Maradona & teenage Ronaldo the best for me.
Blarmy, as good as Ronaldo was in '02, he was about 50% what he was at 19-21. Pains me to admit, as that was the time he was at Madrid, but he never even came close to the heights he hit at Barça.
Dinho meantime was still a little green in '02, and Rivaldo's best seasons were arguably just behind him. It was actually the season Barça sold him off to Milan.
If Ronaldo isn't Top 2, it'll be a travesty.
He got 48 goals & 16 assists in the league last season. Plus was joint-top CL scorer with 10.

He had loads of chances. Of the 8 goals, only two were good goals. The rest were tap ins, deflections etc.

Rijkaard wasn't a forward. I'll give you Gullit, though you could argue that even he was more an AM.
They were a class trio but don't think they are comparable individually, or collectively, to this Barca lot.

United in 99 was because our players weren't allowed to vote for their own teammates. That's not the case with the Balon D'or.

Yes I know that, but didn't loads of the players get voted for which meant they all got small percentages of the voting? So maybe there's a case of people voting for Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez or Neymar, with the latter pair having a split of the votes?

They only look good because they have Xavi pulling the strings behind them. Take Xavi away and they would barely get into double figures for the season.

There's that and also the case that all the United players had to vite for Ginola so that weighed heavily in his favour.
This isn't really comparable. It's no different to any other year.

I thought his general play was pretty good that wc. Ge and rivaldo linked up well
Henry, Trezeguet & Zidane should have been amazing in 2002 & 2004...
But they bombed at both tournaments.

No doubt, on of the greatest individual feats in WC history imo considering he'd barely been able to play at all for the best part of 2 1/2 years.
But I stand by what I said. Imagine what he was like when he had an extra 2 yards of pace on him.
He was absolutely jawdropping when he first hit the scene, unlike anything I'd ever seen before (and I'd seen Maradona).
Ronaldo's combination of skill, power, speed and precision was totally unreal, like something that could only have been concocted in some secret hi-tech lab deep in the Amazon rainforest.
Miss him.

Wasn't too dissimilar to watching Lomu play for the All Blacks. There was a goal vs Valencia reminded me of Lomu's famous try where he steamrolled Mike Catt.
