Not sure if they would add much to the 1st team if I'm honest, at best I'd think they were average at Championship level but you never know

Cisse is a destructive midfielder, could be good for seeing a game out or coming in for the more violent games, his distribution's always seemed a bit poor.

Don't know much about Simon Dawkins other than his brother doesn't like people who like god.

According to Wiki Cisse had his contract terminated by mutual consent from New England Revolution. Then had a trial with Birmingham who obviously didn't sign him. Can't be that good if neither of those 2 clubs wanted him.

Dawkins is 25 and scored 14 goals in a total of 68 games. He might get to 100 games by the time he hits 30

Not overwhelmed by this news. Only one thing I can think of which might be significant is that McClaren might be looking to get rid of Sammon. Hedging my bets like a tabloid journalist there.

Yeah interesting trials, I think Dawkins is pacey they were saying, I do feel since we lost Theo and Tyson a pacy striker would be of use and teams have had success pushing up high against us this season: Leicester, Burnley, having a pacy striker might force the oppositions defensive line back a little.

Likewise a solid defensive midfielder provides Eustace with a bit of competition, a bit of steel and allows Hendrick, Bryson, Hughes and Coutts to attack.

Kinda agree with Bush though, barring a break out season I don't see either of them featuring much.

My thoughts too Spart, not sure if we'll be going out and out 4-4-2 anytime soon and struggle to see Sammon fitting into the jigsaw puzzle. Then again injury to Martin n you never know.

Dawkins was well thought of at spurs but had years of injury nightmares and is now playing catch up but is a great technical player who can play on the wing, am and ss. Has been fit for a while now and played a lot in the youth set up and went to villa on loan last season.

I was hoping for George Boateng and Johnathan Greening though, so obviously a little underwhelmed.

Cisse was at Reading in the prem - would be a good option as competition for the 'Eustace-role'. Don't know much about Dawkins other than he was at Villa for the back end of last season.

At least now 'Apartheid' is over, we are open to signing a few liquorice allsorts.

More like Birmingham had no money - they couldn't even afford Adam McGurk who ended up at Burton!!!

Looks like McClaren has money to spend.

But not enough for proper players.

Same old Same old. Instead of Scotish 'up and comings' we get MLS rejects.

Iwas, stop mischief making!

You DO realise that we are limited to loan signings and free agents as the TRANSFER WINDOW IS SHUT!!

He couldn't spend money if he had £10000000000000 to spend!

Get a f **** grip!

666 and Mostyn how come whenever someone dares to criticise your Steve McClaren you jump on them.

So sick of the deluded pro McClaren contingent on this board. Shouting down anyone who dares have an opinion different to theirs.

Take off your rose tinted glasses will you, the man's riding on the coattails of Jim Smith, not signing a player during a closed window cos he's not allowed to is a typically deluded excuse from you bunch of happy clappers.

Bet 666 will get a 'special deal' from Slippery Sam on his half-season ticket

I'll get a complimentary one I should imagine

Small beans compared to the 'Key To The City' that I probably deserve for my service

It would appear that Nigel's remarks about not having the money for better players than are already at the club are coming home to roost. GSE OUT!!!!!

WTF are people moaning about free transfers when the transfer window isn't open...How do people take the fact that we have 2 people training for a week or so to see if they are any good, that means we don't have money to spend...Maybe NC should of had the likes of Sammon, Tyson, Naylor, maguire, Porter, dave martin etc train with the club for a couple of weeks before he signed them.

back at ya Mostyn and 666

If Steve had the dosh to buy proper championship players then he wouldn't waste his time and effort on these guys. Emergency loan or not.

posted on 14/10/13

it could see him thro' to the transfer window in Jan...We have a thread bare squad with the injuries we currently have...A couple more and we could need these 2 lads..

posted on 14/10/13

Griff just because I don't agree with your viewpoint doesn't mean you are right!!!!!

posted on 14/10/13

I'm confused as to what people want/expect? The transfer window is shut. Our squad is thin. So we get a couple of guys on trial to see if they can be any use to us in the short term and people use it as a very flimsy stick to try and beat mcclaren with.

Very odd.

What is going on here?!?!

*666 become pro Derby manager :P
*A few Derby fans slashing their wrists due to the quality of the signings.

We need squad players, you probably know this but it possibly needs reminding, we currently have Coutts, Hendrick, Russell and Hughes out with injury. Plus your defenders on the long term casualty list Barker, O'Brien plus Bailey ( who may possibly make a return to the side under McClaren?)

Thats a total of seven players. The next eight weeks will bring matches thick and fast, we're not blessed with a big squad and require reinforcements - at present that's in the free agent category as, again you probably know this, the transfer window is shut. Both Cisse and Dawkins are versitile players with Cisse capable of playing in Defence and Midfiled and Dawkins Midfield and Attack.

Between the two I believe Dawkins could be a decent acquistion for us - he was rated but never got a chance to break into the first team.

McClaren might not feel Buxton is cut out to be part of his side which is why he's looking at somebody slightly better, this is where Cisse fits the bill.

Likewise with Dawkins, Coutts has got slated by fans unfairly this season and he could provided him with some competition.

Let's see how these players fit in, let's wait til the transfer window opens up and who McClaren will be signing on a permanent transfer....his first 3 signiings will be key.

I'm prepared to give these 2 a trial but dont hold out much hope for either being any real use to us.
Cisse has played less than 200 games in 11 years as a pro and never really established himself. Dawkins is 25 and has only played 15 games in England and 53 in USA. Bit old to have "unrealised potential" irrespective of any injury nightmares he may have had.
If these 2 had been signed under the old regime, certain people on here would have been baying for blood. But now ...... its all sunshine and butterflies!
