Anyone else getting sick of Modric Hype?

Don't get me wrong, he is a very good player, one of our best players in fact, but he is SO over-rated by some it's ridiculous. The way people go on, you'd think he's one of the best five players in the world.

His ability to control a game at times is fantastic, his dribbling, balance and passing is extremely good. However, he is far from the complete midfielder. He is not worth anywhere near £30M. You can say all you like ''If Henderson is worth 20M then Modric is worth 40M'', well the fact is Henderson is not worth 20M so that's that out the window.

If we were to receive an offer of 25-30M, I would have to accept it. Simply because I think we would benefit more from having a top-class striker with that money than keeping Luka.

Lets sell Modders to Chelsea, Bale to City, VdV to United, Defoe to Arsenal, Sandro to Real Madrid, hell we live to scout, develop and improve these players for the benefit of plastic clubs with plastic fans, why would we want to build a team to win things??? Nah. We'll still have Jenas and Crouch, all is good.

Modric is not worth 30 million.
But his *VALUE* in this inflated market is far more than that, like for that.

He is indeed not performing as the "complete" midfielder (his goal ratio is not as higher as his current international / previous club career) . But like all good players, he can work on that, no.

The premise is so simple. It only requires honesty.

Does Modric want to be part of a future greater Spurs, that will also achieve his aims ??

And if not, why not ?? Is it now about money ??
Or things lacking in the current squad that he believes will never result in the team that can perform to reach his goals ??

Once we have the answers, the club can then act. If tis mercenary, so be it. If other, so be it.

But let the reasons *BE PUBLISHED IN THE MEDIA* well before his departure.

Modric won't suit to Chelsea's tin pot ground. He'll end up like Ramires.

On the other hand Chelsea caused some ripples at spurs which I always enjoy..

Having read through every comment on this discussion board there's a few things i've noticed that i agree with and disagree with.

In regards to the jumping on the OP, hey hey hey, i have no doubt that this guy is a genuine Spurs fan with an opinion, and that is his to air without insults from the more senior members necessary.

My feelings on Modric are mixed and involve many of yours. Like the OP i happen to think he is overrated. I think our fans over exaggerate his qualities, and sometimes i think he's an unnecessary luxury, especially when our strikers aren't on form as he isn;t going to help creatively.

Another thing i've also noticed is how people change their opinions on him when describing what's so great about him. Some say he's creative, but sorry, he's not. He keeps the ball well but if that balls going nowhere that is insignificant.

Where i disagree with you OP is that we should accept £25 mil-£30 mil for him. That's a measly offer in todays market, simple as that and we'd be mugs to accept it. You have to squeeze as much out of clubs as possible and Modric's value in todays market with the interest of the big clubs is easily in the mid 30 million bracket.

Even with this i wouldn't be happy to see him sold as he does a job for us and £35 million cannot guarantee that we could get a quality player in response. If rumours are true regarding player swaps with Sturridge, Drogba and Essien touted, i would shake their hands straight away.

These are players with winning mentalities and experience which would help the team in the case of Essien and Drogba. With the emergence of Sandro in the centre midfield, i believe we have a player who can offer more to the team balance than Modric.

Henderson was worth £20m because Sunderland did not want to sell a prize asset on a long contract. £20m represented a great figure when maybe half that may have been a fair sum.

Modric is our prize asset. We sepnt £16.5m on him when he was little-boy-nobody. Now he is premeir league hardened, CL experienced, one of the best CM in the land, would walk into every team in the EPL and hit the ground running and is thus worth a decent sum. Maybe around £30m.

He is 1 yr into a 6 yr deal and we don't want to sell, or have to sell, so that makes him a lot more expensive.

Basic principles of a free market. We own him, anyone who wants to buy him pays our price.

2 other things....

We start start selling top players, then the others will start to question our ambition.....we have told Bale that we will be adding and instead we sell our best CM...what does that say to him, other clubs and the fans??..... That we have no ambition and every player has a price!

Secondly, who do we replace Modric with?? This aint championship manager, attracting top players to a non-CL club on decent but not massive wages normally means we have to take a punt on someone and hope they come good (like half our team)`.

We can sell the likes of Hutton, O'Hara, Keane, Bentley, GDS, Kranjcar, Palacios and raise somewhere between £35m and £40m. Thats enough to get a couple strikers, which, if we did, we would have to sell another striker, raising more money again.

Lets trim the deadwood before we start selling off prize assets!

If you think its just a case of selling Modric your being VERY naive about the situation

What message does it give that when a so called bigger club comes calling me will just sell our players? I guess you would be happy if we sell Bale and Sandro as long as we get a good price?

Who exactly can WE bring in to replace Modric for £25-30 million?! Give me one name

If we sell Modric there would be no point bringing any players in, we are trying to build, no sell our best player then bring in some cheap weaker replacement

Im sick of all this, Modric will not be sold this summer, if he is where would that place Levy? He would have to go into hiding and would make a total embarrassment out of himself

On a lighter note...just watching the England Under 21's embarrass themselves again, and what do you think would cost more...the England Under 21 starting 11...or the Barcelona starting 11
