The Daily Mail!? must be true then

Kharse - "I fear another world dominating Australian team is just round the corner..."

REALLY? On what basis do you make that then? Quite honestly looking at their Australia A team and their youth setup I'd have to argue otherwise. I don't see anyone there to frighten me.
Unlike England, who have the likes of Ballance, Overton, Butler, etc waiting in the wings?
I disagree with your assessment. I think the Aussies are facing a long road back to prominance. Maybe 7-8 years give or take....

Kash, i remember this match-fixing rubbish some time back and it was all a load of hot air. The allegations were unprovable - the Met & Greater Manchester police looked into it. Done and dusted mate, and there was only Topley banging on about it, obviously trying to make a name for himself, as a result he was kicked out of the game

Spinkler,

Is that the base to every single argument you make? Match fixing! Because like I said 8/9 test playing nations have been proven to have match fixed at some point, including fingers pointed at atherton / anderson for ball tampering and county cricket over the years…….

It seems like you cant factually prove the “greatest” and “proudest” argument and now resorting to match fixing. It’s a bit like people who use the same old used and abused argument of the england players not actually being english…. Grow out of it

Very proud Pakistan fan, will stick with the team through thick and thin … but your obviously prouder and greater in your support and delusion

Drbantam,
my prediction is based on history of Australian cricket.
Like I said, australia is to cricket as Brazil is to football.
Australia dont remain mediocre(like other team bar south africa) for long.
They are in the transitional phase and australia will be dominant team soon.
You cant see how, do you?
But see, thats the charisma of Australia, out of nowhere ,like magic, a Bradman comes, or a Shenwarne, or mcgrath or any world beater.
Australia produce magic at cricket .I dont know how, why, where.

i don't agree Kharse.
Cricket has been on the decline in Australia for some years mainly due to a poor coaching system and the fact that there is a reduction in the number of people watching cricket in Oz. First-class cricket played by the state teams is in a parlous state and the lack of club cricket played is causing an imbalance in the amount of practice junior players have coming into the game. Its a real problem

You see drbantam.
Thats what I'm talking about.
Australia cricket defy logic.
Out of nowhere they produce champions...against all odds, against all belief and anticipation.
Thats why they are Brazil of cricket.

WERE the Brazil of cricket.
Ysee i remember when West Indies dominated everyone, Aussies included. Where are they now?

Even when westindies dominated cricket, australia were their main competitors, i guess they regularly blackwashed the team like england.
But your point further illustrates the charisma of australia.
Yes, where's westindies now?
See some team dominates and fade.
But australia dominates, then some year rests, gives other team chance to shine, and all of sudden dominates again.
I am puzzled how they do it

Just look at australia's w/l records vs all nation in all formats.
Far ahead than the second best, south africa.

Aussie is to cricket as:
1.facebook is to Social network.
2. USA is to world power.
3. Brazil is to Football.
4. Mt.everest is to mountain.
5.pacific is to ocean.
6. Sherlock holmes is to detective
7. Leonardo vinci is to artist
and every superlative possible.

Kharse, the difference between England and Australia is not THAT pronounced. IN series terms they have only won a few more since cricket started. You seem to think the Aussies are the Harlem Globetrotters of the basketball world. They aren't anymore. I foresee quite a few barren years

Australia has a winning record against all teams, but England has a better W/L ratio than others.
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;opposition=2;orderby=win_loss_ratio;team=1;team=3;team=4;team=5;team=6;team=7;team=8;template=results;type=team

A record of W105-L133-D93 is not bad at all.

If you will pardon my American, England is the second "winningest" team in history behind Australia.

India's overall record does not look good, perhaps it was a relatively weak team until the '90s.

thats interesting Robbie thanks for that - hadn't seen that before! Technically speaking then i suppose you can kinda say we aren't too far behind the Aussies. Interesting stats on SA also, i was looking at the records and we aint done so well against them in the past! Interesting also on India i would kind of have put them ahead of Pakistan but not so!!

Aus w/l ratio
is better than that of 2nd best by 40%, that of 2nd best is better than 3rd by only about 12%.
Hence, there's not much difference in your stat between 2nd best and other team that that follows.
But thats a gulf between 1st and rest.
Also, what about ODI? Hasnt Australia won 40% of all World cups, which most outside Eng-Aus consider the most coveted trophy in world of cricket?
So, if there's any team that deserve to be called Greatest, Proudest and Championest , then its Australia and Australia only.

Australia have won a whooping 46% of all matches they have played.
Next best SA has 36%, Eng 35%,WI 32%.
In other word Australia stand alone at the top whichever way you look at, whereas other team are on similar standing.

your getting boring Kharse - I've already pointed out several times that its changing and why its changing. Nuff said as far as I am concerned. The assessment is only true of the past, not of the future

drbantam,

Our most miserable period was 1975-95, the years of WI domination. They were especially harsh on us.
