As Huddersfield town still exist and in the 20's went on to build themselves a domestic legacy not dissimilar to ours I assume the merger didn't get further than the talks stage

What 'saved' Town at this time, and stopped the merger from going ahead was a rallying round of the townsfolk of Huddersfield to raise money and keep the club afloat.

Enough was raised to save the club and stop the merger and as such both clubs retained their original identities and have done ever since.

Herbert Chapman did not win 6 titles, he left Town after 2 titles were won and went to Arsenal...where he won 3. Towns' 3rd successive title was under the manager Cecil Potter, and then Jack Chaplin took over and took us to two 2nd places and 2 cup finals..

Not quite right about Herbert Chapman. He left Town to go to Arsenal after the first two of our titles. The three in a row was completed by Cecil Potter. Arsenal were runners up under Chapman that season.

Arsenal first won the title under Chapman in his 6th season with them1930/31 but were then runners up the following season. They did emulate (it's still to be bettered) Town's three in a row feat starting in 1932/33 but Chapman was only manager for the first two again due to his premature death you mention.

So a total of five titles but no three in a row

Tho' I missed the bit about Chapman popping his clogs and thus never actually winning 3 in a row with either club...

Also.....
..
& keep the club in the local area...the shares were £1 each, It might not seem much now, but would have been close on half a weeks wage for many at the time.

No way were we EVER going to be connected to L666s
