Cannot see a midfielder though, Flamini on a three year deal was a stupid move.

===

How was it? Wenger will never pay over the odds for a limited defensive midfielder on principle alone. It was a good move.

Flamini was a great move. Love him.

Thinking in the long term he was.

For me a two year deal would have been appropriate.

You were wrong GT, you said Schalke wouldn't sell. They would have sold at the right price, Wenger wouldn't meet it.

i listened to football weekly extraaaaaa today, basically rafa honigstien was on he said that shalke are denying everything and say they havent met with anyone from arsenal. Arsenal say they sent the chief negotiatior out to germany.
Rafa h reckons that shalke handed over the negotiations to a trusted third party like an agent so they can deny any talks in public, he also said the feeling in germany is that no deal in jan but maybe in summer and that arsenal are unwilling to meet shalkes asking price by a fair bit.

Spaghetti Hans ‏@SpaghettiHans
Our source says that the Draxler to #AFC deal is still on. Arsenal preparing new bid. Could still be completed by tomorrow's deadline. #TME

Looks like it could still happen. They were the ones that called the Ozil deal before the North London Derby.

"Spaghetti Hans"?

Is this some sort of joke?

What Wenger considers is over the odds everyone else in football thinks is cheap. Arsenal appear to still be penny pinching tightwads

I wouldn't count anything out till the end of the transfer window. Schalke want another bidder to setup an auction.

posted on 30/1/14

Well that wouldn't be good news for us then, J99, seeing as Arsenal don't really do 'outbidding rival bids'.

It looks like they do have some well-placed sources. After all, they called Ozil before it was ever publically on the cards and they also broke the news that AFC called off the Higuain deal.

That was the old Arsenal, Lex. We know that Wenger was p/ssed at missing out on Hazard, C.Ronaldo etc. because we didn't have the money. Dein got us Theo or Chelsea would have nabbed him as well.

I don't think Wenger will take the chance of leaving it till the summer and watching him go elsewhere. Wenger's stamp of approval in the media means Chelsea, Man Utd and even Barca will be hot for him in the summer.

If Wenger intended to walk away he would have never exposed the business. Remember how no one knew of the first Suarez bid at £30m? That was so that he could walk away not looking like a fool. It was Arsenal who exposed the move for Draxler. Thats why the UK papers were following it step by step and the German media still have no idea.

I think there is more to come here. Like I felt with Ozil. One can never tell but I have hope.

Agree with you J99. Wenger plays maybe a bit poker till the last second of the TW again like he did with Özil. You cant exclude anything.

If Arsenal is really interested in Draxler he should pay what Schalke demands. In the next summer we will face big competition about him especially if Germany goes far in the WC and the players were hyped up again.

Wenger is naive in my opinion that you get that sort of talent for less than the asking prize. Schalke is not a rich club and needs money but they are not desperate. Why would they extend Draxler's contract pay more and tag a prize if they not going to get that?

-------------------
Not the point Gt. I am sure German media is just as outrageous as the UK media.

Sources come 3 ways.

i)The agents representing the buying club, that can incl, scouts, admin staff or club agents negotiating the deals.
ii)The player agent.
iii) The agents representing the selling club.

All 3 leak stuff to media depending on the reason. Now in case of Suarez, (ii) and (iii) were in play. Liverpool initially leaked the bid so that Arsenal would offer more, and then Suarez agent leaked stuff so that Arsenal could stay in budget.

In Draxler's case it is (i). Thats why the stories are coming from England. The player doesn't want to spoil his relationship in Germany and Schalke still want other clubs to come in. Those clubs won't come in if they think Arsene has persuaded Draxler to come. Remember all that tapping by Mertesacker?

So lets see till tomorrow. I am still hopeful.

Haha....somehow I agree with you being hopeful.

I disagree with you on the rest. At the end of the day money talks and in Draxler's case it is the same.

Ozil was in the works exactly at this stage in the summer. The Draxler deal looks defaulted now
