Lineker ....scored hatrick in a world cup game and a goal in wc semi final. Rooney can't lick his tournament boots mate!

When he went into a tournament with a clean bill of health and a decent set of players he was fine. The only time this has happened was in 2004. Its not happened since.

06 - Went into the tournament injured. Massively unfit when he played. Decent team though.

10 - Injured before the tournament. Unfit when it started. Crap team.

12 - Suspended for the first 2 games (his own fault), had not played a competitive game for 35 days prior to starting against Ukraine. Crap team.

14 - Really crap team and even worse tactics. He never even played up front. Was stuck out on the left wing for 2 games. Played 14 minutes of the 3rd dead rubber game.

All in all, he's played less than 14 games (in game time). 6 goals isn't too bad.

Lots of meaningless goals, in meaningless games.
Well done that man.

He's just top scorer, nothing more. It's a great achievement but it's not like he's being proclaimed our greatest ever player. In fact top scorers are rarely their countries best ever (Klose, Villa, RvP, Batistuta).

In fact one of the reasons so much is being made of this is because he's replacing someone who has a genuine claim as our best ever.

It's an achievement for sure but as usual the media hype around Rooney is a little extreme.

There's no need to add the but today.

He's our all time top scorer, a great achievement whatever the circumstances. Many others have tried and failed. That's it.

Debates about how great a player he is compared to others can be done on another day.

Bleat on all you like, the record book states Rooney is Englands leading scorer, your pain will subside soon boys and girls.

Well done Rooney, it's a great record to hold. It doesn't matter who he scored/didn't score against, the fact is the man achieved it, beating Sir Bobby, a fantastic player, in the process. Each is a United legend, and rightly so.
As far as Roomey is concerned, may he lose his goal scoring touch on Saturday.
Nothing personal, mind.

First he helps defeat the invincibles.

Then drags England along at Euro 2004

Wins all domestic honours

Breaks England scoring record as captain, who would think that would be possible?

All from an average player

Indeed, meanwhile some were worshipping a player who could not even lead his team to a league title and failed for England

Never won the FA cup.

Wouldn't expect an Everton fan to know what that is anyway, so no worries.

You say this HAS to be acknowledged.

Why?

Is it because he plays for Man Utd and you can't bring yourself to outright praise a United player, you have to temper it with something negative to sweeten the taste?

Nut up.

He hasnt had much competition and because of that was always on the teamsheet. England havnt had great options up front in the last few years.

How many strikers have had a chance to claim a place or Rooneys spot since his debut?

Clearly Rooney is the best option since his breakthrough.
