yesterday. Inside and outside the stadium, the party was in full swing. Atmosphere even at my age was one of the best ever at a match at WHL. Ange`s name was being sung from all corners of the ground, and on the concourses. Not often a trophy comes along, so fans, especially the younger ones were absolutely milking it to the full. Not a Sizzle or Ted in sight. It was happiness all round.
That`s the first trophy in the cabinet for a while, and with Spurs they tend to be like London buses, once one arrives, then two or three could quickly follow. I honestly believe they will. Obviously the key is to get the best team on the pitch as much as possible. This season a complete write off regarding that. And it is unbelievable that despite all the injuries Spurs have won their biggest trophy for over 40 years.
So that`s the season at an end now. All back to a level playing field for the start of next season. Zero points for the whole Prem. We go again in August. Cannot wait. European Super Cup, Possible World Super Cup. Could Spurs be a triple winner? Probably not, but never say never. Football is a funny old game.
List of winners this season, in order of trophy importance
Tottenham Europa League
Liverpool Premiership
Crystal Palace FA Cup
Newcastle United Carabou Cup
Conference still to be decided. Hopefully Betis.
Commiserations to Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton
Congratulations to Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland
The rest, well no cigar for finishing 2nd and below. Especially our dear South London neighbours. But no hard feelings. You can all pop over to WHL to see what a trophy looks like.
All enjoy your Summer Holidays, and we will all no doubt have some lively debates again once the season starts.
COYS
Fantastic day down at Tottenham

Fridge, you sound bitter that Ange won Spurs a trophy. You are kind of demeaning what a great achievement it was with his injury hit squad.
The fact 150,000 turned out to celebrate it, shows that
you, and a few other, are on the wrong side of history.
So just for once it would be nice if you would just shut the feck up, enjoy the Summer, and come back next season, not quite so bitter.
The fact that you are also throwing personal insults at a guy you have never met, tells us all more about what a piece of work you are, then anything Ange has done to deserve the abuse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've read reports that reckon it was approx 225k at the trophy parade, if that's anywhere near true it's off the scale.
Anyway however many it was it certainly showed that Ange was right to prioritise the Europa over the Prem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course he was. It was a complete no brainer to anyone with a modicum of sense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of the four comps we’ll be in next year, which three do you think Ange will choose to ignore?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully we'll use our CL dosh and new trophy winners status to bring in some class players and get alot luckier with injuries.
That way we can have a proper go at all four.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally, and I know it’s just my opinion, I don’t think the issue lies in personnel. We could sign some absolute bangers and I still think opposition teams will cut through us like a knife through butter. It’s a tactical issue. Our only meaningful success this season was as a consequence of abandoning Angeball.
If Ange can’t even take questioning as to why we’ve finished 17th then he’s clearly blind to his own failings. His response sounds more like a fan - a kind of “feck it, who cares” approach when in reality a manager should be focusing more on failure than success in order to improve. He’s an odd bloke. I don’t know whether he’s faced difficulties in previous roles but he’s the most sensitive manager I’ve ever seen. He can’t take criticism of any kind and he therefore never truly learns lessons.
The rumour is that he’s got a stay of execution, according to those in the know, which allows him the start of next year which I think is fair. If the first 10 games go south, he’s got to go. Simple as that. We can’t afford relegation form again.

So does the 17th place finish not matter?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does it matter? Top wins the league. 18th, 19th, 20th get relegated. Any other position means SFA other than for European qualification. Which Spurs have got bt winning the Europa. Prem is done now, Every team is now on zero points for next season, but Spurs have a big shiny trophy to see them through the Summer.
I really don't get why you are still banging on about the Prem Fridge. It's like you would have been happy with mid table and no trophy, so you could carry on with your ante Ange agenda.
I really don't

He won't ignore any cat the start of the season. Why would he? Circumstances absolutely dictated he targeted the Europa in the New Year, being the only serious route back to European football with the horrendous injury list he suffered from November onwards. That he achieved his target was an absolute miracle, given the injuries were starting to mount again, with the absence of Maddison, Bergvall and Kulusevski for the final.

Because finishing 17th is the truest test of where we are under Ange. It's the most accurate barometer for progress. That's why, although we've won a trophy, I'm seriously concerned about such a sizeable drop off in league form. Yes, you can argue none of it matters because we've got CL football but that perspective feels really black and white to me. We've got 'this' so 'that' doesn't matter, but it does though doesn't it?! If you finish 17th one year, you're not suddenly gonna go on a hot streak and finish top 4 the next are you? Finishing that low down is a sign of a deeper issue that needs addressing, perhaps tactically.
There is absolutely no way that a 17th place finish is a consequence of injury and a shifting of focus. We've put squads out for the Prem that should be good enough to beat the likes of Leicester at home. The narrative appears to be that Ange just decided to focus on the EL but that's simply not true. We only shifted focus when our league form was so poor that we had no choice but to focus our attentions elsewhere. In other words, this wasn't some grand masterplan from the start. It's just something that developed as a consequence of being totally shiiiit. I think Ange is a superb salesman. He's very good at spinning a narrative to make it reflect well on him but no Spurs manager should ever finish 17th and to describe that as outstanding really does stick in the throat. As far as I'm concerned, given the money we spend, a 5th-7th place finish is the bear minimum any Spurs manager should achieve. If they can win a cup alongside that, great. But let's not pretend here that 17th is acceptable just because we neat Alkmaar, Frankfurt, Bodo and United.
I'm happy to stick with Ange because a cup win deserves that, but if Levy has questions regarding our league form, they are completely valid. The rumour is that Levy, Ange and Son met up and Levy had some serious questions about our league form and I think he's bang on for raising that issue. By all accounts Ange left first, most probably in a serious huff.
On another note, part of me does question the professionalism of our squad as a whole. If they are fully backing Ange, as it seems they are, then why aren't they questioning our league form? They might like the guy but if his tactics are seeing us lose week after week, where is the player's will for change? Imagine someone like Roy Keane in this squad. He wouldn't stand for loss after loss. He'd be asking questions of the management as well as each and every player. I'm a bit confused how they can be fully behind a man that has us flirting with the relegation places. A cup doesn't suddenly erase those failings.

Spurs finished 18th under Billy Nicholson. Assume you would have wanted him out of the door as well.
Prem is not of a great quality, and Spurs are as liable to finish top three next season. As are United. Forest were in a relegation battle last season, and this season spent months in the top three, and Spurs have a far superior squad to Forest, if fully fit. No two seasons are ever the same.
posted on 27/5/25
So if you think we have a squad "vastly superior" to Forest, surely we should be higher than 17th? You've inadvertently stabbed Ange in the back with that one.
Bill Nicholson had only had the job for a few months when that happened in '59. He inherited a side 6th from bottom. Completely different circumstances anyway. With the way football works now, money dictates where you finish and if you're finishing 12 or 13 places below where the finances suggest you should be, there's something massively wrong.

Spurs clearly have a better squad than Forest. But HALF of them were injured for most of the season. You are not the brightest are you, that is why Spurs finished 5th the previous season, and Forest 17th. So I haven't stabbed Ange at all. If anything have proved how good Ange is. Top five in his first season, Europa Cup winners 2nd season, with an injury ravaged squad.

Oh and Billy Nicholson took over October 58, so had six months. And Spurs suffered quite a few losses in that time and could easily have gone down. Spurs were the richest club in the country at that time. So don't give me nonsense about finance. On that basis Spurs should have been top in 1958/59 not 18th. Fortunately Sir Billy turned it around with three astute signings. Brown, Nackay and White.
