Poltergeist (he allegedly directed most of it but credited as producer)
------------------------------------
Really ? Honestly never heard that before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he co wrote it and was on set through most of it
It also feels closer to Spielberg than Tobe Hooper who officially directed it

How dare you

Hook is a masterpiece

It’s not all bad but when you take childhood nostalgia tints off you soon realise it’s a mess

Judith is getting on my t'ts. Weird overacting

Also why were they in poverty and then suddenly not in poverty?

What I've seen recently

Molly's Game - True story, very good film and Jessica Chastain is strangely fit

Daddy's Home 2 - Terrible

Battle of the Sexes - Really liked this, and another true story, very funny, bit of lessssbo action also!

Murder on the Orient Express - Terrible

Agreed on Mollys Game, good film and she looks ridiculous in it.

Daddy’s Home 2, bit of a mess, not hilarious but it was as expected and had its moments.

Slow West . Director: John MacLean .Year: 2015

A Directorial debut from John MacLean who delves into the deep American West with his closely knitted bounty hunter western Slow West. Starring Michael Fassbender as Silas Selleck ,the films main lead Hunter ,a subdued Kodi Smit-McPhee as Jay Cavendish a disowned young man wandering for his long lost love Rose Ross, who happens to have a nice fat $2,000 bounty slap bang on her Scottish forehead , and the usually dependable Ben Mendelssohn as Payne one of assemble of crooked ,overzealous gung-ho stinky multicultural bounty hunters.

From that intro alone I was well onboard so ,to much of my disappointed, the film tended to feel like abit of a lost cause.
If you, like me, was expecting a rough and tumble no punches pulled Leone-esq spaghetti Western then you’re in for abit of a disappointed. Or if you’re in for a tightly constructed character driven film with exceptional performances with greater depth then you’re also likely to be ,again, in for disappointed.

What you get is a film going through the motions. John MacLean’s eye and pacing is suitable for a slower paced narrative that builds on the tension of the West and its characters just as shame though that there doesn’t seem to be any real characters in the Slow West nor a great deal of tension.

Fassbender ,who hasn’t put in a great performance since he had cartoon papier-mâché fake head resting on his shoulders, casually performs his role with about as much depth as a glass of gin . His accidental sidekick Kodi Smith performs similarly.
So all bets rested on Ben Mendelssohn to give this film the charisma kick in the outback goolies it needed and…he fails miserably. I want my tense and intimidating Animal Kingdom Ben Mendelssohn back ! What has Hollywood done with him !

East Of Eden. Director : Elia Kazan. Year: 1955

Elia Kazan provides us once again with one of the great films, having Directed classics such as a Gentleman’s Agreement, A Streetcar Named Desire and On The Waterfront. Here he brings us the supremely talented though unfortunately short lived screen presence of James Byron Dean. Having introduced us earlier to the powerful boisterous presence of Brando Kazan goes a step further.

Detailing the story of two siblings. Aron Trask played by Richard Davalos shown as the moral sensible beacon of light and Caleb Trask played by Dean regarded as the wild, opportunistic sibling continually battling for the affection of his industrious business grounded and moral Christian headed father.

Narratively the film surrounds itself within the base of 4 characters and their intentions. The two siblings, the father and Aron Trask’s soon to be wife Abra Bacon played with a charming sensibility and open mindedness by Julie Harris.

All their little dramas unfold in the surrounding of 1917’s California’s coastal town Monterey ,with the lead up to the first world war underway.

Elia’s Direction is on point once again as his continual brilliance in getting performances from all involved continues. In a age where the rise of method acting was taking shape its interesting to see its early beginnings in Hollywood productions, with Dean and Brando at the forefront in giving their characters a greater world grittiness, complexity and more profound mannerisms.

Visually the film is shot with gorgeous simplicity and composition by The Sound Of Music’s Ted McCord with his use of lighting in more cosier settings strongly admired.

The score by Leonard Rosenman adds empathetic sound to align with the unfolding drama onscreen.

East Of Eden is comfortably a classic. Through to the films performances, cinematography and its sound design. The film is alive with character and depth.
One of the greats.

★★★★★

The Party .Director : Sally Potter .Year : 2017

Closely knitted independent black and white unfolding drama, with touches of comic farce and great moral themes. Starring a assemble of renowned actors such as Kristin Scott Thomas (English Patient, Only God Forgives) , Bruno Ganz (Wings Of Desire) , Timothy Spall ( Auf Wiedersehen ,Pet ,Mr Turner ) Patricia Clarkson (Dogville) and Cillian Murphy (everything) and more.

Each characters complex little dramas promulgate as they enter the house for what they hope to be a celebration of Janet’s ,played by K.S.Thomas ,promotion.

With clear narrative direction, sharp dialogue , a sensible use of black and white for intimacy and the continuous low angle shots to bring cinematic edge to proceedings Sally Potter’s direction and love for her characters cannot to be questioned.

One of this years pleasant little surprises.

There's still another one to come after that too!

Saw the Disaster Artist last night, anyone else watched it? I quite enjoyed it actually, was amusing and some of the scenes they shot were bang on point to The Room. Showed a few of the scenes side by side at the end credits which was funny.

posted on 8/12/17

Oh god.

I saw The Room a few year back where the hype for this terrible film was at breaking point
And yes it really is bad and surprisingly boring too.
Just stick to the Youtube clips.

Still will eventually catch up and watch The Disaster Artist.

posted on 8/12/17

Yeah a couple of my mates went into the film having only seen the 6 minute edited YouTube version of the Movie, which was enough to get the idea and make Disaster Artist enjoyable.
