tbh I am perfectly happy to keep Martinelli if we can get in Eze to replace Trossard. It will take the pressure off Martinelli, and he may respond. We know he can't handle it when he is the centre of attention.

Trossard was never good enough to start every game.

But what does this have to do with Martinelli's form over the last 2 seasons. How would Eze potentially taking his spot and rendering him a bench warmer make him a better player?

Havertz' physicality or "concentration " and whatnot are not his issues. He works hard and competes well physically. His problems are almost entirely and issue of technique: poor touch and control, poor balance on the ball and poor shooting (guy can almost never get away a clean shot).

You said the competition from Trossard did not make him lift his game. My point is he knew Trossard was not good enough to bench him permanently whereas someone like Eze is. So if he wants to play, he will need to do better, or he can leave.
