Can we beat United?

Not really DJM they and us both knew we were never going to win the title

But it's the consistency with which both these things happen.

Valencia have had the odd win over Barca in the last few years but are regularly beaten by them and always finish below them. This is because there's a huge gap between the teams - same thing applies to United and Arsenal.

Even that game where we lost at the Emirates in 2011, we were more focussed on the CL final as we didn't need to beat you.

Wow.

Put it this way, if Utd play the way they have been playing since going out of the CL and we keep up our form it will be a walkover for us

We are not talking about who is better over a season. We are talking about the game at the Emirates in the league. Where United have only won twice in the league. Arsenal have the better record at the Emirates in the league.

In previous seasons, such as 10-11 and 08-09, United have been far better in the league.... BUT... Arsenal have won the league game at the Emirates.

How all this points to a conclusion that Arsenal will bend over for United in our game in a few weeks is beyond any reasonable explanation.

DJ, that was in reply to the other poster. He said United aren't much better than Arsenal, this is clearly false, hence my Valencia example.

I expect us to beat you. That doesn't mean we will, I'm not as confident as if we were at home.

Look fair enough Daz. You're a United supporter and will put your dominance over us to your own team's superiority.

For me it's no coincidence that this dominance happened ever since the 50th game and I put it down to some psychological grip your manager has ours in. If you approach a match like you're already beaten, like we did at OT this season for example, what chance do you have?

Also think using Barcelona as an example is a little unfair considering the gap between them and everyone else these last few years. You wouldn't put United on a par with Valencia, would you?

Oh, my apologies Darren. As I said before, I do not see an issue with United fans being confident. It is the Arsenal fans who think we will, and always do, roll over for you at the Emirates.

I get what you're saying.

The psychology thing is probably true, but it's also down to how Arsenal often play into United's hands as well - especially at Old Trafford.

Even before the 50th game your record at Old Trafford wasn't great - I think you've won like 3 times in 20 years.

Maybe a little harsh with the Valencia/Barca example.

No worries, DJ. I can understand that.

You do play better at the Emirates that's for sure. Perhaps the fans pessimism in the stadium also reflects on the team? Hard to say.

Ah yeah, we have made it easy for you too often and it's frustrating beacause we've shown on occasion that we can give you a game when our heads are in the right place, and we usually have at the Emirates as DJ has pointed out.

To be fair I'm not giving enough credit to United either. The CL semi-final was embarassing, especially O'Shea effectively ending the tie in the first ten minutes at The Emirates and everyone hotfooting it. Quite often you've been too good for us, but as you say we don't help ourselves.

Until about 2 or 3 years ago Wenger was ahead on their head to hear record, Fergie must be now but it's marginal. I used to be really confident playing United. A couple of times we didn't turn up, sometimes we had weakened teams and others we were unlucky.

AHB, yeah, it's a strange one.

You seem to save most of your best for Spurs, Liverpool, City and Chelsea in recent years.

We can only speculate as to why this is as we do not know enough about the psychological and tactical nature of the sides, just making assumptions of what we can see rather than what we know.

A bit like how we try to second guess Fergie's decisions to start Giggs against City and Barcelona.

I hope you do give us a game though. Arsenal vs United used to be the games of football in the country, and some of the best in Europe.

Would be nice to see a rivalry like that again as it was a good one. Although, some of the díckhead Arsenal fans make it hard for people to want Arsenal to be on that level again.

But I do know many United fans really enjoyed that rivalry we once had.

Daz being one of those diickhead fans when it comes to United, it pains me to admit how difficult it is argue with you. Wish you were more like Greg at times, it'd just be easier.

Darren is usually considered in his opinion, in my experience.

I enjoyed the rivalry with Arsenal.

The spurs fans are better though...

We all have them, I suppose. I get on ok with a lot of the Arsenal fans and your board does get a bad rep.

I guess some people aren't as tolerant to people having a bit of banter, and then usually disregard their opinions on that basis.
