Reading rumours that the club demanded €150 for him during negotiations re. Barca's second bid.

If has any substance <IF> the club haven't been playing with a straight bid with the player. The message has always been that he is not for sale. Giving mixed messages may have given him the green light to spit the rattle.

As I said it's just internet chatter, but if their is some truth it again raises questions about FSG and how we deal with transfers in general.

By the way, does anyone still believe that he is genuinely injured?

Have you lot finished fingering each other? Can we get back to the more serious matters?

Wait how is there anything wrong with that?

They don't want to sell so demand an absurd amount in the knowledge that if he goes they have garnered a lot of money, but that Barca most likely wouldn't pay it. Whilst publicly stating he's not for sale because if they said "well you know maybe he could go" that would ruin any negotiation tactics with regards to their high fixed price.

Seems okay to me, I'd rather they just said no chance of a sale but if they have put a massive price tag on him they don't think Barca will pay then okay.

^^^ That was supposed to be in reply to PPD

If we dont want to sell him at any price why then give them a price? Maintaining the narrative that he's not for sale would surely be the sensible option.

If true I don't get it. It gives Barca and the player a the green light to ramp up the pressure and makes the manager look a foolish in the process.

By all accounts the injury is genuine.

He's been at Melwood everyday having treatment.

If it was something sinister then I don't think he would be near the club and we would know about it already.

He's had back injuries before though.

It's not out of nowhere.

Ultimately again it's down to belief. We don't know.

Klopp says we were looking before Lallana and Coutinho injured and we are looking after.

Talking of experience so sounds like an older player could potentially be coming in, which would make sense for the squad.

We will see what happens over the next 3 weeks.

If he was just staying away then he's be in line for a fine and it would potentially cause more issues, especially in the dressing room. Turning up for a massage and some stretching doesn't mean it's genuine. As I said, back injuries are the most common excuse when feigning injuries because it's impossible to tell if it's genuine. You can't scan It, there's no obvious swelling etc etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a bit of a myth that it's impossible to detect. I had physio on a (genuine) back injury last year, and my physio says they can spot the fakers. It may have been true years ago, but I think it's far more difficult to fake these days.

And this 150m just sounds like twitter rumour. Even if it's true and they actually paid it, we could just say feck it and throw the lot at RBL. Surely they wouldn't turn that much down??!!

“Are we looking still for players? Yes. That is the truth. But we were looking for players before Adam was injured. Now he is injured and Phil is injured so we have two less.

“It doesn’t make the situation more comfortable. You cannot be really prepared for situations like this but we have time.

“I’m just thinking about Watford and how we can start the season. But the 31st (August)? Yes, I know. Everything can happen. But I’m not sure that they will happen. If I were sure, they would probably already be in or whatever. It’s still open for business.”

Concerns remain about whether Liverpool have done sufficient business to build on last season’s top-four finish as they prepare for the added demands of European football this term.

But Klopp has been delighted by the impact of new boys Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

“We will see what happens for us. We’ve tried to strengthen the squad. That’s happened in all parts,” Klopp added.

“Dom puts pressure on all our other central strikers. Mo too and Robbo is really on a good way so that’s all cool.

“We got Hendo (Jordan Henderson) back after a long time out and that is also a big positive thing for us.

“Alberto Moreno – you saw him. He looks good, he looks different, he has matured. He used the year to work on a few things that we had spoken about. When he can really handle them, he is an outstanding player. That’s all good. In this moment I am really fine but we will see what happens.”

I didn't see it live, but Klopp sounds a little dispirited here???

Big game for Wijnaldum today I feel.

With no Lallana and Coutinho he will probably be the main link man between midfield and attack.

We know he has the quality but sometimes he doesn't impose himself enough. He needs to get on the ball and be positive.

I have gone Salah to score and us to win. £10 pays £30.

No result would surprise me though really. We could be the first crisis club of the season or Coutinho could be quickly forgotten with a good performance and win.

I don't believe the Coutinho injury personally, the timing of it just seems too convenient. As greatteams said going in for massages or what not proves nothing.

Either way there's no chance we will be seeing him before the City match on September 9th, by which time his head will hopefully be screwed back on.

That's what I've always said abiut Moreno, he's immature. I still feel he can be an excellent player and if he has matured as Klopp suggests then he deserves another chance.

I don't either. Funny isn't it how Coutinho, van Dijk and a few others who want to leave their clubs are all "injured".

I don't think Coutinho will play in the CL qualifier home or away against Hoffenheim. Barca will want him for the CL - I don't think the qualifiers count towards being ineligible for the groups do they?

He probably sounds dispirited because our best player just handing in a transfer request...

I'm willing to give Moreno this season, he looked excellent in pre-season and if as Klopp says he's been working in his year out then he deserves a go.

Exactly. Gives Barca the rest of the window to get him in. Not sure how long they will leave it though before looking elsewhere.

Few questions about how Coutinho and fans relationship will be if he stays. Same situation as Suarez when he wanted to go to Arsenal. Came back and all was forgotten when the games kicked in.

I'm almost certain that he can play for us in the qualifiers and still play for Barca if they sign him.

a player can play for one club in the first, second and third qualifying round, and/or the play-offs, of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League, and then represent another club from the group stage of either competition.
----------
So he could play and it'd make no odds to Barca.
