Difficult to know what to say until you've seen him play.

McGugan to Fulham in jan according to the papers today. Not sure what to make of that. Not that fussed either way. Players have to go out for some to come in. Think a few more might go too. Dex, Camp and McGugan I'm guessing. Shame to see them go but you can't stop progress and you can't stop players going if they want too.

Morison to come in from Norwich, couple of Irish lads and a keeper. Maybe Gomes from spurs who we've apperantly been in for twice. Plus I'd say one or two more. I think Fawaz wants to work closer with the gaffer to get some players in.

Agree with most of what you've said there sutton, but Gomes from Spurs? Dear, God, no! He's awful. Makes far too many mistakes and is so inconsistent.

It annoys me when people say 'he's a good shot stopper' - but I bet you could stick Mrs. Sutton in between the sticks and she'd be a good shot stopper (with all due respect)

I don't think SO'D likes Dex so I can see him leaving; which is a shame as he really loves the club and I think would happily play out his career here. Camp I think will be on his way to Reading. A backward move imo as they're shipping goals and will go down and we're going in the other direction - so if he wants PL football he may as well stick with Forest for the foreseeable future.

Essay over.

Heard Dex could be part of a merry go round if Austin leaves Burnley for the Prem.

It would be a real shame to lose Dex, Camp and McGugan. Let's get rid of Derbyshire, McGoldrick, Tudgay, Findley, and Greening first as none of those will get 1st team football. If Camp wants to go to Reading to get relegated with McLeary, Gunter and Shorey then fair enough but hopefully we have a good replacement. Gomes is more than a shot stopper. He was a v good keeper at PSV but he has been prone to mistakes. He's definitely as good, probably better than Camp. If we sell Dex then why bring in Morrison from Norwich. I don't see how he fits in better with our style of play than Dex does. McGugan started the season well but if he's surplus than I suppose he goes. Use the money to buy a decent LB.

I'm sure we will, if someone wants them. That's the problem. Would you pay Findley what ever he's on at Forest if you we're a running a club? I wouldn't.

Camp, Dex and McGugan are out of contract and go for nothing in the summer. Camps turned one down and the other two haven't been offered one, or at least I think that's the case. So they've got to go. SoD is obviously not that bothered about keeping them.

I think Camp gives a large proportion of his salary to his Ex-Mrs, so I imagine if a Prem club were willing to offer him a big increase on his current salary, then he'd be tempted! I may have just heard the grapevine wrong though

Wouldn't be massively upset to see McGugan go, especially if we get a decent fee for him. But don't really want to see Dex go - but it's looking that way given the lack of contract talks going on. Saying that, he's replaceable, so as long as we get someone else in I can't see it upsetting the apple cart too much!?

I have no idea what he's on. Do you? But yes I agree that getting rid of them when they're potentially on high wages is tricky. Might have to take a hit and get rid.

Gomes isn't awful.

Delighted to see us targetting young up and coming talent from further a field. There's a serious lack of young talented wingers, especially left footed ones. Look at Tom Ince, one good season and now he's rumoured to be worth £6m to daft Liverpool who only recently sold him for £200k??? We need to spread our wings a little and go for young players from emerging areas as opposed to signing expensive premiership flops and injury prone reserves, wont name names!! By all accounts this Mclaughlin kid sounds very good and is rated very highly!

This derry lad is the kind of prospect i've been hoping forest to go after for awhile. Bring them in, a few cheap gambles and might find a rough gem or two, just glad their doing it with the winger slot because we've all then the beefy price put on decent wingers nowadays.

On camp, dex, and mcgoogle, id only really be sad to see dex go. Hes a strong and versatile target man and a top bloke with a top attitude to that. I'm certain with the right set up he'll cut it in the prem. Camp it'd be good to see him stay but hes been faffing us about and if he goes then be it. We can bring in a keeper hungry for the job.

Mcgoogle - no idea what people see in him. The all-too-rare magical goal doesn't make up for the arrogance and laziness for the other 89 minutes. Flog him off and lets get our money back

Interesting to see Reds adopting the NLN approach to management and team building. What ARE they like?

£200k is a bit steep for NLN.

Dex is definately worth a new contract. Its possible though that between the board and the mgmt team that a clear out of the strikers is on the agenda. Whatever happens I hope we dont wind up with half a dozen strikers all vying for 1 or 2 places. Strikers need regular games to breed confidence, for far too long we've chopped and changed and its resulted in us not having any prolific 20 goal a season strikers since the Hart era!

And all yhose players you loved = now everyone wants to get rid. (Except Dex above)

It's always a bit sad to lose squad members. I think we should only let them go if we have better replacements lined up, or they won't sign a new contract. I dont think Dex would take too much persuasion to sign another contract. He seems to be happy here, he is our best striker for playing as a lone striker imo, and who comes in if Sharp or Cox are unavailable?

Redf50y, dex has been saying for weeks hes willing to sign another contract. It looks to be purely on the management side not opening up talks with him.

The fact is, there arent many players who would wait a year recovering for the small amount of game time that hes got and still be happy. Strong squad member.

Another thing to bear in mind with these three players is the fact that they will certainly be able to negotiate a better deal for themselves if they move in the summer rather than in January.

I see that John Giudetti and Chris Wood are likely to be on the move. Don't know much about Giudetti; but at £1.5 million I think Wood is worth a punt

I can remover seeing a young lad we signed from cobh ramblers making his debut. £16k we paid.
So you never know!!

I think it's two lads from Derry, McLaughlin and Barry Macnamee too.

I'd be sad to see Dex go especially as one of the first choice strikers isn't actually our player yet. Chris Wood would be a great replacement though and I doubt either he or Dex want to be 2nd choice.

posted on 20/12/12

How does Chris Wood fit any better into the Forest system than Dex? I agree Wood is a good Championship striker but SOD wants Sharp and Cox upfront - plenty of movement and pace. Wood is a target man.

How often have you seen him? I'd no more call him a target man as I would Dex, he has presence and is a strong kid but tore us to bits when Millwall smashed us at home. He's got good movement and isn't slow.

I think we're better off when we have Dex plus one of the others as it gives us an extra dimension and think Wood would do that too. If we're after a Cox/Sharp-a-like then he's not the man, neither is Dex nor Morison of Norwich.

posted on 20/12/12

I've seen him several times - playing for West Brom and Birmingham. I was also at the Millwall game and completely agree that he tore us to pieces with his target man play. He's not a quick player, he just stood there and waited for Shittu to punt it up to him. He controlled the ball, turned and laid it off. I rate him in this division but he's definitely a target man and much more so than Dex. SOD seems to see Dex as 3rd choice because he doesn't have the movement of Sharp and Cox. Which is why it seems odd we'd go for him or Morrison.

He's no whizz kid but perhaps looks quicker as his touch is good. I wouldn't say e and Dex are a million miles apart and when he comes on for us we seem intent on using Dex's physical abilities more than anything else. I don't think Dex is particularly mobile so maybe that's why SOD thinks he can get a better replacement.
