It will be a struggle for West Ham. But we'll have cash to spend. And I'm confident we can be better than at least Reading, Southampton, Swansea and Norwich.
And we won't have our usual -6 points against Bolt on.

We were a lower league club, who got promoted and for 2 seasons, to consolidate, played the long ball. We then started moving up the table, buying better players and playing better football. We got labelled a 'long-ball' team by the media because they didnt like the fact that we were beating their precious southern teams. We had great success, 4 consecutive top 8 finishes, missing out on champions league only on goal difference, 2 european adventures and a cup final.

Meanwhile in the deluded world of West Spam, you were striving to play the 'West Spam' way, getting relegated and generally being rubbish instead of concentrating on how to actually win games.

I dislike fans who believe that their team has some sort of divine right to be in the top league just because of some fabled philosophy, that in reality has delivered very little. I personally loved our lable/ethos/definition, whatever you want to call it. It meant we were upsetting the big boys and getting results which is what its all about.

Therein lies the distinction. For Bolt on fans "getting results is what it's all about". Win at any cost.

"getting results is what it's all about"

-------

The American Dream.

Ever heard commentators drool over the likes of United, saying that 'the sign of a good team is when they can win playing badly'.

Surely getting results is what matters!?

Getting results is what its all about for every football fan! You are never going to hear of a Fergie team talk, say in a champions league final, where hes said 'Its ok lads, dont play to win, we arent really interested in the result of the game, just as long as the fans see that we are playing free flowing football, they wont mind'.

And therein lies the distinction between success and West Spam - Playing to fulfil a philosophy and not to win games.

I thought the whole concept of a league system is that you win matches to go up it.

When they start giving out extra points for free flowing beautiful football instead of scoring more goals than the other team then we should all embrace that sort of style rather than being snobbish about it.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that kind of the point? When you play Football you try to win, you don't go out and think oh we just lost 5-0 but at least we played nice football. It is a ridiculas statement, EVERY team including West Ham will go out and try to win at any cost in every single game.

Getting results is the priority. But it's not the sole consideration. It's not the be-all-and-end-all.
Occasionally playing badly and winning is not the same as doing it on a regular basis as part of a game plan.

Yes it is. Winning is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

Yes its nice to watch free flowing football, but if you try and do that against elite clubs, you will lose 99% of the time. There is no point in playing nice football, losing most games and getting relegated.

But if you are consistently winning by playing that way you are hardly going to change it. Getting results, for a football team, IS the sole consideration, it is the be-all-and-end-all. Fans will support their team no matter what and of course they want to be entertained, but they go to the games, first and foremost to see their team win. You never see a fan being disappointed with 3 points because they didnt score the goal on the back of 20 passes. They wont care how it goes in. Unless of course you are a West Spam fan apparently

You'll soon realise, myhammers, that Allardce will take a win, or even a draw, over a good performance.

And that is exactly the way a football team should think.

I can understand getting frustrated during a game if the team is just hoofing it up with no results, fair enough. But the moment that ball is scuffed onto a players shin, rebounds of anothers back, hits the post, bounces off the keepers head on to your strikers knee and over that white line into the goal, everything else is forgotten about and pure elation takes over. The fans go home happy with 3 points, joke about how it was lucky and whatnot, but they would take the same every week if it means winning games.

Isnt this what make the Prem so special? Teams playing the whole spectum of different styles? It would be a little boring a predictible if everyone played the same way. Long may in continue along with the Whammers being a yoyo club

In the heat of the moment and the excitement of it all, no one cares how a goal is scored. The cheer is just as loud.
It's only when you have had time to calm down and reflect do other considerations come into effect.

I'm sure if West Ham fans, owners etc over the years had not placed so much emphasis on proper football, we would have been more successful.
It's something Bolt on fans will never understand, just like how I don't believe in the philosophy of success at any cost.

Bic, thats essentially what La Liga is. Everyone plays the same with the same top 2 every year because they can afford the better players. Theres very little change in tactics and personally I find it boring.

myhammers, I dont think many fans will understand, not just us. But fair play to you if you are not interested in results, i find it hard to believe, but fair play nonetheless. But if by some incredible miracle you win the league next year, winning every game 1-0 by just lumping it, will you not be a little bit happy? And if that does happen I expect a full, sincere apology for ever doubting that that style of play can be successful.

Myhammers, your football has NEVER been anything great, every time I watch your team (even before Allardyce) it has been ugly, and boring to watch, you are probably one of the most deluded fans ever to come on this board ....

I think you have said your piece now, myhammers. We have tolerated you enough now.

Bog off and worry about your own club now.
