No justice for the 96

This also happened at qpr in a match with west ham, thousands of west ham fans crammed in but fortunately there was no fence so the fans at the front just ran onto the pitch. This was in 1988.
Fencing around a football pitch has always been a terrible idea.

RIP to the 96

Cheers Tomkins , I've been crushed a little on a few occasions but never like 1981

Is it right that there Hillsborough did not have a valid safety certificate in 1989?

posted on 15/9/12

Grizzly To the best of my knowledge you are correct , TBH i'm not sure if it was an oversight or someone doing a mate a favour

It was 1989 after all. I'm guessing safety wasn't high on the priority list at a lot of grounds. It happened at Hillsborough but could have happened anywhere. Unfortunately, it took the tragic events of that day to get the standards to change.

Rover .....Mate the place was a death trap because of the design , there were a number of incidents on Leppings Lane and the F.A had had numerous complaints about it , I'm asking why they ignored all the evidence and still allowed the game to be staged there after all there were a number of other grounds to use

=============

Yes, the certificate had expired 10 YEARS before that terrible day.

The FA never bothered to check.

Who knows? Bigger gates, TV revenue, backhanders to help out a mate who worked for Wednesday?

I think the FA has more to answer for than simply saying sorry.

Did anyone see Adrian Bevington (Head of FA communications) on the Footballers Football Show on Sky? He apologised for the FA’s ‘involvement’ but when he was pushed on what exactly the FA were apologising for, you could clearly see he didn’t have a clue.

Sir Robert thanks for that

I didnt know that it was that far out of date and only adds to my belief that the F.A have to be brought to justice

Rover Sorry missed that but it doesnt surprise me in the least

10 years out of date?! It just gets worse.

There are so many people at serious fault here.

The F.A. should never have allowed a game to take place at a ground with a recent history of potential crush problems, nor should they have allowed a game to take place at a ground without a valid safety certificate.

The Sheffield Council for allowing their venue to be used, even though it had no valid safety certificate.

The Police for their incompetence in marshalling the crowd.

Whoever decided to open the gate.

Whoever stopped the ambulances that were waiting outside from going in to the ground.

--------------------------------------------

That's before you even think of the cover-up, lies and deceit that followed.

I believe the only people that made complaints about the safety in the ground were the fire brigade and even they still let it go ahead.

There were many, many opportunities to prevent hillsborough, Sheffield county council, sheffield wednesday football club, south yorkshire police, south yorkshire fire and amublance service and the FA all could have done something about it.

But the FA did kind of do something about it, they put off the tragedy for 7 years (just enough time for most people to forget the 1981 incident) and then allowed the match to go ahead despite the ground not having changed sufficiently to improve it's safety standards and similar occurring twice in the preceeding 2 years.

THEY ARE ALL CULPABLE.

I wrote to Wednesday and a good few of the guys I went with also wrote to the Police , Spurs and Wednesday , It's 31 years ago now but to the best of my memory the only replies we got were curt notes from the Sheffield Police thanking us for bringing it to their attention and saying it was being looked into ...Never heard another word from them

Deff agree about 2 of those teams but I cannot have a go at Pool at the moment . I feel so much for them at the moment and every time I think about 1989 it sends a cold shiver up my back because it could have been me

how you?

We were in the same stand as the events which befell the Pool fans 8 years later , mate I've never been so scared in any situation at a match , I was trapped in the narrow part of the "funnel" that I talked about there was so much pressure coming from behind me and I saw a number of my own fans hurt and taken away by stretchers .......Wengers I wouldn't wish that on any person
