Superb it isn't that significant. We have played 14 games without Kante (2 of which were against Grimsby and Forest and 0 games against the top 7 teams). 20 with him (9 of those were against top 7 teams).

The fact speak for themselves in my opinion. In 20 games where Kante has played we've won only 36.8% of them while in the 14 games where he hasn't played we've won 71.4% of those games. That's significant imo whichever way you paint it.

And of course you can draw meaningful samples from 34 games. But the two sample sizes are 14 and 20, not 34. The sample size is not 34 games.

And I am not disagreeing that Kante hasn't played well this year. I just disagree that that stat is evidence that he should be dropped.

As I have noted above, the same stat could be used as evidence for playing Alonso and Barkley significantly more as our win percentages are materially higher when they play than when they don't play.

Also I'm not just basing my opinion on the already damning stats, the fact is that Kante has been well below what we might expect of him this season, really quite poor in some games.

As for Barkley and Alonso what are our win and loss ratios when they have and haven't played and in how many games ?

Kante is having his worst season for us but I don't think he's been substantially worse than any of our other midfielders (or to the point where I would drop him for the foreseeable future). All of our midfielders have their flaws and have been up and down this season.

Nothing has changed my view that we will better off finding a way to maximise Kante in Lampard's system.

I only looked at the games Alonso has started but in those games our win percentage is 75% when he starts (12 games) and 41% when he doesn't (22 games).

For Barkley, our win percentage with him is 58% (12 games) and without him him is 43% (21 games). I'm discounting the Super Cup from both as he only played about 5 seconds.

Well as we've both agreed Alonso would probably have been our starting LB this season if he could effectively and consistently play as a LB in a back four. As things stand he specialises in a LWB position and we're not playing wingbacks much this season. Not at the moment anyway unless Lamps changes it again.

But again that stat says as much about the fact that we just don't have a consistent LB this season that can be relied on hence the manager chopping and changing it. Maybe we should revert to wingbacks so that Alonso can play.

Barkley (as poor as he can be at times) gives us at least some of the inventiveness and creativity from central attacking positions that we so clearly lack in this team. So it's not a huge surprise that we've won slightly more games with him than without. Imo it very much highlights our need for a conductor/number 10 type player to direct and dictate our attacking play.

As I said earlier I feel like this team is like an orchestra without a conductor. As good as Mount is and as useful as he'll be he isn't the type of player to knit play together and to put clever passes through to spilt defences.

Or, and hear me out on this, we don't sell our only world class player because of 6 months of patchy form.

And, I may be getting really extreme here, maybe in order to build a more balanced team/squad, we look to sell our worse players before our best.
