Trappatoni said he is strong, quick and good in the air..... Was he still talking about Robbie Keane?
Maybe trappatoni is a kean fisherman and prefers his Sammon to Cox?
Fair play to Sammon, i'm kind of glad though, we've already had Lansbury injured, do want to see Cox out too
I don't think it's exclusively "Clough Detractors" who question the £1.2m acquisition of Sammon; it's most people with eyes.
Admittedly, those blessed with deep footballing insight will also have noted that Clough is an effective a team manager as Sammon is a prolific striker, but don't let that get in the way of a jealous pop at those more astute than yourself

I haven't seen much of him but he looked ok the couple of times I have. But I've seen a few Derby fans say hes the worst player they've ever seen in a Derby shirt.
Im not a follower of the irish national side but surely they've got better options.
I wouldn't say he is by any stretch the worst player I have ever seen in a Derby shirt. I am however baffled how Wigan squeezed out a profit on him and we were told he would be the goalscorer we were looking for, only to be told weeks later that he is in the team for his work rate not his goals.
I haven't written him off just yet, unlike Theo he looks like he knows what he wants to do but doesn't have the ability to do it.
Good luck to Sammon as to all the lads in the green of Ireland.
However, his inclusion says more about the bereft state of Irish football than his so called speed and ability in the air.
"I wouldn't say he is by any stretch the worst player I have ever seen in a Derby shirt."
Dead right there Tommo.
I had the rather dubious pleasure of watching the likes of Derek Hales and Roy (Reg) Greenwood and believe me, they set the bar really low.
Mikel Beck and Blessing Kaku are up there
I don't think it's that he's the worst... It was less than 10 years ago when we had the likes of Nick Chadwick and a (very poor at the time) Danny Graham up front for us.
I think it's the fact that we waited SOoooooo long to spend money on a striker, with (in particular the Clough apologists) making the excuses that we will become a good side once we spend money on a striker, only to see over a million blown on somebody so anti-climactic!
Having Trappatoni back one player over another player is absolutely no indication of ability, if anything quite the opposite. Trappatoni is a pigeon english simpleton whose football belongs in an 80's timewarp. As an irish fan I can tell you that 90% of fans are completely exasperated by this geriatic charlatan. He's also the man who picks championship strikers on the wing regularly over premierhsip wingers, his little favourites over the years have included McShane, Kilbane, Green, Keogh/Cox (predominantly as a wingers) over in form premiership regulars. he also pretty much picked the same starting 11 for 4 years straight and never bothered his lazy geriatic wrinkly backside to watch any new players. The result was basically no team evolution culminating in our embarrassing and pathetic showing at the Euro's where he ignored players such as Wilson, Coleman, Long, McClean, McCarthy, Walters etc. The guy is a stale turgid waste of space and this is only proved further by his selection of Sammon whose only game so far for Ireland was against Poland where the lad struggled and was completely out of pace!!
Sammon makes his International World Cup debut and its a pop at Nigel Clough

I suggest you read the original post, and the subsequent responses prior to reading my post Backo.
There's quite clearly a reference to 'Nigel Clough detractors', and in the responses, accusations that Sammon is the worst ever Derby player.
good luck to the lad and to the Irish, from a Red point of view its also not a bad move, in that there is less chance of Cox getting injured, which at the current time is far more important to us.
Hope Sammon bags a hat-trick for you (though tbh it does seem unlikely), but I sincerely wish him all the best.
Mostyn..You had to raise another so called issue with Nigel Clough that hes blown a million pound on Sammon. Conor Sammon is making his international World Cup debut for Ireland tonight. I wish him as a current player of Derby County all the very best. If people on here think Conor Sammon is one of the worst players they have seen at Derby then they are either lieing..Being Stupid or not watched Derby at all.
no Backo, I was explaining to our less learned friends as to why some people are so against Connor Sammon!
See how demented Sheepy is...Conor Sammon has been picked ahead of Forest's Number 1 Striker...
It comes to something when the 'International strikers' ROI have to call upon are a washed-up has-been now playing in the three-ring circus "MLS Soccerball World Series Championships" and two Championship strikers who have barely managed double figures between them all season, even including Cox's mis-control of a hoofball which somehow earned him 'Goal of the Season'.
Envy? Jealous? 666?
He plays a big part in creating goals 666. Works hard for the team and gives 100%
I'd like to see how Fishy would of attempted to control and guide that cross .... cross ... that is, ......cross, into the net.
as if he'd get anywhere near it
Pah!
Blatant miscontrol as he fell over, I was embarrassed to watch it! Ball thundertwatted forward from the halfway line in a desperate attempt to clear your lines, Cox is trying to bring it down and it loops off him, over the bewildered keeper.
Even Sammon only tends to miscontrol the ball once at a time, perhaps that why the league awarded it to Cox for his double fail, a kind of ironic statement about the standard of the game nowadays or something.
Cox out.

As a Forest fan I'd like to say well done Sammon, if it means Cox is fit and ready for Saturday (and rested).
What you're saying Florist is Fishy won't be fit and available for the relegation 6 pointer on Friday for the sheep then.... Oh dear he'll have to do a Lewis off the bench then
