Very good article indeed OP.
I do beliveve Schneiderlin is a class player but you make a very good point about his partnership with Wanyama. To answer your question , I guess we will see how good he really is when he leaves Southampton and until then we can only judge him on his game now which is top notch IMO.
Schneiderlin is the 2nd best holding player in the league, I used to be mad about wanyama when he was celtic but has been mediocre since coming to southampton

When he got injured last season there goals per game conceded went up alot
Wanyama has been better than mediocre since coming to saints. My dads a saints fan so I have always taken quite a big interst in them, they've always been my second team I guess. So I've watched them a lot, and been from talking to my and his friend (also a saints fan) they've always maintained wanyama was a very good player for them and probably more important than Schneiderlin to their team. My dad always thought Schneiderlin was a bit overatted. However he is now starting to say he's improved and has become a better player this season. I've thought the same. He was a bit to much of a sideways passing player, and used to slow their play down a bit. But he's come on a lot this season IMO
But don't underestimate the quality of wanyama. He's a very important player for saints, and they look weaker when he's not playing. Probably more so than when schniederlin isn't playing. They make a great partnership. Also Cork is quite underrated for them, he always does a very good job for them. Same with Davis, he's been excellent. A lot of southamptons good midfield play gets credited to scheiderlin, when in fact a lot of should go to wanyama, Davis, and cork when he plays.
Schneiderlin-Ramsey behind, say, Walcott-Ozil-Alexis and Giroud up front would go such a long way in to help us earn a good points total.
He's overrated, but still a good player.
Southamptons style of play helps him.
How he would transfer his form to Arsenal, Spurs, United or whoever else he may end up at, is obviously the big question. I think he would struggle a fair bit if he was a replacement for Arteta (Flam/Coq) in our current formation.
I also suspect he would struggle playing next to aaron or jack
I don't think he's overrated as such BUT if you put him into the Chelsea team with their structure and system, he'd appear a much better player. I'm not sure whether Arsenal's system will allow him to shine as he'll always be left alone to break up attacks.
In my opinion Schneiderlin is a good player but not worth the money being asked for him. I think of him as a poorer version of Xabi Alonso.
Alonso is a deep playmaker - Schneiderlin a ball winner / holding player. People (and people in the media too) seem not to recognise the distinction. When Matic and Fabregas play next to eachother, their rroles are completely different.
Imo Arsenal need a Wanyama type of player.

Wanyama does as much if not more work than Schneiderlin.
Schneiderlin said he doesn't like playing with Wanyama because he prefers to sit deep and take the ball from defence and when Wanyama plays he can't do that. Would prefer a schniederlin type instead of a limited player who can only sit like Wanyama.
I have been saying for ages that Wanyama is what we need!
What Arsenal need is to find someone like Rosicky in his prime..counter attacks, technically good, fighting spirit, dynamic range of play, tackles and always up for it.
These are the type of players Arsenal should be looking for..hopefully a DM with similar qualities would be perfect.
Schneiderlin is not what Arsenal need, I would agree on that. But to suggest Wanyama is better than him would be stupid. Wanyama is a poverty footballer.
Neither Schneirderlin is overrated, or Wanyama is better than him. In fact, if anything Schneiderlins contribution to the team and excellent defensive display Southampton are showing is very much underrated. If they had lost Schneiderlin in the Summer, they would have really struggled.
Schneiderlin is exactly what Arsenal need. He's a realistic option and good enough for our style of play. I very much doubt he'll be off in January (in fact I'm 95% certain he'll stay at Southampton until the summer).
Wanyama is more beneficial to Saints...they are never as solid without him in the side.
However individually...i think Schneiderlin has more to his game.
Both of them together is arguably one of the best midfield pairings in the league.
