I couldn't keep up with the goals Isaac so thank you for your commentary. Was doing a bit of shopping and moving in and out of coverage, refreshing the BBC live page and editing the article when I could.

Got home, must admit Eoin Morgan has cheered me up a bit, needing 3 from the last ball to level the T20 series with India and launching it for 6 to stun the home crowd and stop India becoming number one in the world.

As for Wanderers. I can see a LOT of comings and goings in January. It can't come soon enough.

Well, WF, we certainly got our money's worth. A Christmas cracker of a game, especially for Posh. has come early.

D.F. on radio manchester said he was pleased the way we kept battling back ,on a very difficult pitch that suited posh more than us .and that he had never seen Zat Knight defend a ball like that before, and said they had worked very hard in training { a pity they did'nt work hard for the 1st half hour 1st half ---and the 1st 2mins in the 2nd half } OH and Garside must take full responability for the crap signings he sanctioned for Coyle and should be gone before monday so has to not cause anymore future problems just get rid of him Eddie ,the only thing he can be credited for is bringing Big Sam to the club and he made a mess of that in the end.He brought D.F.in when Jimmy / Sammy & Julian were doing a decent job ,so it did'nt need rushing into ,Not that D.F. wont do a good job ,but there was no need to rush in as quickly as he did, But the worst thing he has done , not sacking Owen Coyle after we were relegated, sanctioning the 2yr contract of Knight ,a 3yr contract for andrews .not replacing Robinson at left back ,and leaving us with 1 inexperienced goalkeeper when we had the likes of ali habsi who we sold to a small town team in wigan and gave away-- FREE-- a great servant in Jussi .Garside is the slide of BWFC .what a chairman.

We are all pretty gutted Thorney, at this performance from our team, who supposedly are meant to be one of the divisions leaders (according to pundits)

However, we will wish you well for the rest of the season - you deserve what you get in this league - and today, you got three points.

Merry christmas

Looking back over the comments, I'm seriously tired of the reactionary tripe (especially from some who aren't at the game!) you get not only on these boards, but also at matches. Seriously starting to not enjoy going to games because of some of the plebs I'm surrounded by (good word, given its current prominence).

People dismissing Freedman as useless already, although it's an inherited squad. While I don't necessarily agree with changing a winning formula, and he has changed teams around (quite a bit) after wins, he's obviously taking a look at everyone before January. We're all calling for him to make changes in Jan, but then people criticise when he changes teams so he can assess what he needs to do.

Slating him for leaving N'Gog out today is plain ridiculous.

Others slate him for being clueless because he doesn't do what they would. Which one of you has a professional coaching licence? How good a job did he do an a limited budget at Palace again?

We don't know if he'll do as good a job here, but let's give the guy a chance.

Was at the game today. Awful match. No idea how we scored 4. Conceding 5 was about right. Couple of unsavoury moments of note:

Firstly, fans being separated, after a moron repeatedly shouted "shout, Bogdan", before he then saved the following free-kick. Bogdan retaliated by shouting at said braying fan after this. Another fan then took exception to the idiot who had shouted, and they had to be separated. I don't know what the guy who shouted wanted - maybe hefan would have been happier if Boggers threw incomprehensible grunts at his defence, instead of organising his wall.

Secondly, the disgraceful booing of Tyrone Mears (by about 10-20 fans, I'd say), after their second. As the ball was whipped wide, he went out to meet it, before Knight cleared the cross against Chungy, and Gayle then volleyed in. Now, I'm not his biggest fan, but I think he was far from being our worst defender or even player today. He wasn't great, as the scoreline suggests, and I have indeed criticised him in the past, but it appears he's become somewhat of a scapegoat. Booing your own players really is awful and counterproductive, too. Further, it shows that these morons know nothing about football - it's clearly Mears' job to tuck in when in such a situation arises, and the winger's (Chungy) to close him down. As Lee was MIA, Mears did the closing, although it's not his job to be out there or to close him.

Seems the jeers of the those perennially discontented souls who sit in the ESL (who make the atmosphere at most home games pretty sour), and boo if we're not winning by half-time, have found their way into away games...

I wondered what that scuffle was about Dutty, was over to the right of it and saw things getting abit out of hand. Was pleased to see our own fans sort it out before the stewards had to get involved too much.

You're right about the booing of players and there was one idiot down my end who had to be told by the stewards to shut up or get out because of the constant hail of stick he was sending Sordell's way as he was warming up.

I have to disagree with you about Mears however, I have never rated him and today has done nothing to change that opinion. He was awful. As for Knight for every good block he put in, and there were a few, there were many more times when he was caught out of position or not paying attention.

I was chatting to a couple of our fans after the game (helped them get to the train station as they weren't sure of the way) and one of them made a good point about Knight and Ream. Tim seemed like a tidy player when we signed him and yet if he is being kept of the side by Knight, who is an accident waiting to happen every game, then either Ream is truly dire or he must have run over Dougie's dog first day of training!

Thank you Reebok, and a Merry Christmas (with a win on Boxing Day) to you and your fellow fans.

WF - I don't rate Mears either, but thought there were plenty worse today. And the second wasn't his fault. I thought Mears was poor today, but still the best of a bad bunch across the back - though Knight, Ricketts, and Warnock were all worse.

The Knight thing is a little perplexing, although Ream has been dreadful when he's started and tried his best to lose us the game at Hudd!

"on a very difficult pitch that suited posh more than us"

that was purely because we showed the better ball control on a wet pitch, and that's all it was, wet, but not cutting up. The team that played the better football won this day.

posted on 22/12/12

See I thought Warnock was alright, he slipped a couple of times on a very wet surface but Posh definitely created more coming down our righthand side that our left. It he best game though.

Mears' only redeeming feature today was the way he got forward in support however I would have prefered him to play abit further back and actually, you know, defend!

Can't be any worse than what we've got...

there were some truly awful individual performances today particularly knight whose day dreaming cost us the 1st 2 goals and lee who looked like he was playing in carpet slippers. we lost today basically because the players just did not fancy it one bit against a weaker team who was so much more up for it than us.the pitch was very wet but the ball ran true so there are no excuses there and it was same for both teams.the 3 who came on should be given a start v sheff wed.petrov was well up for it and afobe gave us a lot of energy down the right. changes for sheff wed alonso for warnock , afobe for butterfield, petrov for lee, and ngog or sordell for davies who is banned. tim ream is not an option he is worse than knight.just wish we had wheater, mills, holden and mavies to come in for boxing day.

Agree with the changes Benny.

Alonso for Warnock is the only option we have there unless we have Ream in the middle and move Ricketts to the left. However I'd rather have Alonso being as he's a natural left-footer.

Petrov should be starting every game he is fit, particularly with Sparky out injured so no discussion between him or Eagles in 'the hole'.

The place thats really up for grabs is up top. If Ngog is fit I'd expect him to come in. Afobe impressed me to day however so he is in contention as well. Sordell showed glimpses of his ability today and seems to have a good working relationship with Afobe so 442 could be an option as well.

However, Sordell is also clearly a little off the pace. Isaac Hunt made this point earlier, a fully fit Sordell could have had a goal today when the ball stopped dead on their line however the reaction time wasn't there. Could be that he'd be better served getting the last half hour against Wednesday to get his sharpness back bit by bit.

I also don't really understand all the stick that Andrews gets. Okay he isn't the flashiest player but today at least he was one of the only players in a white shirt actually willing to put foot on ball and look for a pass rather than just getting rid as quick as possible. Certainly one of our less bad players today even without the two penalties.

My team against Wednesday would be:

Bogdan
Riley
Knight
Ricketts
Alonso
Lee
Andrews
Spearing
Eagles
Petrov
Ngog/Afobe

Eagles getting forward in to the hole when in attack and dropping back to help the midfield when defending.

With Ngog or Afobe up top and Lee, Petrov and Eagles supporting we'll have alot of movement up front which is never a bad thing.

And one final comment whilst we are talking movement. Kevin Davies. Okay so he isn't the most mobile anymore and his physical presence isn't what it was. However based on today I do believe he still has a role to play but must be used wisely and not every game. He cut an isolated figure at times today getting little support and I'm fairly certain that frustration is what caused the challenge that got him booked. Once Afobe and Sordell came on though he was a different player adding so much more to the team. If we are to use him to full impact we need to make sure that we are setup to give him support from the likes of Afobe, Sordell and Eagles so that when we do knock a ball long and he wins it there a players around him. When we were camped down the Posh end during the second half I lost count of the amount of times Davies was involved in linking up play and giving people time to move in to space. His first touch with ball to feet is not as bad as people make out and it maybe that playing him in a slightly deeper role maybe an option.

Just a thought.

Every time Petrov has come on this season he has looked more up for it than I've ever seen him, particularly v Bristol.
Mears, Knight, Andrews, Davies are all either poor or complacent players who are playing purely because their is a lack of options (or in SKD's case because he simply cannot be dropped).

We need to sign at least one player from each of the positions CB, FB, CM and CF - which we can't afford to do - if we are to make any sort of late push for promotion

Pathetic again,this is now embarrassing,play offs my ar$e !.

posted on 23/12/12

The first job at hand is to admit that we are one of the poorest teams in the division....not a team that can be fixed with a tweak or two. Admit we are not promotion material and get to work on a total rebuild.
The Doog telling us we are only a few changes away from being good is straight out daft.
Majority of the squad is worthless and we don't have the finances to do much about it.
I'd play all the youngsters going forward ....forget about promotion...unload most of the high wage earners like SKD, Zat, Petrov among others.
Better to finish 18th with a refreshed 11 than finishing 18th with these donkeys. What diference does it make now?

i think its a long way back to the premier league now.we have the highest wage bill in the championship this will have to be addressed in the next 2 windows.let the dead wood walk.

on another note i must pass on my appreciation to the peterborough fans yesterday.it was a good friendly atmosphere in the peacock pub before the game the complete opposite to my experience at brighton.i wish them all the best for the rest of the season got a fighting chance now of staying up.

Poor day yesterday but I have belief in DF. He must have the time to unpick the mess he inherited. I think we all realise now how bad things were under Coyle. Too many overhyped signings. Too much overhyping about the youth in the squad. Reality hits hard.

Petrov, surely you wouldn't be implying yesterday was Coyle's fault?!!?

Move on man.
