4. You can't see the benefits yet, be patient.
3. Im not sure either way tbh.

So I will ask another question. Where are all these p[people getting the 1000's of pounds from to pay these gangs to cross the channel ?
--------------------
Why are you aaking this question like it's some kind of gotcha? Think abiht the various ways in which people can get money to pay for stuff? That's probably the answer.
In the very worst cases, they don't pay and are forced into some form of exploitation when they get here.

It should be no surprise that when people are desperate to get out of a war zone, it's the ones with better resources that are most likely to make it out. Among the people fleeing Syria / East Africa are plenty from middle class families (sons of doctors etc) who had the means to pay to get their people out. I suppose part of the reason this sounds jarring is because of the prevalence of the narrative that these are all economic migrants, people fleeing only poverty.

I don't think i see 'economic migrant' as the pejorative others do. Id imagine there would be a high percentage of posters on here that hail from a parent, grandparent or some ancestor, turned up on these shores fleeing poverty and looking for a chance to earn. Good enough for them good enough for the latest bunch of strivers and entrepreneurs

Hector, you're absolutely right. It's a human thing to migrate when conditions are likely to be much better elsewhere, whether that's about safety, escaping poverty or seeing a great opportunity. None of those motivations are unjustified, and those of us lucky enough to be born in richer and more stable countries would be just as likely to move if there were a shift in conditions.
In my previous comment, I wanted to point out that contrasting between different types of migrant is often used as a means to denigrate them. And that can work in all sorts of ways:
"They're not really fleeing for safety. They just want to be better off."
"They can't be genuine refugees if they can afford to spend thousands of dollars to take the journey!"

Why aren't the asylum seekers coming here legally?
I have not said once it is illegal to seek asylum.

Its still so sad that people still are so brainwashed into thinking that immigration is the biggest problem in this country!

Love that they’ve released the data on immigrants claiming benefits.
Farage in the bin YET AGAIN.
