We did the same with Raddi remember and I think Hull did the same with Boyd. I'm not sure of the exact reasons why though.
Did we? I thought because of all the "Sign him up" chants over the season, i'm sure we hadn't concluded a deal for Raddy. Also Boyd was due to the fact they could only send him to Hull on loan as outside the transfer window, but perm was agreed for summer window.
I'm hearing Hobbs will join us permanantly regardless of what happens.. No problem really but just wondered why this was the case
I always thought it as a fail safe. If things go well then we take him up on the perm at the end of it. If things go dire and we have a hutch/ayala situation then we leave it there and dont take up the extension. Stops us collecting deadwood.
Could it be that there is concern that his ruptured cruciate ligament injury, which kept him out 8 months last season, is still an issue; could we “return to sender” if this reoccurs? I have no idea if this so, but just a thought.
He's out of contract at the end of next season so he'd be a free agent. Maybe there's some benefits to signing a free agent rather than signing them from a club. It will be about money somewhere a long the line
Truth is your over budget and Billy is spending next years money already. Trust this helps.
I see you red dogs are still splashing the cash. Backo I bet Billy boy has already spat his dummy out
Backo knows
All depends on the wording of the agreement. If Forest have the option to extend if they want, then it's a sensible precaution against injury. If Forest are committed regardless of what happens this season, then it's a strange one.
Apparently jack got a huge payrise when hull went up and it triggered a clause in his contract, and now they have signed two new centre backs. So hull want to free up his high wages. So, rather than us pay a transfer fee and offer him lower wages that he wont accept, we will have paid a small loan fee and taken on his high wages for one season. The high wages probably equates to the same overall sum we would have to pay to buy someone of his quality anyway, its just spread out over 12 months. Hull get him off their wage bill. Jack doesnt take a pay cut. Everyone is happy.
the interesting part is what wages have we offered him in the 2 year contract that starts next summer when his hull contract expires? If its the same wages and we don't go up then we will be in trouble or have to sell him sharpish, but I guess we should break even if we sell him. Hopefully we will have him on sensible wages in his two year deal
Nominal loan fee to cover the first year, Hull get unhappy squad player off their books, Hobbs gets first team football. Forest get a year to look at him (post cruciate injury) and sign him for a free next season when his Hull contract expires.
Are u lot Thick???....The deal would not of happened unless Forest agreed to buy him and give him a 2 year deal. There is no "having a look", Forest cant afford him at minute so have structured a way round it. Use next years budget
He's out of contract at the end of the season. There is no fee to be payed with "next years budget"
Derby fans are always inventing absolute tosh, passing it off as fact, presumably expecting us to tie ourselves in knots with worry.
"Are u lot Thick???....
Oh, the irony!
Thanks backo, best laugh I've had for ages.
Sutton. Who said anything about a fee?
I particularly like the way that his sentence, accusing us of stupidity, included 'u' instead of 'you', a capital T on thick, three question marks, and some entirely pointless ellipses.
Thanks backo, best laugh I've had for ages

No probs. But u do really need to try and get out more
You're going in really hard with the irony today Backo.
"We know he's been released by Aston Villa and we've heard he wants to stay in the Premier League," said Nigel Clough in the Derby Evening Telegraph.
"He's that kind of 'Jake Buxton' centre-half we like.
"If the possibility became available down the line, we would look at it. But I think he will be looking to stay in the league above for now."
-------------------
Nope Nigel... He is 33 and signed for QPR...but don't worry ....I quote you "If the possibility became available down the line, we would look at it"
Maybe next year when he is 34 eh Nige?
I see he was offered the chance to join Fester, but joining Forest was "the obvious choice".
Brilliant, I like him already!

------------------------------------------------------------------
Pity the Forest "darling" Wes didn't think like that
But i'll let you in on a little secret....If QPR had wanted to sign Jack Hobbs then he would of signed for them. Jack Hobbs has signed because Forest have guaranteed his wages for the 2 seasons after this one....oooooohhhhh risky business but that's how King Billy rolls. Just letting you know the truth
Nigel wanted Dunne, but he signed for QPR
Are you that close to Jack Hobbs you have a little secret? Did he tell you he would of signed for QPR?
Owd Backo making up stories. Jack Hobbs is a Red. It must really hurt if you have to make up these "truth" stories.
As the OP says, it's all a bit odd. Hull want shut of him, that's plain. Why? The player wants as decent a contract as he can get for himself, fair enough, and Forest are in great need of a central defender after failing to get Morgan back and with pre-season well under way. It does seem that Forest have had to agree to a less than optimal deal to secure a player and may end up with a millstone round their necks if it doesn't work out.
Still, it's not Billy's money he's gambling with, so why would he care? It's not as if he's interested in what he leaves behind when he goes, and with his lawyer installed he knows he's coming up smelling of roses no matter what hits the fan.
Nigel probably would of liked Dunne but QPR have the parachute payments so once they paid what he wanted Derby were never at the races. Same with Baptiste and Kilgallon. But Jack Hobbs...ive never rated him myself so no it doesn't hurt me. The truth of the deal does though...its a risk. But Welcome to Billy "its all about Me and Now" Davies. The truth is out there
By the way as for Hobbs going to Leicester... not a chance..they could not match his demands due to their already high wage bill.
