Can we beat United?

Samir,

Why include games at Old Trafford? This game is at the Emirates.

Why include cup games? This game is in the league.

The problem here is Fab and Samir are talking about fixtures including Old Trafford whereas the rest of you are only including Emirates games.

Of course, Penguin. Why would you include games at OT when the game is at the Emirates?

D'Jeezus

10/11 season, they beat us 1-0 comfortably, they knocked out of the cup with a very weak side out yet we didn't really trouble them. We beat them in a meaningless game at the Emirates.

11/12 season they hammered us at OT and although the game at the Emirates was a little more even we deserved to lose based on the first 45 minutes alone, our first half performance was absolutely horrendous.

12/13 season they beat us 2-1 and they were comfortable for the entire game, we scored an utterly meaningless goal in the 95th minute.

But of course, United don't regularly dominate Arsenal. Stop talking out of your fúcking arsé.

We did not deserve to lose against United at the Emirates last year. We outplayed them in the second half and on our day are more than a match for them. Yeah, we've wilted against them far too often for one reason or another but it's often been down to our own shambolic performances. When our minds are in the right place we can give them a game so why dwell on the negative?

So what if it's at the Emirates? We both play each other home and away each season, be it league or cup. Our general record against them whenever we play is very poor recently and there is no denying that. Why you got so defensive about it I have no idea. I don't like the fact that they beat us so regularly, but it is what it is.

You do realise that there is a difference between home and away games. And cup games.

Fact is at the Emirates we have won 3 drawn 1 and only lost 2.

4 out of 6 they have not beaten us.

This game is at the Emirates, has that fact passed you by?

Someone has no appreciation for home advantage.
They have only beaten us TWICE at the Emites in six games. How does that equate to them ALWAYS bending us over at the Emirates.

If we play at our best then of course we have a good chance to win.

I never said we always bent over for them at the Emirates, though. YOU were the one who decided to bring up our home record.

I said: ''The last two seasons you've beaten us with relative ease''

Prior to this season, they beat us 1-0 at OT and 2-0 at OT. Both comfortable wins. We beat them at The Emirates but it didn't mean anything as we'd bottled the league cup final and went on a terrible run.

Last season they beat us 8-2. That was very comfortable. At the Emirates, they beat us 2-1, where they dominated us for the first half, Nani and Valencia were giving our fullbacks nightmares. Second half performance was better, but when they scored the 2nd, we had no resolve and they saw the game out.

All in all, I don't see what was wrong with my original comment. You are just putting words into my mouth.

Possibly but we would need to play at an high level to do so. They're a very difficult team to break down, and usually tear us apart on the wings so it would need to be a very good performance. If we do this, we stand a chance. Don't get your hopes up though.

The game is at the fecking Emirates. In the league. Why would you discuss anything else? Anything else has as much relevance as what you had for dinner.

United under Ferguson do seem to have us in this psychological thrall that has convinced fans and even the players that we're beaten before we step out onto the pitch.

We need to get out of this mentality, it's not like they're that much better than us. They're not, we need to start showing some self-belief. It's probably down to the team to do it before the fans start believing themselves but it doesn't help for supporters to approach every fixture with them with total doom and gloom.

Why would you discuss anything else?
---

Because I was talking in a general sense that they tend to beat us comfortably. Plus, of course anything else is relevant. We play each other home and away. Ofc home advantage is important, but why disregard the other results just because of the venue?

And by the way, they've beaten us 3 times at the Emirates overall. Even if you don't want to include the CL fixture, our record against them at the Emirates domestically isn't anything to write home about.

3 wins, 1 draw and just two defeats in 6 games against the dominant team in the period is a decent enough record.

It's alright I guess, but it does irritate me knowing whenever we play them, they tend to have the psychological advantage over us going into these games.

Winning regularly against you and finishing above you every season would suggest we are that much better than you.

Thanks for that dazzling piece of insight Daz, but you finishing no more than a couple of places above us in the league every season shouldn't make for consistent walkovers. In any league you'd expect the team around 4th/5th to give the team around 1st/2nd something to think about. I at least expect my team to talk onto the pitch thinking they can win.

We always bend over for United. The last time we got a victory over them that actually mattered was back in 2008 when we needed a win after the 4-4 vs Spurs and defeat vs Spurs.

Ever since then they have spanked us repeatedly and if they come to the Emirates needing a result they will more than likely get it.

In what way was the win in 2010-11 not important at the time??
It put us on 67 points, with 3 games left.
United were on 73 with 3 games left.

At that time their next game was v Chelsea, and ours v Stoke.

Of course things went títs up, but at the time of the actual game it put us back within a sniff of the title.

Table after that "non-important" game...

We were never going to win the title even after that win DJM, there were too little games left and no character in the team

Fab, that is not the point. The point is people are saying we bend over for United at the Emirates when it matters. That game, at the time, was massive.
