We're just signing City's academy, bit disappointing considering we got CL. Thought we'd look at higher level of quality but it's just more relatively unknowns we're linked with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem with succeeding moderately is it only encourages Clearlake to double down on their approach.
-------------------------------------------------
Yep.
We're owned by Dutch from Red Dead Redemption. Any gain (no matter how minor) will have them double down, every setback will have them triple down. Cos after all, "we have a plan" and all we need is that one big win to justify everything

I think it's unfair to call them speculative punts but I would still say this would be unprecedented and weird if it actually worked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Other teams have done incredibly expensive punting before but it usually comes with signing ready made stars to play around them (madrid and psg)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.
I'd go as far as saying that these owners are being proved right. Yes we do need a couple of new players to kick on but I think they are doing a really good job.
--------------------------------------------------------
This strategy is dumb & even if it ends up working out I wouldn't advise another club doing it, it doesn't make sense on a fundamental level. Real Madrid's current model is the way to do this if you're gunna do this.
But in Clearlake's defence, I will say it's very impressive how they manage to continously get things done. More often than not we get our targets, and that's something we couldn't say we did in the Abramovich era.

Yes, it is fine to be optimistic about the future, but to do do is purely speculative, just like our club's transfer policy.

Liverpool are about to drop £130m on Wirtz — a good player, no doubt. But is he better than Palmer? No, he’s not. The difference? Wirtz is seen as more “ready-made,” so the price is nearly 3x as much.
That’s exactly where our speculative strategy has worked. We took a chance on Palmer for £40m and he’s now one of the best attacking players in the league.
Now imagine doing that 11 times — that’s the model. Build a squad full of high-ceiling talent before they hit that ridiculous price tag.
We paid big for Caicedo and Enzo, sure — but look at them now. They’re becoming the players we paid for, and then some.
People on here act like we should just buy a full team of £100m “ready-made” players every summer. That’s not football — that’s fantasy. It’s not sustainable, not even for oil clubs.
Transfer prices are only rising, and clubs like Liverpool will do one big splash a year, then plug holes with squad fillers.
Chelsea? We’re looking at Delap (£30m), Gittens (£30m), Maignan (£15m) — three players that improve the squad, add depth, and grow with our core.
And as our young squad matures, all of a sudden we’re packed with £100m players we didn’t have to buy at £100m.
Yeah, it’s a slower road — but we’re building something that lasts.
The argument that we are now just speculating is also just silly, you are forgetting entirely that the players we bought 1 2 seasons ago are now established premier league players, a squad that won a trophy and finished 4th in the hardest league in the world and reached everyone's pre season targets.
At the moment the model IS working

No they don't. In fact one of the driving points as to why this model is stupid for us specfically (as well as in general) is because a huge influx of funds was unnecessary.
Whoever bought us in 2022 had the benefit of inheriting one of the most stable foundations a top club can have. The club was bleeding money sure (and that hasn't changed), but everything from a football prospective was already in place - young squad who'd just won the fkn Champions League, one of the best managers in the world, one of the best academies in the world, and a culture of winning both at boardroom level & on the ground. And, very significantly, an enormous amount of PSR wiggle room thanks to the nature of the sale. Clearlake saw this wonderful foundation that only required a restructuring on the branding side of things, and decided to change literaily everything!
No-one's saying lets buy a super team, which we technically could've with that 1.5B in combination with said foundation (so not fantasy in our case) but that's beside the point, all people want is for us to get our heads out of our @rses & stop needlessly limiting ourselves for the sake of this "idea", and what I personally would appreciate is for us to not revolutionize the squad every god damn season! e.g. if we're spending so much money that we have to buy a player we don't want in order to sell one of our best players (Felix/Gallagher), maybe STOP BUYING PLAYERS!
I said on a CMF article the other week that I can't deny this youth fixation is becoming a thing in the wider world of football & we're just the poster boy of it, but it's quite telling to me that 3 of the top 5 league winners this season haven't conformed to this fad yet - Liverpool, Napoli & Bayern - cos a balanced squad full of youth & experience is football's tried & trusted formula & that's never gunna change.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see no evidence of that. Opportunity cost for one reason and suddenly what, we are now playing spectacular football. The truth is we have gone backwards since Tuchel left. That is where we stand right now.
Yes, it is fine to be optimistic about the future, but to do do is purely speculative, just like our club's transfer policy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see it differently.

Milan have finally agreed a €18m deal with Chelsea for Mike Maignan. Between today and tomorrow, the details of a deal will be ironed out.
Barring any surprises, Mike Maignan will go to Chelsea and play in the Club World Cup.

Exactly, why do we have to deal in extremes when a balanced approach to recruitment is an option.
