Who cares about him? He's become a £50,000,000 nonentitie!
I'd probably prefer being a legend at a club, if it was the club I grew up with. However, if not, I'd prefer the Champions League.
I still think he's got a lot to do before he is seen as a great player for Chelsea. Personally I would rather be seen a a legend for one club other than sitting on the bench all the time and getting a trophy at the end of the season.
You have to play to really feel you deserve the trophy.
It was interesting to see Drogba run onto the pitch straight to Torres, the media would have us believe they hate each other...
I don’t get this 50 mill goal some people are saying. Before Torres scored Chelsea were already going through. Feel sorry for Ramires
Lobster - Yeah I know. Like it was worth the 50million to get to the final? They were already there!!!
I think there is too much to do, too much damage already done, for him to contemplate staying at Chelsea. One swallow does not a summer make is the quote I think. By anyone's standards, he has been an abject failure at Chelea. His form, his confidence, his speed, all gone. I would be very surprised if del Bosque is or was influenced by his performance - or lack of it, 16 minutes only - to change his mind and pick him for the Spanish squad. I would not be surprised if a loan deal was not worked out allowing him to return to Spain next season. My own views on him as a player, a man, a striker? Frankly, I couldn't give a toss. He doesn't and never again wil play for Liverpool Football Club. He isn't good enough any more. jimmyTheRed
The Torres goal killed them off. They were still going through but it's not like Barca haven't scored last minute winners against Chelsea before, is it!
Jimmy - Do you not think this will kick start his Chelsea career? He's still at a good age and though he doesn't have pace any more he always had an eye for goal and that won't have gone. I believe if he'd played for Liverpool this season he'd have scored a hat full...
He probably won't get in the Spain squad, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another season at Chelsea, especially if Drogba goes.
If it was my club i would want to be a legend, if it wasn't and i was in a foreign country the chance of winning things and the money would be the selling point
I think Torres has performed well since Villa Boas was disposed of.
Even in a foreign country I think I'd prefer to go down as a legend at a club and be adored by thousands if not millions then have trophies and be seen as an a bit of a flop....
ifarka - I do not care for your tone, now good day to you sir.
Lets look at the facts
for 18 months he has been woeful
last night he gave the ball away every time he touched it,
he only scored because Barca had every outfield player practically in Chelsea's box and Victor Valdes is one of the poorest keepers i have seen, ,, Valdes was also at fault for Chelsea's 1st goal
Verbal
This is totally irrelevent but if Carroll was running through from the halfway line would you confident? I'd still prefer Torres.
Bixen, no actually, I don't think it will kick-start his career. His injury in Feb 09 marked the sea change in his performance. That together with, I suspect, his own personality, not coming to terms with his environment at the time - he was clearly unhappy at LFC - and he has never regained his confidence. I am not being critical when I say he is temperamental, inasmuch that, unless all is perfect, he just doesnt perform tHe way he used to. I'll get shot for saying this but, my granny could have scored his goal last night. Yes, The Tart will leave Chelsea for China next season, a lot depends on who the next manager at Chelsea will be, but, if you were the new manager there, would you chance building a team around Torres? I wouldn't. jimmyTheRed
Torres: His objective when he moved, was to win Trophies and The Champions League as Priority.
He is in 2 Cup Finals..
One is the Champions League Final...
His decision to leave Liverpool would seem to be a good one....
Liverpool fans really overthink this. Forget the legendary status at Anfield, blah blah..... because he's already got legendary status at yr club. With the greats you've had in the past, he still remains one of your top three most prolific goalscorers of all time. Including the first man to reach 50 goals. You've been conquered.
He came to us because he saw no future for Liverpool in his life span as a professional (n he's not been wrong so far, correct me if i'm wrong). And as a Chelsea fan, i'll face facts, the only reason he's here is because Barca didn't fancy him.
As a life long Athletico fan, if i was Torres, i'd rather take my chances at winning big too. Otherwise looking back he'll have always regretted it if we proved more successful than Liverpool throughout his career. Likewise, if we manage to pull this off in the final, they'll always be a tiny corner of Gerrard's mind that'll eat away at him saying ..... 'i could've won them both, i could've won them both, i could've won them both'
Stringer - good point but his reputation as a world class player has been lost to achieve it, is that worth it? Maybe to him, don't know?
Jimmy
TP - Gerrard won't be bothered if Chelsea win the CL as he's already won it, it's the PL he wants.
My apologises, you're right, he'd already won the CL before our interest arose.
Torres has got great records at the club but I don't think he's got legendary status, people will always remember him with some bitterness.
Do you not think this will kick start his Chelsea career?
------------------
That gets said every time he scores a goal. He finished well yesterday but did you see how slow he looked. Thats defineitley not the same Torres we had a few years ago.
I think Torres is off whatever happens. Chelsea has been no good for him.
I think if Mourinho cam back to Chelsea he might want Torres to stay, he'd probably get the best out of him.
