Is the Prem worthwhile for us ?

As we enter into another post-season, I can't help look around at the business other clubs are doing and the calibre of players they are recruiting. My overwhelming thought in terms of Spurs at the moment is, what's the point in the premier league ?

We just aren't looking at signing the quality of players we need, just look at City and Liverpool's business, with Wirtz (£120mil), Cherki, Reijnders for City, Zubermendi etc at Arsenal. Just feels like the same old circles we and football in general are going around in.

Even if you do overcome the status quo, you face having your best players stolen away. Just look at Leicester after winning the league... Look at Leverkusen after humbling Bayern last year - most of the team has been lost. Brighton, Brentord, Palace etc are similar, as soon as they get close to breaking through, they lose their star men. I believe we are much the same.

There is a certain frustration that creeps in every year, knowing it will be the same similar cycle.

It comes back to us needing new owners to be serious challengers in the league. We simply recruit a similar type of player and are never in the hunt for quality players. Even if we do manage to get close as in 2019, there is an invevitability that it wont be sustained as our model is to take risks on young players with high fees and low wages.

OP

You do realise that Spurs have only won the league twice in their history. Last one 64 years ago, so they have never been a league team really. They are definitely a cup team though. So best just to enjoy the cup successes when they come along, and forget about trying to compete with the financially doped for leagues. Even United and Arsenal haven't won the league for years, despite both spending an absolute fortune.

Sacked a manager for not competing on all fronts, but won’t supply the squad to do so.

I have no idea what spurs stand for anymore. We finally won something and now we start again.

If this is as far as Enic and Daniel levy will take us, I wish they would sell. They’ve made enough money, it’s boring just trying to be fourth every year.

To dare is to do should be scraped off every part of the club until levy leaves.

Competing on all fronts we ended 17th FFS!

He wasnt sacked because we didn't end top 6. Even 7th or 8th and the Europa, plus signs of things improving would have probably kept his job.

But you keep spinning how you spin it to paint everything as negatively as possible.

Spending untold amounts of money doesn't guarantee success. To many average players going for £100 million plus. Most of Spurs most expensive players have been flops. Some of the best players in the Prem were purchased relatively cheapish. Just need to scout properly.

our best playes always move on anyways....
Bale, Modric, Kane...
and probably soon.... Romero

Answer: live with it or become a better club.

I live rent free in there, don’t I?

I don’t need to spin anything. 25 years of facts backs me up

You, and your weird backing of Daniel levy however….

Spin away 👍. Thankfully, your breed are dying out as quickly as the time supreme leader has left.

He was sacked because we came 17th - as i think you have called for repeatedly

He was sacked for losing 22 PL games this season. A sackable offence regardless of having to play 7 midweek Europa games between Feb and mid May.

He was sacked because since our first 10 PL games under Ange (2023), only Wolves and relegated teams have secured less points than us. So that's including a season when we had just one front to fight on.

There are strong mitigating circumstances and i am the first to acknowledge that but then there is also the decision to sack-off the league and gamble on the Europa.

Ange had very little to lose from that. The sack, a big pay off and no doubt off he'd trot to rip it up in a minor league somewhere.

That would have been the worst financial outcome for Spurs barring relegation. Ange would walk away from a feckin mess that would set us back even more

This squad is more than capable of progressing in cups and comfortably maintaining a top 8 finish. Injuries made that difficult to achieve but there is no way things should have been that bad in the league, no excuse for 17th and some of the god awful performances we saw, including the back end of last season when we had fit players.

You want to blame 17th on Levy go ahead. But youve also been wanting Ange sacked for months. So what is it. Ange not backed to achieve more than 17th or Ange being no good?

No need to exaggerate, he is not wishing death on anyone, he just used a phrase to explain that the people who support Levy are disappearing.

Some people on this site at times just leave me in a bemusement.

Mack is the best at making a mountain out of the molehill. Just giving him a taste of his own medicine.

He also likes to polarise.

I'm not defending Levy or supporting him

I'm just pushing back on people who have been clear that Ange should have been sacked for 17th and 22 losses and the try and pin it on Levy because he has unrealistic expectations of fighting on more than one front.

Levy is far from blameless here and for all the mess post poch but justifiably he has sacked a manager whose record other than Europa league campaign, hqs been truly awful and well below what we all expect, even allowing for injuries and the need to improve the squad.
