Console gaming
PC too much hassle, forever installing updates, things breaking, having to upgrade hardware every 6 months etc etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrading every 6 months is a bit of a myth. Most gaming companies make the games for a relatively modest PC Rig, because they need to cater to as wide a section of PC Gamers as possible. The other thing is that if you buy a high/mid range machine these days, generally you can play all the new games on the Ultra settings for at least 2 years easy.
Very often a better rig just means better graphics and effects, that aren't strictly needed to play the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This
Im always blown away by the stats that steam shows. I generally have a modest rig i5, nvidia 60/70 and this is usually in like the top 4% of steam users, the big majority use laptops/onboard gpus etc.
Also stuff has been ageing much better my 4 year old rig can comfortably play modern games on high settings with the odd couple set to medium.
i have an i5 rig with gtx 970
plays everythign absolutley fine, you can also get some seriously good games for penuts of things liek g2a I bought arkham knight for like 10 quid
If you build your PC right you wont go back.
Same as what someone else said, console for newer games, PC for older/simulation games
The only real reason i would need a console are for fighters and football games. Everything else I would prefer a PC.
I reckon everybody has a PC, so gaming is there for you if you want..
I personally like consoles because they're convenient, and developers prefer them as well
I like the trophy/achievement systems think they can add more life to a game than simply ploughing through the main story.
Hard to beat Age of Empires 1&2 back in the day on PC though
Randy i find the trophy/achievment system pointless. When they pop up i just get slightly aggrivated that they distract me from my task at hand. Ruins the immersive nature.
Some games do achievements right (Assassin's Creed II and Infamous) where they rely on you doing specific mechanics or tests of skill (such as doing a multiple leg sweep in Assassin's Creed).
Sadly most games just do the "reach level 40 in our half-arsed multiplayer" form of achievements. No interest in them.

Nah they're definitely not pointless. Some games as DH says have crap ones but most of the better games have achievements that are actually a lot of fun to go after and extend the life of a game. Gettin dem platinums is a cool little extra
If it's not for you then that's cool though
Couldnt care less about that tbh.
Im guessing completionists love them though
Don't you like to get as much out of a game as you can?
Apparently not if that means getting useless and boring achievements.
I go for the main aspect of the game.
RtM the casual, likes to do as little as possible before finishing a game
TBH i just like to watch the intro cinema to a game then i watch a utoob of someone finishing the game and sell mine back for half the price the same day.
I'm such a casual gamer today that I agree with RtM. when I got out of uni I got into the ps2 and tried to do everything in games like gta 3 and metal gear etc.. now days i just put on easy and if the game is good i'll try to play it again and find everything. I think if VG companies would sell 100% gamesaves they'd make a killing from people like me

I'm the same, rarely finish or put many many hours into games now days.
One game that seemed to hook me until I completed the story was Mirrors Edge on the 360.
Also Skyrim, which is odd for me as that's not usually my type of game.

Not really, you can easily use a game pad with the PC. I'm pretty sure the xbox pads just plug n play with Windows
Of course a PC is the better option for FPS games anyway and the same with RTS I would imagine, you can definately get a much higher apm with a keyboard and mouse. There is a reason most pro level gamers are all on PC format.
I atually prefer FPS' on pad and console than pc, keyboard n mouse....wait for it .. you require more skill on a pad !
Wait for it , and you PC users stop foaming at the mouth as you read this !
Firstly I aint saying that its technically better than the keyboard obv its easier to aim using the mouse and keyboard... hence why i prefer the pad. Its gives a greater gap in the skilled players. As I said its easier to hip fire, precision aim and deal with recoil on a mouse therefore its therefore harder to get headshots and deal with recoil etc on a pad.
For me one of the reasons that CoD became so poor was it catered to the masses and made aiming far easier, less recoil and headshots galore. Ie it dumbed down the difficulty. I feel this is similar to what happens with Keyboard and mouse anyone can get headshots using that however put recoil and distance onto a console and pad and the skilled players stand out a helluva lot more.
Sorry delboy but what a pile of steaming <please enter animal of choice and prefered fe ces> its like me suggesting the same with driving games and steering wheels vs game pads. Difference is most console fps games have aim assist, any competitive pc game does not.
Definitely harder on a pad. But it's harder for everyone so...

I take aim assist off Simon, absolutely hate it, It automatically draws your cursor to the enemies chest (not where I wanna be aiming, it can also affect your aim on a guy if another enemy runs by it draws your aim). All i can do is compare from what i have seen on early planetside PC and PS4 where cross platform and the PC players wiped the floor with the PS4 players. And i mean demolished them so much so they had to do away with it there was far far too much bias. Personally I have tried both and have been thinking about buying the keyboard and mouse for the PS4 just for my shooters. C'mon Simon for precision aiming and especially games like Battlefield especially there is a MASSIVE difference between ease of firing on a mouse and control pad ...... tell me this what is the preferred choice for shooters on PC is it pad or mouse ..... well we know its mouse .... then ask .. why? cos its far far easier to use, more precice and quicker
ps simon there are actually some games in which pads are faster than wheels !! ie need for speeds were developed FOR the pad and not the wheel there is also sometimes hidden steering assists built into the game for pad users. I could go into it in depth but would ruin this thread and be pretty boring i imagine
I am not saying it isnt easier, but just to say getting head shots is soooo easy on mouse and keyboard and thus controllers means more skill is so far off the mark. Nick pretty much hits it on the head, it is as equally difficult for controllers as it is for "easy head shots" on keyboard and mouse players. Keyboard and mouse is certainly more precise for fps's no doubt, but dont try to lessen the skill required to be a good player on keyboard and mouse is what i am taking issue with.
