Messi - POTT

Yeah, I remember the weird tale about his vomitting before and during many matches which has mystified doctors. They can't tell if it's a physical or psychological issue.

In any case, I think he'll look back with some regret at this tournament. He hasn't brought his best football when the team have needed it most. It hasn't eroded his legacy but it hasn't enhanced it either.

Anyways, gotta call it a night.

to be frank if you think Muller played better than Messi you are an idiot.

Did Messi play?

I didn't notice

Messi shouldn't even be in a top 10, never mind the winner

Utter joke

Does anyone know how the voting system goes? Is it a little like the Ballon D'or, with Lionel Messi's name in it twice?
-----------------------------------------

You mean the Ballon D'Or which FIFA manipulated last year, to make sure Ronaldo won

If you think Messi deserved it, you need to go have a lie down

I really wish some of you could see beyond attacking players for once.

Schweinsteiger and Mascherano were the players of the tournament for me.

This is what annoys me too

What about defenders and goal keepers. There's been some excellent keeper performances this WC

Macca

You mst not say anything against Messi to the Arsenal kids, they think he is in some way associated with their club.

Messi might outdo Maradona in terms of achievements and acknowledgements, but he'll never play like him. Sometimes I get the feeling I'm a nostalgic, but I just spent the last hour or so watching brief individual highlights from each of the Argies' matches in '86. He'd do things every game you just don't see anyone do. And the variety is quite astonishing.

I've been saying for a couple of years now that Messi is a lazy

He does have brilliant ability obviously but he simply wouldn't look as good without 2 of the best midfielders I have ever seen playing behind him.

Best player ever? Not even close for me

I haven't read all comments so I apologise in advance to anyone who has, but it's a shame nobody puts Keepers or defenders up top of their lists

----------------------------------------

I said the above comment last night. I guess we'll never change it - attackers always take the accolades

Interestingly though, this century he've Kahn and Cannavaro winning the World Cup Golden Ball. Haven't glanced back through the history of the tournament, but I'd be very surprised if 2 out of 4 wasn't a much higher proportion than in the 20th century.

to be fair Kahn while brilliant in 2002 made the big c.ockup in the final, you have to judge these things in the big moments aswell as overall performance in the tournaments, Ronaldo or Rivaldo should have won it in 2002

posted on 14/7/14

I'd have given it to Ronaldo every day of the year, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the keeper got recognition.

Not sure how it worked in '02, but I do seem to recall that in one of the recent tournaments the Golden Ball had already been chosen before the final, which is pretty ridiculous imo.

Some common sense on the issue.

Blatter and common sense mix together like oil and water though. He's pretty shameless tbh.

Even though he's declared his preference for Messi in the past, he's actually an honorary 'socio' of Real Madrid. Never hidden his admiration for Di Stefano and the fact he's supported them since his youth.

More for Maradonnas comments than Blatter.

Schweinsteiger dont deserve the golden ball. There were many player better than him in the WC, It wasnt even his best WC. He played much better in the last WC.

posted on 14/7/14

He do have Messi's no though. I dont think messi ever had a good game against him, Certainly not since he owned messi in the last WC.

Maradona's the don.

Luke, do agree Schweini stood out more in 2010, but the impression is he played deeper here than in S.A.

posted on 14/7/14

Schweinsteiger played in a deeper role in the last WC as well but he had the license to make forward runs more often. Thats what I really like about Schweiny, He doesnt bomb forward often but when he do, he always have an impact.

Would love to have him at united, Best CM in the world imo

posted on 15/7/14

My memory isn't all that good, but didn't he also have the main playmaking role in CM though (with Ozil further up the pitch of course)? I don't just remember him for getting into attacking positions more, but also for dictating the play. Think Kroos played or at least shared that role with him in Brazil.
