Five stars, agree with this 100%.
Kenny has strengths that Rafa doesn't in his man management skills. Rafa is a tactical genius (the best in my opinion) and a mix of the two would be a dream combination. Especially with Clarke in change of the defence.
Kenny is, as you say, a great coach but I don't think he has the tactical nous needed in the modern game. Tactics laid out recently (Stoke, Bolton, second half of the CC semi against City) have been throw backs to the Hodgson days.
The lack of action in the January transfer window has left me genuinely worrying about where our club is going. You point out the lack of a class winger and I agree. While we may not be able to sign the Agueros, Silvas of this world why not put in a bid for Scott Sinclair or Nathan Dyer? The lack of action tells me that it's a stubborn state of affairs.
How can Carroll still be at the club? He doesn't care at all and has been utterly crap.
Anyway good article OP, although you need to think of a name for yourself
Welcome to the board. I agree wholeheartedly.
Rafe is the best tactician in he world in my opinion. Kenny is a great motivator and man-manager. The two of them would be formidable to say the least. The problem is that Rafa would want a lot of control over transfers, which no doubt Kenny would want to be involved in. People may doubt Rafa's ability in the transfer market, but I don't. He didn't have much money to spend, and if he had the money he would have went for much better players (Aguero, Silva, Mata, Alves etc), instead of the players we actually got.
As for wingers, we seem to be linked with Milos Krasic on loan, who is exactly the type of player we need.
Ha yes i have put a name in for myself now.
A lot of people may now come on here and say stop with the Rafa following and move on and then you get some people listing the horrible results that we had under Rafa also. I do respect that but fact is that if you list all of rafas faults and all of his good times he would come out on top. We had some great times under Rafa and you just dont see those coming back at the moment.
As you say tactics wise we are starting to look clueless and the Andy Carroll saga is just getting worse. I think if it wasnt for Suarez this season we would be mid table which is why we are now playing like a mid table side with him out of the team.
Agreed
People keep calling for Downing ti play on the left with Carroll playing and that's exactly what happened around the 60th minute vs Bolton and what exactly did he repeatedly do? Receive the ball and pass it backwards. Did he supply Carroll with magnificent balls or even dribble past a player to get in a cross? No
On paper it looks mouth watering but in reality, doesn't work.
You just don't buy average and expect to turn them world class.
Ah good old Xabi, one of my favourite players of all time.
Socrates: I've been fighting that point today, Rafa was actually pretty good in the transfer market and his tactics are usually spot on. With an assitant in Kenny and first team coach in Steve Clarke, and the right backing from FSG I think Rafa would be perfect for us.
I can't see any transfers happening now.
I'd love Krasic and Isla but don't think either will happen.

Welcome to the board OP
Hope your blogging days here are filled with joy and good banter
Just out of interest mervin, how old are you?
I'll explain in a second.
Fred: The three of them would be great if a balance could be reached. I have no doubt that he would find us some great players with backing from FSG.
Isla would be a great singing, forgot about him. I think if we got Krasic, Isla and Honda we would be set until the summer at the least.
socrates,
Good point about rafa and transfers. I think if he wanted control i would give it to him and as you say he would find better players than what we have. I know Rafa did sign some bad players but i think he did realise this and got rid when he could. I for one was someone who said why is Rafa persisting with Lucas but now look how he has turned out!
Using 1 example where Rafa had to make do with money that he had was Pennant. At least he realised that that was the type of player we are crying out for all be it he didnt have much to spend. And quite frankly i believe even if we had pennant now he would do a hell of a lot better than our other right sided options!
Well I take back what I was going to say
The older posters on here prefer Dalglish because they remember when he WAS a top class manager. I prefer Benitez but I'm only 20 so never saw KD at his prime.
I just call a spade a spade and see a lack of tactical nous and a shambles in the transfer market.

Fred, I was yanking yr chain, I'm a lot older than 16 and you are very correct in your assumption!
alonsoxabi:
Lucas is a prime example of Rafa's genius, he took a young attacking midfielder from Brazil and gave him the tools to become a top defensive midfielder (which he now is). Rafa always knew what we needed, but just didn't have the funds to back it up, with Pennant being a good example.
Fred i totally agree there mate.
Im 22 so all i see is a lack of tactical nous. As i say i like Kenny and i think he shows the players on what it means to play for this club and the pride they should take in wearing the red shirt. But as far as tactics and transfer activity go its not good. Rafa and Kenny would be the perfect combination with Rafa as manager, question is whether Kenny would be happy with this. Rafa would be happy with it as im sure as he would have full control of transfers anyway, Kenny would just be there to motivate the players and give a helping hand (as said before like Sammy Lee but better!). Kenny has also stated before he would do anything to help this football club so cant see no reason why he wouldn't do that.
Other examples of signing a player on a cheap budget and him becoming decent off the top of my head:
Benayoun
Arbeloa
Riera
You know what you youngsters like Fred missed. The Souness era! My GOD, the man bought the most skillful of players. Does anyone remember Julian Dcks?
Ha ha, he was that garbage, this site won't even let me complete his name!
Fred, never, EVER, us the Arsenal diva on this board!
We had the Hodgson era. Wasn't that like the Sounness era on repeat?
How can anything be worse than us losing 3-1 at Blackburn and the manager saying "we were too attacking"?!
A quote from Wiki
The three years which followed were uneventful for Souness and relatively disastrous for Liverpool. There was little success on the field, with only a 2–0 victory in the 1992 FA Cup final over Second Division Sunderland, but poor tactics, ill-judged transfer dealings and poor man management brought one of the bleakest spells in the history of one of Europe's most successful clubs of all time.
