I don't really mind where we finish this season and ill still back Rodgers.

Tbh i'd take top 10.
It may not be good but i trust Rodgers to lead us up the table.

I like AVB too but his stubborness is going to cost him his job.

Rodgers actually said "We finished eighth last year. If we can improve on that, it'll be fantastic for us''

I agree with him that an improvement on 8th should be the target.

I think this is achievable, but only if we add at least one first team forward player in January.

If we don't sign anyone in January, realistically we are looking at 8-10th which would be acceptable for one season, but would expect improvement next season (assuming transfer market backing).

We know we are not likely to compete for the CL this season, which is a shame because 4th place could be a low points target this season.

You have recently needed between 68-72 points to finish 4th.

This season it could be more like 62.

I've said all along that I'll be happy with a top half finish. That hasn't changed.

Given that half of our first team were in our reserves/youth set up last year, I think finishing 7th or 8th would be acceptable. Anything lower is not acceptable in my view. I just want us to keep within a reasonable distance of the top 6 until january when we can improve the squad. If he buys right we can push on after christmas.

I said at the beginning of the season that I wanted progress on last season's finish. Kenny failed to do that in the season previous and was sacked.

I'm beginning to become a little annoyed with our system of passing it with no penetration but perhaps that's more down to not having many penetrative players and not the system, so hopefully January sees a few players come in, in attack.

Rodgers for me will be judged next season, he has brought in only two players from one transfer window. I think he needs, January and the summer in which to bring in 6-7 players at least to then be judged in the 13/14 season. At the moment this team has only Joe Allen in it, whilst some of our better players (Reina, Kelly, Johnson, Lucas) have been injured for periods and again limited Rodgers in his ideal selection.

I think 6th, 7th, 8th is about where we are until we bolster the squad and starting eleven.

It is a bit of a nightmare job really. Yes, there are some good players, but there are also your Cole's, Downing's and Hendo's who don't cut the mustard but still can't be shifted or comand a decent price tag to further strengthen.

Give our current position i would to be happy for us to to be top half in January and then push on for top 7 of higher by the end of the season

Current position just isn't good enough.

Top 6 should be the minimum target. Anything less and it's been a failure again.

I say top 6 should be our realistic aim. With no disrespect, two teams that are currently up there, WBA & WHU will probably drop down at some stage (famous last words I know!) We're not too far off now, and with a little tweaking and some investment, I see no reason why we shouldn't finish top 6. Saying that, I will not be ranting if we finish lower, so long as we keep showing progress....

BAT had it right, 2 wins from 11 is poor however everyone can see that we are defo moving in the right direction.

Personally, i see no reason why a team with:

Reina
Agger
Skrtel
Johnson
Gerrard
Suarez
Sterling
Lucas

cant be competing for a top 4 spot. The competition consist of:

Spurs
Arsenal
Newcastle
Everton...meh,we shall see..

Sorry, but none of those 4 have that many better players than LFC; for a Bale you can have Suarez, for a Lennon you can have Sterling, you get the idea; none of the 4 are way in front of any other, hence why we should be going for 4th.

Everton will fall away after xmas. Playing so badly over the last five games and still not getting beaten shows this.

Greatteams
========
Walcott / Huntelaar and Ba in January, we could have :

Reina,Johnson,Skrtel,Agger,Enrique,Gerrard,Allen,Lucas,Sterling,Huntelaar(?),Suarez

Bench: Downing, Jones, Hunts/Ba(?), Suso, Coates, Wisdom, Kelly, Borini, Hendo, Walcott(?)

Looks pretty strong to me.

Obviously the new signings you suggest might be a little bit of wishful thinking, but I have to agree with you in the main.
I keep hearing about the strength of the other teams squads, but it simply does not stand up to analysis.
A bench that consists of Dempsey, Parker, and Sigurdsson, is nothing to write home about, and likewise, Newcastle, and Everton dont boast anything that would make you worry in terms of squad strength.
Even though their squad doesn't compare to the ones they have had in recent years, for me Arsenal are still the team to beat in terms of a top 4 challenge.
Im afraid Rodgers comment regarding a top 8 finish being an acomplishment does not quite wash with me, as our wage bill is still right up their, we still have a number of top international players at the club, and if he does wish to attract any decent players into the club come January, promises of a top 8 finish, isn't going to inspire any player worth his salt, to come to Liverpool.

Exactly jlou....Liverpools squad does stand up to the 4TH position and below squads, i agree BR needs time but i DONT agree we cant compete for4th......WE DAMN WELL CAN AND SHOULD!!

8th would be a horrible disappointment

5th

I think we're in the same position as Spurs were a few years back right before they clicked into gear and marched up the table.

We've got a side that outplayed both Manchester clubs so I'm not buying the doom that the players aren't good enough. New manager, new players, new system only a quarter of the season gone. And other than the top3, the sides above us aren't anything special.

Out Played.....how many points do you get for that

We know feillaini......its wins that count.
