I said this before and I'll say it again.

Here we have a batting line-up who have the inability as a TEAM and as INDVIUDALS to score runs. And to do it on a consistent basis.

Then when we have someone like Azhar Ali who CAN score runs people moan about how slow he scores. I'm sorry, but HE SCORES RUNS, something these players don't do. First find and build individuals and a team who can score on a consistent basis then moan about how slow they are.

Azhar Ali at three if he scored 60 off 90 balls, and Umar Akmal at 4 or 5 scores 40-60 at a S/R of 90+. We only have one thing. Two types of innings complementing each other. You then add on someone like Jamshed who opens, when he gets going he can score big...Add Misbah to that middle order and you have reliability. And all of sudden what is occurring? A platform for a young and experienced team to build itself!

Why isn't Umar Akmal being picked?

posted on 10/6/13

Umar Akmal was not picked because the selectors felt he was not producing in the manner in which they wanted. Plus, prior to this tournament he had pretty bad domestic form. So, they decided not to select him. Muppets.

Azhar Ali

We are struggling to get over 200 runs in an ODI innings and you guys want azhar Ali in, who has a strike rate of 67%. Clueless.

Also one thing to keep in mind is the recent elections in Pakistan and that nawaz shareef is back. He's already sacked one of the selectors and this board is made out of zadaris chumps... Expect that to change. With new selectors will come changes, I'm sure.

Hold up...

Here we have a player like Azhar Ali who has the ability to score runs, something which this team can NOT do. Yet all you are fussed about is S/R.

People used to say the same about Misbah. Yet he was the one out of all the players who used to score consistent at a poor S/R.

The point I'm trying to make you have a player that has already played the ODI format. He can score runs on a consistent basis. You select him. Then when you manage to get the team winning and scoring on a consistent basis then worry about S/R. People worry about S/R before the actual run scoring!

We need a player who can play the Trott role in these conditions which will be replicated in Aus/NZ and the only player that fits the bill is Azhar. At least he won't allow a straight ball to hit the stumps.

I just hope someone is man enough to tell Hafeez to drop down the feckin order.

posted on 11/6/13

No, don't worry Kash, Shahid Afridi will play our anchor innings!

posted on 11/6/13

I'm not just thinking about strike rate, but we have issues with the top order who slow down by either losing wickets or going at a run-rate of 2 an over, building more pressure on the middle order. It's not good enough. If azhar Ali is the alternative, we may aswell give up this sport altogether.

Ps, wtf is kurram manzoor? Wtf has sohail achieved? Rizfeckinwan....Feck all??? Stop branding about names of these wannabes. Maybe they should come in when we play at the uae vs bengs or Zimbabwe, but to want them in at the deep end before they've done naff all just shows some of you lot could apply for a PCB selectors job

Still peeeed off at yesterday. I said on here when the squad was announced that its the worst I've ever come across - I've been proven spot on.

Who Afridi:

who averages 11.61 in 20 world cup games
who averages 15.18 in 13 CT games

He is our saviour.

PS the above is hit batting and not his bowling

Why don't you tell us your starting eleven, Afridi14...I'm intrigued! We all said this was a pretty rubbish squad, so you were not alone on that front.

Btw, khurram manzoor, this is a guy I'd have in Test matches. That's for a different argument.

Then there is Mohammed Rizwan. I'm not going to sit here and allow Pakistan to continue with the W/K they have...That is where Rizwan comes into it. Lets see what he has got. You pick players that perform on the domestic scene and quite clearly he has performed. I'd have Umar as W/K, but I want him to bat as high as possible without any distraction for now.

People said for hafeez at the top . for afridi to be dropped for malik for younis to go youngsters to be given a go to see the goof troof back

Fact is, a younis, a afridi and a umar akmal would have chipped you to 235 yesterday. I’m not saying afridi is the next viv Richards, but hes the best number 7 we’ve got by a long distance. Younis is the best number 3 we’ve got by a stretch of the M1 and umar akmal is the best middle order batsman we’ve got with an average of almost 40.

Pakistan and india are both teams that thrive on exciting and attacking cricket. Tick tock nick nock hasn’t worked and never will. That attacking mind-set has remained over the years with our bowlers, but not the bastmen…. We don’t have the patience or the desire to tick it around, never have.

If afridi or umar akmal performed like hafeez or malik in this tournament, you lot would have been slating them non-stop, but with these two muppets, you can hear a pin-drop.

Ps – I’m not knocking rizwan sohail and these guys, im sure they are talented. But there just isn’t time for people to settle in and play in big tournaments. We have to accept that in 2 years, you can’t expect us to blood in 5/6 youngsters and expect them all to play in WC and lead us to glory with 18 months experience. I’ll guarantee you that 7/8 of those players will be current players, with maybe 3 or 4 new faces – so lets stick to the best we got!!!

A14 was lambasting Younis in SA

Khan bats at number 4 and not 3 and let me tell you he would not have made the ounce of difference. Just look at his shocking world cup and CT record and it will show you that he's not up to it

What are you on about giving the younsters a go? I didnt realise Farhat, Malik and Shafiq were young . Umar Amin got a game but I said from the start he is poor.

posted on 11/6/13

Kash, agreed I was lambasting younis in saffers tour. He was constantly getting into 20’s and early 30’s before losing his wicket…. As it goes, his replacements can’t get into double figures, so I’m trying to make the best of a poor situation. I suspect a dodgy 20 or a 30 from younis in both windies and saffers game would have seen us cross the line
Kash, im happy to adjust my views based on the reality of the situation. You’ve been calling for owais Zia in this squad and it aint even funny

My ODI team:

1. Jamshed
2. Sharjeel Khan
3. Azhar Ali
4. Umar Akmal
5. Misbah
6. A youngster or less experienced batsman, i.e Haris Sohail
7. Mohammed Hafeez
8. Wahab Riaz/ Gul
9. Saeed Ajmal
10. Junaid Khan
11. Mohammed Irfan

Now, in that team the only unknown quantity is the opener Sharjeel and the guy that'll bat at 6. Plus, at the top of the order you simply can not have a problem with S/R because of the openers and Umar batting around Azhar.

By the time the next world cup comes the new players will have played upto 25 games. I agree with Amir there is room for 2 new young guys.

Afridi in SA even Malik was getting 20s and 30s but like Khan he was unable to replicate this in 2 games when it's been overcast. You sure love to contradict yourself

Awais Zia I'd even have him before Farhat.

Have a read of the above, scroll down and read a few of the pages. Such an interesting read

2 new guys, considering azhar has played the best part of about 12 games in odis, he can class himself a newbie, and based on that amir has 4 new players in his team, not 2…. What’s that about contradictions?? . Ps – no contradiction at all shoaibs maliks last 50 innings has an average of 18, younis doesn’t

posted on 11/6/13

Azhar has played since 2010. You cannot call him a newbie. Just like we cannot call Shafiq a newbie he has been playing since 2009. If Pakistan are not going to build now when are they going to build? One at a time?
Azhar has Test match experience it is not as if he's going to be out of his comfort zone completely.

First you moan about S/R then playing too many new players. What next?

PCB – What an utter shambles. I thought we’d be one of the favourites for the CT this year, but with this shocking selection, we wont get passed windies and saffers making the india game a dead rubber and a complete waste of time!!! If you wana drop afridi, fine, but his replacements are a joke.

Reasons for an early exit:

Lower order looks thin

Hafeez, does he know we're playing saffers in the second game??

Farhat

Malik this guy averages about 20 in the last 2 years

Amin – we’ve seen him before in England, looked like a dog with a lost bone quite frankly.

Newbies – you don’t bring in a line of youngster in alien conditions and in a big tournament – PCB are hell bent on knocking their confidence – abit like they’ve done with UA.

Overall, this is a bit and pieces team, with a bunch of nobodies who on their day can fluke a victory here and there with their eyes closed. Most are tuk tuk yawn yawn slug players that will be caught napping at the crease in England. This is probably the worst Pakistani squad going into a tournament I’ve ever seen.

Pakistan failed, not because Shahid Afridi was in the squad, but the pure fact those who we did not want were picked. We had been saying for time we didn't want Hafeez batting at the top, Imran Farhat still playing after 10 years, Malik playing in the middle order (The only reason some went with him was because of his performances v India) and most wanted Kamran gone too. I had said I rather we pick youngsters and fail with them than rather pick experienced players. I said that for RSA tour during the Tests and the CT.

What I'd also like to see some of our players playing on the English domestic circuit. If the likes of Rehman sign for counties why cannot others? At this period of time what are the likes of Azhar and Umar Akmal doing, a county stint would do them the world of good.

Plus somebody from the top needs to take the flack, along with those who agreed with this team. Dav Whatmore's time is quite clearly up. It was unfair on him when he became coach, but Mohsin Khan needs to be brought back in some aspect. The guy knows how to work with the younger players, as he showed v Eng (Asad Shafiq was a prime example).

But, as far as I know Malik and Kamran will face the axe for sure. We need back Afridi as a squad player because he may or may not perform but at least he brings some positivity. As I said I'd start to play Azhar at three, but have Younis in the squad for experience.
