Most are full of filler dialogue that amounts to nothing

Or amounts to entertainment?

Some elements of entertainment , but seemed pretty directionless filler at times.

To wualkft, nearly all films have some filler, but Tarantino take it to next level of directionless. Whilst occasionally it is inspired, most don’t add much to any plot line. I liked the inventiveness of pulp fiction, even if it wasn’t all that entertaining for me, redo our dogs had done clever moments, and a good use of soundtrack, but still nothing like as gond as other similar films of the era that had solid direction, usual suspects for example. Inglorious had some moments, but generally the characters were pretty unlikeable and didnt really grip me that much. Hateful 8 was a bore fest. Django was quite decent, but westerns have been done much better without trying to be clever.

I haven’t seen once upon a time, so can’t comment. He’s a good filmmaker and deserves a place in Hollywood history, but overated for me.

Tarantino is excellent at writing caricature cartoon characters and loading aligning stereotypes. His framing and camera movement is a little flat, but painting the scene is vibrant.

Kill Bills
Django Unchained
Pulp Fiction

The rest are quite meh, for me. Although NBK is better than all of those above. Oliver Stone may have something to do with that.

Of Nolan's work, only The Dark Knight has serious rewatch ability. Interstellar didn't capture me (was that the film with the ridiculous USB at the end? 😂).

I'm a bit out of touch with directors these days, but Scorsese, Lynch, Cronenberg, Scott, Stone were the guys in my media days. Although I did go through a big Asian patch and loved Kitano, and the guy that did Audition and the guy that did the Vengeance trilogy - Old Boy, Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for..

Hey JS if you liked the Vengeance Trilogy, then I would highly recommend the Handmaiden and Parasite.

I do like Tarantino movies for their dialogue, tension and general style. I do kind of agree that outside the big set pieces the movies can be a little directionless.

However, I would say that it is part of the style - sometimes it works with Pulp Fiction, and other times it doesn't.

I do find stylistically his movies can look kind of boring, but again I think he makes a conciouncicus decision to keep his movies looking grounded.

I will actually admit though, I'm not a fan of recent Scorsese movies, but then again I kind of find gangster stuff kind of boring...

I really liked Interstellar, but felt it dumbed scientific concepts down for the audience.

I find most of his other work really overrated tbh

Tarantino’s framing is very similar to the European cinema, especially the French New Wave. It is funny, considering his subject matter is nearly exclusively American, that his techniques are not. He doesn’t care for the kind of camera movements and oners that American movie makers tend to be attracted to.

His heroes are Godard, Corbucci and Leone and it shows.

Yeah agreed.

French New Wave seems to be his biggest influencer, but I kind of feel it's more relevant to his earlier career.

Inglorious is really good, Django Unchained and Hateful Eight have their moments; but I find them less fascinating than say Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction.

The Scorsese movies I do really like are Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

I do like some of his gangster movies - I really love Casino. But he does specialise within the genre, so it does leave me a little cold on a lot of his work.

Also, I'm not really a fan of either Shutter Island or The Wolf On Wall Street - particularly the latter where the lavish lifestyles got old quite quickly.

I would be interested to see The Last Temptation though.

I will try watch it over the weekend. I saw it the other day on an illegal streaming site.

It should be interesting though, because I have very little preconceptions on what it will be like.

I imagine it will be something similar to The Nice Guys

He has made 25 films, maybe six are gangster movies.

My favourite three Scorsese films are After Hours, Age of Innocence and Taxi Driver.

Scorcese has made and worked with the best actor's of my lifetime, imo, The Irishman was his farewell to his favourites.
