Archie Gray’s rough afternoon

n spite of such a horrendous league season, it is still possible to be optimistic about Spurs’ future – largely because they have so many talented young players, not least Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, who lined up together in midfield for the first time.

Many Spurs fans regard the pair as the club's future in the middle of the park but, while Bergvall did well enough, this was a rough assignment for Gray, 18, on only his second start at this level in his preferred position.

The England Under-21 international was caught flat-footed for Liverpool’s first goal, with Dominik Szoboszlai darting beyond him to square for Diaz, and had to be stronger for their second. He was easily shrugged off by Ryan Gravenberch before Mac Allister’s brilliant hit.

It was no surprise when Gray was hooked at the interval and you wondered at Postecoglou’s decision to throw him in at the deep end for this game, in front of a much-changed back four. That said, at this stage of Gray’s career, these experiences should be a benefit, provided he reacts in the right way.

The sooner Spurs get rid of Ange Postecoglou the better for the club. The guy's a total idiot..

However the club is planning much more........a major clean out........and the "clean out" has already begun.
Win or lose in the Europa ....nest season will have a much different look....

It’s treatment like this to our young stars that highlight the continuing harm no sacking Ange is doing to our club.

Archie’s confidence must be shot to bits after that treatment.

Lol what a clown opinion.

Had Gray not played the narrative would be, Ange has destroyed his career. Especially from mack the plank.

I'm glad he picked him. Imagine playing at Anfield at 19 years of age. Fair enough he didn't have a good game and got subbed. But at least Gray will have learned a hell of alot. More than he would from sitting on the bench.

The scary thing is Mack actually coaches kids and this is how he thinks? Nut job.

Gray once played CM for Leeds away at the Bridge and boss their two £100m signings. Look up the highlights.

Oh look LLM is here contradicting himself. Has a dig at Ange for giving Gray a chance and then saying the opposite for Moore.

Toxic posters Z z z

After what treatment?

I'm sure he's no snow flake. It was a reminder to him how far he needs to go . It is a learning exercise and all our kids have been thrown in at the deep end at times this season, but that's how you learn.

Bringing kids on in "safe" moments of games when it comfortable teaches next to nothing. Bergvall has flourished by being thrown in but looked poor at the start and has also been hooked at HT, at least once.

Gray has received good plaudits this season as an emergency CB, its clear he now needs to learn how to hold a PL midfield. I am sure the management team are encouraging him and helping him learn frm the experience....you talk as if Ange has gone into the dressing room and balled him out and blamed him for the loss.

I thought it was a wacky decision but one to become expected of our waste of space manager.

Gray played at right back (for leeds) and centre back for us. Yes he wants to play as a midfielder but is away at Anfield in our typical playground tactical, no formation led team the way to try him?

Completely unfair on Gray and again a let down of how to utilise young players continuing the theme.

Moore being misused, hall not being allowed near the first team with ange in charge, hardy being pulled out of youth engagements to sit on the bench but no intention of using him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Challenging the Moore point - I don't know whats gone on behind the scenes but I don't agree on him being mismanaged. 19 appearances (9 starts, 10 subs) totalling around 850 minutes of first team football.

Considering he missed almost 2 months with a virus (anyone know what that is??). I think its been an appropriate amount of minutes for a 16/17 year old to start.

good pts on Gray and match my assessments too...but like you say why expose the boy to such a game? Ange lost my support totally after seeing the team he picked

It was glandula fever.

He is on a contract guarenteing minutes the only way we could stop him from going to Chelsea/City.

Being shunted on the right is an issue and playing well never getting back in then being sent back to the under 21s. Ajayi obviously suffered the same fate and i am not huge on Ajayi's ceiling personally.

I remember that games but he played at right back usually i think he played cm a handful of times if even that?

Not suggesting he cannot play defensive midfield he certainly can but not in this uncoached tactical mess we use.

No contract guarantees minutes, esp. 17 year olds

This is very unlikely to be true. Obviously they'd be caveated by injury/force majeure/conduct provisions but contracts will absolutely exist where minimum appearances are guaranteed if conditions are met.

Not for youngsters like Gray, admittedly.
