Considering Klopp is gone in 2 years; I'm not 100% sure at this point. I think we may ride this core group of players without properly refreshing the squad and hope it lasts till Klopp is gone when we will rebuild.

Boy did we look stale last night though.

Nah can't see us doing that, it would be insane.

We are hugely reliant on Salah and Mane and it showed last night. No width or pace about our game at all. Those two also help create space for the full backs. The full backs both had poor games but never had any space to have an influence.

I admit surprised at just how poor we were against 10 men, no shots on target against 10 men for 65 odds minutes is shocking in any circumstances, but can't really say I'm surprised about the lack of creativity in general.

We've known for so long those two wouldn't be around in this period and the huge drop off in quality to forward options. The likes of Minamino and Ox aren't good enough to even be backups. Firmino is past his best and Origi always extremely inconsistent.

Midfield had been good until this season but we lost our most reliable midfielder in Gini and didn't replace him. Milner has looked his age this season and the rest of our options are extremely injury prone. It means we are very reliant on our captain who is going through a bad period of form.

The defence and goalkeeper is the only area we have the depth required really.

It does come down to poor planning and lack of investment for me I'm afraid.

Got tickets for the Brentford game which I'm looking forward to. Hopefully we put in an improved performance but I definitely see us struggling to create chances in similar fashion again.

Think I said this on the match thread last night. I don't look at this team (aside from the defence and GK) and think how excited I am for the future.

I see a team that at times can be world class but also isn't really good enough to be contending against City anymore but find myself thinking I really hope we can win something before this team runs its course.

Really wish we'd picked up another midfielder and another attacker in the summer. Just to give us some fresh options.

When we've got a fully fit squad, there are many people that we'd have on the bench that I'd rely on to make a difference.

Firmino maybe but he's been pretty poor for a while now.

Bobby is still a good player but again our pace needs pace and width for him to be effective in that false 9 position. Put him alongside players that will tread on each others toes like Jota and Mina, neither who are natural wide players, and he will be largely ineffective.

Insert, I like Daka too as I mentioned but i'd probably have favoured more of a wide player in the Salah/Mane mould ahead of him, Can't think of many that moved in the summer but that doesn't mean we wouldn't have been able to sign others. Doku and David are two I like a lot.

We didn't really show any intention. We got Konate to replace Lovren a year later so were already playing catchup. After that we stopped and announced new contracts and VVD training videos.

Our style has never been to get the household name. Pretty sure our analytical team would have had a list of players for our system but we didn't invest.

I agree with Daka, and another player that moved in the summer that I think could have helped us (for free as well) was Calhanoglu. Wouldn't have been against Buendia either. Klopp could have made good use of Saul too.

Of the players that didn't move then Neto, Raphinha, I'm a huge fan of Pulisic that could well be let go by Chelsea (more of a stretch that one).

Then there's Tielemans who I think would make us a much better side from the get go.

There are always players available, it's all down to the willingness of the owners to spend when necessary. Konate was a great buy IMO, but we needed a couple more pieces to really stand a chance at competing this year.

We should do everything in the summer to get Diaz. He is physically strong, has the pace to beat his opposition fullback and has good decision making in the final third.

I said yesterday on the match thread the lack of pace in the wide areas were the problem. Mane doesn't score that much but he stretches the opposition defensive line to create big gaps between the fullback and centre back.
The movement off the ball was poor. Minamino and Firmino kept wanting the ball into feet.

I don't often criticise FSG but they need to strengthen the attack in the summer. That's the first priority.

Just a bad day at the office. No cause for alarms as yet.

We know where we need to improve but I think we will only buy when we get rid of some of our deadwood so until the likes of Origi and Minamino find new clubs...we're stuck with them.

Ox was putting some performances in and then got put in false 9 and has been poor since.

He just doesn't have the movement to play further forward...I don't know how we came up with that idea
