At least we're in the hat.
deserved to win that one..2 great chances at 1-0 and both blown..
full leicester city side for 35 minutes of the game, we matched em and took them on..
sratch town starting line up...did very well, competed and tried to play forward all the time..
one bit of ball watching cost us , but it was the only error in the game..
waghorn chases hunt for 40 yards and clatters two feet straight through him from behind, no booking..
novak chases leicester player for 10 yards and trips him, booking?????
no booking for the trip in the box on hunt???
too many leicester players falling over for my liking, very dissapointing with an english manager in charge..
good performance in a scrappy game...
shmeicel made a great reaction save but cant take a cross or physically impose himself at all...another young keeper who is good at diving and camera saves...
young sinnott wasnt overawed and did some nice stuff, wasnt content to just pass the ball off when he got it..
much more fight today...norwood bit more like his early season form..
forget any sh-t from leicester fans their team wanted to win but as i said before in this league, there isnt much difference between any of the teams if the effort and commitment is high..
wonder who wood will move to at the end of this season, he wont stay at leicester, promotion or not...
Lilis cried in the after match interview on radio Leeds. what a guy.
Don't give him the job though!
12 shots to their 6
5 on target to their 2
7 corners to their 2
those are the stats from a much improved Town performance. More composure on the ball, midfield bossed the central areas...some great flowing moves. It took Mark Lillis 48 hours to sort that out, what took Grayson 12 games and still didn't ever get a performance like that.
The only down side is we dropped deep at the end, and we wasted some incredible chances, we should have won the game.
At times we Leicester running round like headless chickens...
Interesting Town warmed up at the south end, and attacked that end in the 2nd half...and it worked ! The atmosphere was good, with Town fans in great voice...fantastic value for £10...more so for a fiver..
That is more like Town from early season...
Thought we had more than 51% possession...just a shame we fell asleep after the substitution was made...our only error...
Jordan Sinnott looked very composed, and hard working...Arfield a bit hit and miss, and maybe Novak and vaughan should have done better with the chances they had...close up chances too...
Not bothered about the result, more the general performance, and a reasonable turnout with 12,000 there...
said it a few weeks ago..watched a poor wendies team(but loads of effort and commitment ) beat hull easily...
the "better" players in this league cant cope when pressed hard, thats why they are in this league...it then becomes a game of hard work and pressure and the playing field becomes level...
in all the "open" periods of play today we looked as good and for most of it better than leicester...
play the ball forward near vaughan/novak and they won their fair share.. suggest they start on wednesday...
we didnt score in open play but we did win the ball further up the pitch thereby seriously cutting down the attacking possesion that they had..its the place to start when things are tough.. we cant bring in new defenders so best start stopping them needing to defend as much???
To be honest 38, I was disappointed with Novak and vaughan, missed some great chances which would have won us the game...a header from Novak 5 yards out, and then Vaughan who put wide from 6 yards...in the first half Novak fluffed 3 forward runs....
If we'd had Wood and Nugent up top, we'd have won comfortably...
Thought Town just calmed down a bit, were more patient, keeping possession more...everyone seemed to help out a team mate, and the inter passing was much improved.
A good start.
Having said all the nice things about today, you do know we are as good as out of the cup now don't you? Plus it's been a bad day for us in the championship today all the teams below had good days.
loui..
we seem to have been playing the last 2 months as though we thought "never mind there are wose teams than us"..
time to change that thinking.. others are picking up points..
im much happier going to leicester with a new approach..
they may have won 6-1 at home but they really did impress at ours earlier in the season.. today was our best performance against them by a mile...
i dont think either side wanted another game...
See you at the King Power, you know whats coming, yes you do...
I think today was just about seeing the first glimmers of improvement, that we could take into our final league games and survive. If we'd got another drubbing today, and put in yet another lack luster performance...I'd have been very worried.
What I have seen, is the players can play, and the early season stuff wasn't a fluke...so we can compete and we can survive...that for me is reassuring...the first good news in a long time.
More to be done, but the first step has been taken...now for Palace on Wednesday, another £10 game gesture by the club...a win in that one would lift everybodies spirits
Yup, I enjoyed that,, Good atmos up in the river upper south,, Good hard working performance by Town,,,, They gave 100%,,,,,,, Novak worked his sox off and recevieved a standing ovation,, Had a few chances that he fluffed, But bagged our pen that should never have been,, Hunt did one,, Its cheating,,But its not quite that as it is fo us,, Gamesmanship,, Taking advantage, Whatever,,, Went down and bit the dust for the cause,,,,Woods and Novak,, The only difference between the sides today.
Huddersfield played very much better today, but you really need to take off those rose-coloured spectacles, 38.....
Lillis looked smart suited and booted,,, Adkins was supposedly seen ? pinch of salt,,,,,,,, Young Sinnot did well,, great first impression on me,,, Nugent and Woods swung the game back their way,,,,, Without those two we more than matched a good Leicester 11 with grit and determination,, Something has gone wrong in training,, Clayton has lost that bit of zip,, Arfield used to have a great engine (looks porkier than he did),, Ward !!! Scannell ?,,,,, Lots of injuries, Hamstrings, shy t at set pieces, etc etc,,,,, Nice to see that in the first 24 hours of being in charge Lillypad sorted the lads out with a few drills on quick throws as we actually did try some,,,,,,,, I liked the bit of a diamond we had a go at when we could ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Lets just get Adkins sorted for next week and kick on
Seems the leicester fans can only be gracious before the game...and presumably when they win. They turned up in their numbers today like plebians in the Colluseum, salivating for the blood of a wounded opponent.
the fact that we more than matched them, and quietened the baying masses fails to bring any plaudits.
that's pretty ungracious, especially when considering how we welcomed them to our home.
by the time we meet again, we'll know the 5th round opponents, but more importantly, town will be right back on track..emulating earlier season form...and we'll take great pleasure in turning them over at the King Prawn stadium in two weeks time.
I'll have mine with flied lice
No great mystery as to why we had more of the ball today, we picked more midfield players and had 2 working hard upfront.
You have to be a very good team to play with 2 wingers and Beckford upfront, you simply don't have the bodies around the action areas. Scannell looked dangerous going forward but it wasn't a coincidence we got caught short on the left defensively when he came on.
astute point boothy...i've never been an advocate of 2 wide midfielders/wingers leaving just 2 in the middle
a fully functional diamond formation , as we saw at carlisle a few seasons back, can be a potent force..
Arfield had his best game this season I think and woods was solid at lb. Sinnott looks promising, good to see youth been given a go. Scannell was lively when he came on. Norwood was better. Novak and Vaughan need finishing training but should start ahead of beckford on weds. Need a new winger and some belief and confidence and we'll be fine.
ball out wide and a cut back...defenders in the middle getting further back than needed whilst ball watching..enormous centre forward holds and mooches up to the edge of the box, alone, to pop the cut back in..
always say, defending is not a question of how near to your own goal you are.. Peter and others need to remember, pick up you man and stick with him, you know the ball is coming in, forget it and get shirt tight or even just get in his way????
btw, dont think anyone would ever say i had rose tinted speccs about town.. never...
simple fact is they had more of their "1st eleven" on the pitch at some point than we did.. pearson probably wont make that mistake again.. i suspect if the draw gives them/us a big one in the next round, the leicester owners will tell him who to "pick"...
If we get decent results against palace and derby, does lillis get the job?
No! Most teams push on with a new manager, yet 3, 4 weeks down the line we will be back to square one. Adkins please.
38years, take those rosé tinted specs off.
A draw was a fair result. If your lot had won it I also don't think to many city fans would have complained. But you do make some strange points.
1) regarding kasper and his diving for cameras? Seriously...the bloke makes top saves week in week out, probably has the best feet for a GK in the division, commands his box very well and works with his defense...the most amount of clean sheets in the league testifys this.
2) full lcfc side for 35 mins...no. Nugent and wood came on with exactly 28 mins to go. No Knockeart (4 goals against u this season), no James. Wellens Playin his firs game for us since April.
3) regarding challenges, your centre mid went straight throug Andy king yet no card was given, yet waghorns and norwoods weren't as bad yet both should have been booked.
4) players falling over to easy under a English manager? What a silly silly silly statement. Players from both sides put in good hard challenges and I didn't see any one from EITHER side falling over to easy!
Jeez, what's with all the fuss about Leicester fans being ungracious?
If it's about the Simon Grayson chant, surely that wasn't unexpected? He's well regarded around Leicester as an ex-player for the club, although granted his recent performances suggest why we wouldn't want him as a manager.
As for the game, thought you guys were the better side, particularly first half. We seemed to have confusion over our formation and weren't that aware of the game - an awful lot of ball watching from us gave you constant opportunities to counter, which you took advantage of. The pace of Dyer and De Laet got us out of trouble several times. Neither side played good football, but yours did show a lot more heart and chased us down. Keep playing like that and you'll be in no danger of relegation.
However, you should know that there were several players out there being given a chance today. All three of the guys we substituted (Wellens, Vardy and Waghorn) were very disappointing and can't have done themselves any favours today. The rest are going to have to show a lot more sharpness in the replay if we want to go through.
So yes, you guys deserved the victory on balance of play. We've had plenty of them in the league this season that have resulted in less than 3 points so I can appreciate the frustration. But that's football I guess. See you all in a week or two.
