I'm still backing surprise loan w/option to buy move for Endrick on deadline day.

It really feels like something we'd do

I'm thinking along the same lines but with Rodrygo

£52m for Simons is lower than what was being quoted before. I don’t get it; we were after him for a month and now that he’s available for a decent price, we don’t want him anymore. It doesn’t seem like we’re gonna get someone else either.

Did i hallucinate Fermin Lopez reports
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've heard he's the Spanish Mount. Haven't watched him play so can't really judge but doesn't fill me with a huge amount of confidence
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mount type of player isn't going to help us against stubborn low blocks. We need someone with elite creativity and ability to unlock defences. Or not and we just continue to struggle mindlessly against these kind of teams lol

I don’t get why we prioritised Garnacho over Simons.

If Simons goes on to have a much better season, it’s gonna be a bad look. Unless Alejandro can surprise everyone.

My other concern is I’m not sure Gittens or Garnacho are actually any better than Madueke. Both seem like signings based on potential rather than because they’re actually better than him today. But we already have Estevao for potential, so the focus should be on improving the team immediately, now that we’re in the CL.

Estevao will help this. Not really a creator per say but he will occupy defenders taking the heat off Palmer.

Combine this w/Enzo's ghost runs & Neto stretching the pitch with a good aerial threat now in Delap, all this should be good enough to bust poor low blocks.

Big move for Rogers still being touted but don't see it happening

Totally agree with all of that. I think what we're seeing here is the naivety still of this ownership. They're rookies when it comes to football and this just shows it quite glaringly.

I think the club actually has a pretty clear idea of what it wants, and it's fine if Simons doesn't fit that.

Also people should stop retrospectively dismissing Mount's achievements at Chelsea just because he left and injuries have derailed his career. His stats show he was once very effective in the final third - if we signed anyone at that level again I'd be thrilled.

Gittens and Garnacho have been bought for the LW, this has no impact on Madueke. Estevao is the Madueke replacement.

We prioritised Garnacho because we needed a LW as Gittens will take time to adapt by the looks of it. Simons is more of a no 10 and we have Palmer/João Pedro and Enzo who play there.

However, it does feel annoying that Simons waited for us all summer and we didn't bother making a bid. £52m seems like decent business given his talent but hey ho, you win some, you lose some.

Should add — club briefings were up to 9 attackers so will be very surprised if we finish the window with just seven. Either someone stays or we pivoted to other targets which again - completely fine with.

The point is if we were after Simons, what changed now that he is readily available

My wishful thinking theory is maybe Rogers and Jackson in some sort of swap.

Might be too optimistic - but I do expect that yes, we'll either sign someone else or someone's staying.

Wharton is really good, but we don't need another CM.

Interesting that it looks like we just walked away from the Simons deal. If Jackson still goes we do need another AM.

I know it's not popular opinion on here, but I do think Garnacho will turn out to be an excellent signing and will be our stating LW.

What did we actually have? In terms of solid information.

We had reports we were interested and had agreed terms with the player. Clubs do that with lots of players - so they're not embarrassed by the player if they opt to move for them and spend weeks haggling with the club.

And the media caught wind of our early-stage interest - which is fine. That's their job.

But we probably have interest and terms agreed with 5-6 players in that position probably right now as we speak.

And likely when we opt to go for a player, we then negotiate with the club and know the player coming isn't an issue. Especially with our long contracts and lower wages.

For whatever reason, either due to UEFA issues or because there's someone else, we didn't reach that stage with Simons.

Technically it's tapping up what I described above but thats actually seemingly how most these deals get done.

It would feel anticlimactic for Garnacho to be the only attacking signing after Pedro.

I think the lack of excitement is just because he’s so uncertain. Some think he has super high potential. I just see someone who could bring toxicity to the culture of the club and who has played terribly for a long time now. Not the kind of signing that feels ready to actually make us better and handle a tough CL group.
