And I haven't said that a new manager wouldnt do better. I said that the players staying no matter who comes in. Or do you think that Auba would score every single chance he get under a new manager out of a sudden?
----------
I've shown you yesterday on this same thread, Auba's output since Arteta took charge. So based on those stats alone, I'd say he'll score more goals under the right manager/tactics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have said before Auba even joined Arsenal that he was always like that. If he would have scored all the goals that were provided for him at Dortmund he would have get the Ballon d'dor.

I still rate our back 5 highly, but we are just so poor in the midfield that we concede and invite pressure on so there's only so much they can do.

When did we last play well, consistently? 2015?

Ødegaard: "I think it is [a mindset problem]. When you're leading 1-0 you get afraid to lose the win and in my opinion that's what we did wrong today. You go for the second goal and that was the intention, but we didn't manage to do that on the pitch." #AFC

It shows what I am saying. No one told them to sit back when we lead games at United and Everton.

Might as well not have a manager at all then

I wouldnt go so far but if you think that a new manager would turn this mess around and bring us top 4 you are wrong.

Why? It happens all the time that underperforming sides become much better when the right manager is found.

Our own manager Wenger then guys now like Klopp and Simeone etc etc. Then you have less extreme cases where managers progress clubs but don't necessarily win titles. Or it's not super long term (10 years with same manager) but that rarely exists in football generally

Maybe I misunderstood your question?

I was talking about recent manager changes. Wenger was over 20 years ago and an absolute gem.

It's not really possible to be both recent and long term, also doesn't seem to exist very often regardless. Clubs tend to cycle through managers every few years while remaining quite successful.

You have guys like; Zidane, Guardiola, Tuchel, Pochettino, Ten Haag, Conte, Nagelsmann

Then, although I'm barely up to date with which managers are showing promise around Europe right now (football clubs would have experts paid to do that job) you have guys like Potter, Weinzierl, Rose and even guys like Moyes, Rodgers who aren't necessarily capable of being top level but are solid enough.

I'm definitely not suggesting we just appoint just anyone better than Arteta because that would still include plenty of bang average managers.

I'd say Ten Haag and Overmars are the guys we should move for but what the club can't continue to do is keep Arteta. The guy has shown no managerial talent of note despite being backed massively financially.

I'm sure other posters would be more up to date on which managers are currently looking promising

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we don't need him to win the ballon d'or, we just want him to score goals like strikers do and he used to do it rather well.
His last 3 full seasons at Dortmund:
- 25 goals in 46 appearances
- 39 in 49
- 40 in 46
His last half season prior to join us in January
- 21 in 24 (Not too shabby!)
His first half season under Wenger
- 10 in 14
The Emery came
- 31 in 51
- 29 in 44 (half Emery, half Arteta)
Arteta first full season
- 15 in 39
- 7 in 15 so far.

You are not asking yourself the right questions GT.
First one should be how a striker can do from 0.61 goal/game to 0.38?? What happened there?
And if as you said he is a striker who needs a tons of chances before scoring, then the second question should be why on the feckin earth did we give him a new contract? Surely the manager should have been award that his style of play will translate to minimum chances so he needs someone more clinical upfront?

Clearly there is something missing with our creativity - no one is denying this. I just don’t think it’s helpful comparing the form from 5,6,7 seasons ago to now, of a low-touch striker, who’s pretty much relied on his pace throughout his career, and using that as some kind of indication of anything.

Apparently he had malaria last year, that's often caused players form to drop for years if not for good.

That doesn't excuse the blatant lack of attacking play under Arteta though, we're absolutely awful in that regard with or without an in form Aubameyang

I tried to stay objective so the 0.61 vs 0.38 wasn't 5, 6 or 7 years ago.
That was 2.5 years ago during Emery full season. Yes, Emery!
Again, Auba might not be faultless in this but then we should have realise this before offering him a new contract.

Tbf, we looked far, far worse going forward without ESR. His ability/increased productivity has been a sticking plaster for Arteta's attacking coaching.

Was hoping saka would increase his numbers too, but no such luck yet.
