I Have sympathy for the bloke - it may appear self inflicted, but i doubt anyone would select his particular route to their coffin if given a choice.
Although It's empathy more than sympathy for me I think
I feel sorry for him its obvious that he didn't know what to do after his career finished.
IMO if he was in his prime know he wouldn't have gotten away with half the stuff he did back then.
He would have been better looked after by the Club he represented.
IMO the greatest English player ever. Gazza = Legend stat.

People say money does not buy you everything well it means you do not have to worry about paying the bills, it also means you can pay for better care.
------------------------------
True about the bills but better 'care' I would disagree with. I have direct experience working with people with addiction problems - the hangers-on to the rich are a major problem, as are the places that 'treat' them, charging upwards of a grand a day, when they are just as helpless if they're penniless and destitute.
People can mock Amy Winehouse if they like (not saying you are) just because she was rich and famous, but she (like Jackson) would probably still be alive imo if they weren't rich and surrounded by people with ulterior motives.
I'm not saying that they'd be 'well' but not necessarily dead. While you're still alive at leas you have a chance in life to make things better. And I have no doubt at all that Gazza (whatever his demons) - and just like Amy - would rather be alive and actually getting better, rather than dead.
Sometimes death seems like the best option when you are in such a dark place. Again, look at Gary Speed and tell me in all honestly that you 'could not care less'.
Look like - sorry mate, also meant to say so sorry about your mum
Full disclosure: I have PTSD from having someone die in my arms. No amount of money could change what happened to them.
In short: life can really eff you up, no matter fame, riches, anything else (and as I've said, I think money and fame can actually make things worse in some ways). If you don't understand that then fair enough, and lucky you.

maybe i am missing something here people --
but when you are a world class player as PG was and had the mental agility and speed of thought to play at that level and was fitter and stronger than the average guy in the street exactly what " demons " can turn you into an alcoholic that cant be overcome with discipline and treatment if you have the motivation to see it thru ?
---------- can anybody enlighten me ?

Martial IMO he didn't know what to do when the ride was over , also hanging out with Bell Ends like Chris Evans and Danny Baker probably didn't help.

Martial - just as an example (I am NOT saying this what happened to Paul). Imagine you were sexually abused as a child before you even knew what 'right' and 'wrong' was.
Wouldn't that eff you up for life?! No matter fame, money, or anything else (in fact wouldn't those things very probably make it all worse?)

sorry to hear about your condition -- seriously i am -
vitamins, nutrients and diet are something that i really understand and could maybe help you with your condition if you are interested -
for example something simple as the nutrient 5htp will feed the brain with more serotonin which in turn will greatly help depression -
----- seriously if you want any more help reply on this thread -

suprised to hear that 5htp has side effects as it is only an amino acid -- like anything else i suppose if you take it to excess it will do something unpleasant to the body -
however in moderation it has proven to be effective and harmless in treating depression -
glad to hear you have your problem under control -- if you are taking pharmaceutical drugs to control it have you considered the long term implications of taking them ?
