First Post - LFC Problems

Hi There,

This is my first ever post. After watching the performance against Bolton i thought i would come on and share my views.

I like Kenny a lot and a think he is capable of doing a good job. However, i think a lot of people are either scared of saying it or refuse to believe the truth due to how the media portrayed Rafa Benitez but if i had the chance to swap Kenny for Rafa today then my answer would be yes. This does not mean i dislike Kenny and in a perfect scenario i think he would be great to have as an Assistant Manager or as a coach - doing the same job as what Sammy Lee did but better. Kenny's ability is motivating players and showing them what it means to play for LFC, he is a perfect coach. But when it comes to the management side, tactical decisions, formations and transfer market etc Rafa will get my vote. This also does not mean that i think Rafa is some kind of messiah but that it is obvious he has the club in his heart and always will and as far as managerial ability is concerned we can not do any better than him.

Now onto the playing side and our problems there. The obvious problems are there for all to see such as we are missing Suarez and Lucas big time! Carroll is hopeless and we have never replaced Alonso. Alonso however was that good i dont think he is replacable its just that Adam does not have anywhere near the ability that Alonso has.

My main point though is our attacking play and the reason we lack goals. When i look at Liverpools best 11 compared to that of the other top teams there is always one big difference for me and that is the pace and skill from either side of the field.

Manchester United have Nani on one side and Valencia on the other.
Tottenham have Bale on one side and Lennon on the other.
Arsenal can have Walcott on one side and Oxlade Chamberlain on the other and Man City just have a whole host of players to choose from so thats a different story.

These players though are all exciting players compared to Liverpool who have Downing on one side and you might as well say nobody on the other as it could be Kuyt, Henderson, Shelvey, Gerrard, Maxi etc in fact Kenny has tried them all and none of them have worked.

Why Kenny and Comolli cant see this is such an obvious problem i am not sure. If we cant attract the big name players who play in these positions then fine we have to start from the bottom and sign players such as Dyer/Sincair from Swansea or Hoilett from Blackburn. Players who can pick up the ball and run at players as quite frankly the difference in quality between Downing and Maxi compared to the list of players above is HUGE!

Spâdes is a banned word which I really don't understand. Was trying to talk about the card game hearts the other and couldn't talk about the queen of spâdes because we're so overly PC!!!

I think we should have Bellamy and Suarez starting as many games as possible up front and when they've tired the defenders out, chuck Carroll on and bung endless balls into the box for him to fight. I think that would work.

Hearts is a boss game, I play it online, in work, just like spending most of my day on here!

I really want to play hearts but it's not on the PCs here unsurprisingly.

My god I do not want to be here today.

Apparently the owners are traveling to Liverpool today from USA..
Maybe to give Kenny another £50m... Hopefully the king won't spend it on another Andy Carroll

Is that true? Good news it if is. That's probably for transfer discussions.

Video conferencing has been around for over a decade so if they needed to discuss transfer funds, then you would have thought it would have been done before the beginning of the month. Maybe they want to see the whites of Kenny's eyes to see if they can trust him with more money or if he is gonna waste it by putting in a cheeky £40M bid for Titus Shambles!

To be completely fair have we at any point seen Suarez, Carroll, Gerrard and Lucas in the same team?

I think Carroll was a knee jerk buy, a mistake, not because he's a bad player, but because if he's not gonna play alongside Suarez or Bellamy, then I can't work out what he's for. I don't however believe all the people dismissing him already. It took Lucas two years to be the player he became. Half the people on this thread were comparing him unfavourably to Anderson. Carroll's never worth £35m, but then I can't think of many players that are.

I really think Kenny's other mistake was selling Meireles. He's a better player than Henderson, has a ton of experience and chips in with goals. We could have really used him this season. I look at the team sometimes and I can't see where the goals are going to come from.

It's not all doom and gloom, but this week is really gonna define our season. I said on a post last week that I was least confident about the Bolton game. We always seem to play better in the big games or with our backs against the wall.

Lastly this is crunch time for Kenny. He's put himself on the line and he knows that if he gets two lacklustre displays on Weds and Saturday then he may as well pack his bags.

I think you're right about needing quality widemen! We need crosses in the box for Carroll to use. If we are insisting on playing a 4-4-2 which Kenny likes to do then I'd put Johnson right wing and Downing left wing. Kelly can come in at right back. Johnson is fast and can cross. Carroll up front with Bellamy for the time being and Gerrard and Henderson in the middle would do me fine. If the ball is coming in from the byline and we have Carrolls presence in the box they will start flying in. Pace is essential in this league which Johnson and Downing can provide at the moment.

Firstly, Rome was not built in a day and what Liverpool are crying out for is a John Aldridge. In the 80s neither Ray Houghton or Ronnie Whelan were natural wide-men, both were converted central midfielders, and Ronnie Whelan was a right footed footballer playing on the left.
Jordan Henderson like Ray Houghton before him is all energy and will run all day. He should be the natural successor to Dirk Kuyt in that respect. Back to the box finisher, I believe that both Carroll and Suarez will thrive playing alongside a hitman.
Suarez is the nearest thing to Peter Beardsley since Peter Beardsley. However Suarez has nobody to create chances for, and thats why a hitman in the Aldo mould is necessary. On the otherhand, Liverpool could have a variation with a speed-merchant ala Owen and Heskey with the Big man knocking flick-ons for his pacey side-kick. I reckon a pacey box finisher is what Liverpool need to get to the next level and thats title contenders.
