Daniel Sturridge

Porridge has had one good season and predictably failed for England bar one tap in served up on a plate for him by Rooney.

In the World Cup he was largely anonymous, wasteful and shooting from ridiculous positions, often high into the stands.

Playing for Diverpool, he has both help of Goofy and referees, which has helped him immensely.

Saying he is one of the top ten strikers in the world is OTT, maybe if he has another 2 or 3 seasons like last season then he could be put in that class.

So many clueless idiots. Know nothing about the game. Says something when Liverpool fans are more knowledgable

Sturridge was one of our best players against Italy and was average against Italy so not sure how that equates to woeful. 3 goals in his last 5 international appearances and 5 goals in his last 10 international appearances is impressive. Goal on his WC Finals debut. England fans like to simultaneously say they do not expect a lot but then want 10/10 performances from all the players.

I like Sturridge but I think you're overrating him here. I wasn't that impressed with his world cup performances.

I think he looks great because of Rodgers and Suarez. If you put him in our team he'd get nowhere near as many goals.

This is another myth, he scored goals for us playing regularly (from the wing), see above stats for his recent record for England, some of his best form for Liverpool was when Suarez was banned from the end of 12/13 to start of 13/14 and he scored goals for Bolton.

Some of his touches in the Uruguay game were impressive. Particularly his footwork in the build up to our goal

He played a massive part in the Urguay goal. He was a major part of the only two goals we scored at this WC so far.

I thought he was pretty good in both England games... It's our poor defence that let us down

No. It was our woeful midfield more than anything

More of his touches in the Uruguay game were woeful. Particularly when in sight of goal, one or two nice touches does not make a top class player, Porridge is streets behind the top strikers in the world.

Sturridge has an impressive form, with the right players around him for England he'll be a great talent

Really? I thought he showed some excellent control in Uruguay. More than one quick one touch flicks for Welbeck on the left and some excellent first time touches from difficult cross field passes in the second half. Certainly in this England side his touch is one of the best in the squad.

If the CBs tracked the runs of Suarez & ballotelli they wouldn't of scored but yea our midfield weren't great either

If our midfield could get some degree of control in matches our defence wouldn't be under so much pressure

It's very clear who on this thread knows what they're talking about and who doesn't

Sturridge didnt get the service he gets at Liverpool and the space created by the movement of Suarez. He was still better than Rooney and Welbeck.

Also teams played very defensively against him sitting deep.

I like Sturridge. Can't stand "Welbs" Welbeck tho. Dunno why. Just cant.

Our midfield 2 ( Gerrard, Hendo) is way too weak,

Sturridge just hasn't got the same service at club level

Studge scored close to a goal a match when Suarez was out of the side. With the rubbish gerrard and Henderson and Sterling providing the service.

and he had a very good world cup.

oh well. at least he'll be better rested for the upcoming season.

Porridge. Nice one billy.

A lot of posters are getting carried away again. Looks like we are embarking on Golden Generation Mark II. All hype again.
