title/CL which no one will see coming, again. People will develop amnesia.

TAA has been criticised a lot in England. Same fans that highlighted his weaknesses are now happy he's leaving Liverpool. I was one of those that wanted to see him in midfield as the whole inverting business was a poor tactic in most games IMO, in addition to his defensive flaws, which rival fans highlighted regularly.

Going by England apps and squad selections, he has never really been the best right back in England, leave alone the continent. He's been mostly 3rd choice or thereabouts and was shoehorned into midfield by Southgate, who is a manager that doesn't fool around in defence, as it was embarrassing having to bench him game after game with his defending not up to standard.

Real Madrid will have to play him in midfield or very high up as he is one of those defenders that hate defending. There will be space in behind. Tricky attackers in La Liga will rinse him every week because he turns like a bus. Decent top speed but acceleration is a joke.

Madrid's right side will be targeted all game every game. He will get assists and sheet because he will get more time to manipulate the ball, but 75% or thereabouts of goals conceded will come down their right side now.

Discuss.

as much as i love trents ability, i will be glad to feel more confident on our rb position against the big clubs.
i am sad to see him go and i do understand his reasoning if a diff challenge is his reasoning. As when Macca left for free back in the 90s, i felt let down.

If, like Suarez, he signed a contract and asked for a transfer whilst stating his reasons. then we made a tidy sum on him. id still be sad but, like Klopp, id wish him well. It feels like its about the money more than the career challenge.
I wish him well but, as always, Liverpool moves on. This summers transfers will be very telling.....

Madrid would only pay 20m, they wouldn't pay any more if Trent signed an extension.
They would just walk away.
So his being loyal wouldn't have got Liverpool any more money.

Real Madrid: “we win too many CL’s, let’s give someone else a chance.. let’s sign TAA”
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Will be interesting to see how he does over there, and how Madrid fans react to his total nonchalance when it comes to the main part of his job … defending. Nobody can deny his stellar contributions offensively, but he’s always been a seriously dozy/lazy player out of possession.

So which will it be

Will Mamba not stand in the way of Trent leaving to Real?
Or will Mamba not stand in the way of the club offering Trent a new contract?

Would have got Liverpool the player. It's either the player or the money. TAA has made sure we get none.

I'm not standing in the way of any of those.

Given that Trent is not the first, and won’t be the last, player that Liverpool have had issues tying down to a contract, I’d be looking more at the club than the player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's the only player we've had contract issues with that isn't over 30 years of age or thereabouts. VVD and Salah dispute is over length of contract.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But there’s still been issues with the club tying down their star players. Trent is a bigger failure due to his age, but there’s a pattern here with Liverpool and their contracts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, there's a pattern that involves the age of players involved, Trent is the one that breaks the pattern actually. Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Salah, VVD etc all have one thing in common and that's their age. Everybody knows Liverpool have a problem with contracts for players over 30 years of age. That's the pattern. We are not gonna distort our wage structure and balance over one player like TAA.

And now he’s leaving for free

Liverpool had been prepared to make Trent the highest-paid English player in the Premier League and had left that offer ‘on the table’ for the 26-year-old to accept.

What more did he want from his boyhood club? Let's call a spade a spade. He took the money and sold out his motherland.
