Good read. Tomkins isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he always makes some interesting points.
My own thoughts are that we have to give Rodger's a chance. He is right when he talks about the manager and FSG being relative rookie's. Mistakes have been made, the transfer window fiasco being the obvious one, but the biggest mistake they could make is not addressing our problems in the squad. Then Rodgers and the owners will be judged on the players they bring in and how well the team does.
We would become no better than the plastic flag wavers if we sack another manager. That would be madness. Kenny wasn't given a fair crack and I don't want to see BR going the same way. I'm confident for now he will be given that time, our fans aren't idiots (well some of them). Even if we finish 17th this season, I woukd probably still back him. Patience id frustrating, but it is required.
FSG need to step up though and help give him a chance.
I wonder if he is a manager that can attract class players to LFC?
I would rather secure the likes of KJH than Sturridge or Walcott in Jan cos we could pick up say Sturridge in summer and this side needs a few more experienced heads.
I haven't seen anything in Allen or Borini that aspires confidence.
Allen started well but has faded badly, he needs to start influencing games.There is a lack of balance in our midfield - Tomkins is right, Gerrard has to play further forward.
Borini hardly kicked a ball, so it's unfair to judge him.
Borini scored 6 in 9 under Rodgers in the prem and 9 in 24 for Roma.
What happens to players when we sign them?
I think we will know a lot more by the end of January as to where this project is headed. BR is a leader and I don't think he cares one jot about a perceived lack of experience.
However his signings so far have not contributed enough and that is how most managers are judged. Where is Assaidi? Why has Allen failed now he's been able to push forward more? Why did Borini look so poor before his injury? Why is he not picking Sahin?
The truth is that while Lambert was off buying Benteke for 7m we have yet again invested a fair amount in these players who collectively have scored less than Benteke.
BR has it all to do in January and the jury is still out on FSGs tenure as owners.
Suarez was our last good signing....!! I wrote a rant on GB article about this situation...
Borini scored those goals in the Championship in fact a number of our recent signings have played in the Championship recently...

MY honest opinion...
Players from Italy do not suit English football...
Players who are not even Italian but have played in Italy for a long spell in their career struggle in English football...
I can't actually think of one player who has came from Italy and done well in England but can name plenty of flops....
If our club had half a brain it would be looking in Spain for quality players with good value for money!!!! But it that would be to much like common sense...

We lose attacking/tech players left right and centre so we buy a non penatrating CM to go with our already over crowded midfield
Hendo was always gonna come good, there was no need for him and Borini the jury is out, he's more of a reserve standard at current IMO..

Letting Carroll go?? I never understood that!!
We should have signed 2 first team strikers, a CB and a winger! But we didnt, maybe that was a show of inexpereince?

The Liverpool transfer policy baffles everyone I just don't get how we can not buy more finished articles rather than potential all the time...
Yeah most struggle, its all about the strength of the Italian league at the time and atm they are quite strong IMO, but were weak for a good 10 years before!
You only have to look at our teams against theres at present and of course the national at current!
