I'd want someone who is "Scotland Minded"

No but seriously "arry Rednap.........

If for no other reason than to see wee Alec Salmond's face with an Englishman in charge of the national team.

It has to be Strachan.

Smith had his chance but gave it up to manage the Gers. As was his right at the time. The SFA could have tied him down to a long term contract and missed their chance.

Strachan lost out to Smith when both were interviewed so it follows he should get the job now. Joe Jordan as his assistant would be a great combo.

Any of the favourites mentioned will inevitably result in the same situation within 3 years.

When you have had numerous different managers try numerous different approaches, then maybe something is wrong with the ingredients, rather than the chef.

We should be looking at a 20 year plan, to involve all clubs, schools etc all the way up, to get to a stage that Scotland are not the "lucky to be there" names, but rather the "strange if they're no there".

To do that takes more than just having the same blazers appoint yet another manager who happens to be unemployed.

I have said before, I would rather not have a manager, but rather a figurehead who is the head of ALL football in Scotland, and have a full time head coach for the national team.

Having a manager swanning around on huge wages, and massive expenses is pretty pointless. You need a coaching team to work with the players WHEN you have them, and a scouting network to look for the next guys.

However, all the above is pie in the sky.

We'll get Strachan or Coyle. or someone similar, and the yawnfest will continue.

Mibbe they could steal more money off of us to fund this "Scottish footballing revolution",'bout the only way they could afford it

DC1, what "numerous approaches?
Every manager of Scotland for the last 15-20 years has parked the bus. This has been the "ONLY" approach.
Maybe get a guy in ASAP and without pressure to qualify he could try some fresh ideas. Like maybe attacking teams?

I don't care.

Levein is gone

Who ever it is will be a breath of fresh air.

What about Neil the Lurgan Lion surely the naturale choice.

What a terrible decision.

They should have kept him on. He was doing a fantastic job, under difficult conditions.

crappy players is the problem

10 managers in 12 years it matters not

international football in this country is dead

we are a back water because of the lack of quality players, and that will never change

Back in the fifties, the team was selected by the SFA themselves with, what we would call a 'coach' (John Brown? Archie Knox?) nowadays, running the training sessions.

Wouldn't that be a novelty once more? Certainly couldn't be any worse than what the Tartan Army have been subjected to over the past 12 years.

And if it doesn't work out, at least another good reason to force the issue of getting something, anything, done about the state of Scottish football these days.
