Those Bournemouth and city results could be the difference in top 4. We are 4 behind Arsenal in goal difference and would be sitting a little bit more comfortably if we had not had those ridiculous score lines.

You could pick any two games and make a similar argument . For example, taking just 1point from Wolves at home and Everton away.

Not quite the same point biggish. Obviously we’ve had some bad results which would have helped us had anyone bothered to turn up, hazard aside.
But the Bournemouth and city games we could have just shut up shop. 6-0 and 4-0 is unforgivable.

The wider truth is that you can’t reduce seasons down to isolated instances

Hmm although that can be true. There have been several instances down our history where that isn’t the case.
There’s always pivotal moments and games. Stevie ga slip being a massive one.
But my point is strictly referring to goal difference.
Strangely enough, gary Cahill had his faults but I wonder how we would have got on this year with him playing. Luiz has been so hit and miss, azpi has been poor, and the less said about alonso the better.

Can't see it, mentally and emotionally it almost looks like he can't cope with playing against Arsenal, he may be our player at the minute but Arsenal is still his club (the reverse of the Cech situation only Petr is more ruthless and can put emotions to one side while competing with us).
