My local team is Dromore FC.
At 30 years old having never seriously played football at any level Im quite confident that I could play for them.
Needless to say Ill continue supporting Man Utd.
That's my point, if we get to the nitty gritty, a lot of the fans of your Villas, Boltons, Sunderlands, Wolves, Reading etc, all who commonly use this type of argument, we're likely all born to more local, smaller team. Yes they support a small team in the grand scheme of things, but conveniently still plumped for a relatively big, relatively historical team.....
Why do you care about what people call you? They're winding you up and you're biting, it's a free country support who you want.
Do you still follow Aldershot? or been to any of their games when you lived near them?
Just wondering
born in nottingham, but a lot of my mum's side of the family are utd fans, and my first ever game was a utd match, so thats why i support utd, dad is a notts county fan, and i get to see notts quite a bit during the season, usually notts on a saturday, utd on a sunday
Im a student im living in Nottingham, so i go to more Forest games than United games.
Apparently half of us are Surrey folks according to the rivals.
Do you still follow Aldershot? or been to any of their games when you lived near them?
-------
I 'follow' them because as I grew up, I did go to a lot of games. I travelled down for their league 2 play off season before last and used to go to the Chelsea reserves games as their stadium was Aldershots home stadium.
------
I'm not biting to wind ups, I'm used to them. I'm questioning the reason behind the more heated/serious takes on it.
Wolves fans seem to be a big one for this, actually had some heated clashes because they feel I've no 'right' to follow football.
It's a common thing that is flung about and I'm intrigued as to people's views.
Makes a change from 'your opinion on Nani' for the 1000th time, 'RVP', 'LALing' and many other funny, yet very not serious debates or discussions on this board
If you want to carry on discussing fantasy 11's, killing starting line up discussions or taking part in wummery, be my first pal.
I'm pi$$ed and bored whilst the Mrs watches X Factor so figured I'd get people's opinions on this
Trent but going to Sheffield in september.
Oh God. Is the X-Factor back?
I am an Indian and have followed United as far as my childhood memories carry me to. We are certainly the most supported club by far here and I look forward to the day when United will tour India although I fly many times to watch us at OT.

Me and a mate did eve tally start going every week almost as was the only team we could watch live, the stadium was decrepit and we could sneak in for free.
Played pool with Aaron McLean before he went to Peterborough, met Ranieri after a Chelsea reserve game, met Bosnich (n0b) Hasslebaink and various others when reserves where used to return first team players to fitness. Good times but I was a UTD fan by this point lol but did go most games for 4 years or so, attended the game where they were promoted to the conference, biggest party id probably ever seem
Before moving to Egypt for 4 years and totally losing touch with conference football looool
Yeah, I was born and brought up at the tip of the mainland near John O'Groats. My nearest professional team in Inverness which is over 100 miles away. So i don't have a local team as such.
But yeah when i was very little at 4 or 5 i remember watching United on TV and instantly liked them and now here we are.
This type of article has been done before and the over riding response was "who cares what people say", people dislike United because they are jealous, we all know this. People in Britain (in general) are very hypocritical, like you say, it's ok for someone who isn't from Brum but is from the west midlands to support Villa or Birmingham because they're "local" at the expense of their local club who just happen to be rubbish.I went to Uni with a lad from Nuneaton who supported Birmingham and described them as his local team
Also, this "i support them because they're my local team" line that people come out with is such bs, when you first get into football at 6-7 or whatever, you don't say to yourself, "i'm going to support this team because i'm from the area" children don't think that way, it's down to family and friends pushing them in the direction of a certain team but that reason doesn't sound better than the "coz that's where i'm from" line.

Where about's in Notts are you from btw, i'm West Bridgford myself
I personally think that the key part of the phrase is the "support" bit as opposed to the local team. To long as you genuinely support your team and stick by them, that's the most important thing.
i was born in notts (QMC) i live in ilkeston(if you know it) dad's arnold born and bred

I am good mates with two guys from India from Uni. One of them supports Arsenal and the Other supports every team that plays against United because "everybody in India supports United". This person also likes Barca one day then Real the next, its quite hilarious
arnold the town, his name isnt arnold
Bruceandpally. I know it's been done before and agree buddy, still, thanks for contributing, agree with your point.
Just sick of the fantasy XI, transfer talk, RVP, Nani and LALing articles lol. Not that their a bad thing but fancied getting opinions, hopefully from a range of fans be ause this is a topic I have to deal with weekly lol
its an interesting topic number7

Exactly, but this is where the hypocrisy comes in, we've seen teams who struggle to attract fans in the football league who suddenly sell out every week once in the premier league, Stoke are a prime example of this as are City, they want the best of both worlds, glory supporters who play the local team card when it suits them.
Viva
Yes we have plenty of twonks here who support everyone who play against United just because we are by far the most supported club in the land. The bitterness from such folks is unbelievable.
