Easily the most memorable achievement in football.
Us pipping Villa to 4th in 2009 has got to be up there too!
They haven't won it yet. I can see Leicester City dropping 5 points.
"Depends what modern times mean?"
I'd say that means since the birth of the PL and the huge increase in money into the game.

I can see us dropping two points at the most and that's only if Vardy is unavailable against United. If he is we will draw but if not we'll win. We'll also beat Everton and Chelsea.
Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon as a wild card entry
I want Leicester to finish the job now but I do think we'll beat them at OT.
arro
No doubt you could win at OT and while I think we're a pretty average side we do have the best home record. Even with Vardy I can see the result going any way TBH. All depends what United and Leicester sides turn up. Both have the ability to nullify the opponents and I could quite easily see a drab 0-0.
Think you'll win against Everton which would leave the Chelsea game, hopefully by then Spurs will have already dropped points to Chelsea but if not it wouldn't at all surprise me if Chelsea 'lost' the game.
If you just look at the league title, Leicester's in 2016 is probably more impressive than Forest's in 1978 as it was more common for teams to win promotion and push for the title before the PL era.
I think Derby, Leeds, Watford, Ipswich, all won or challenged for the top division not long after getting promoted.
Forest did do it in consecutive season's though, promoted in '77, first division champions in '78, so as a one-off domestic achievement it's pretty close to call.
Also, Forest's first European Cup could also be hailed as the greatest achievement ever, it depends what angle you want to take.
Back to the OP.
FC Twente winning the Dutch league was a great achievement for them ahead of the traditional big clubs.
Plenty of more deserving achievements. Inter, United, Barca and Bayern have all won trebles, Spain have won back to back international competitions.
If being an underdog makes it better, then Denmark and Greece winning the EURO's tops it, even Dortmund and Atletrico's prolonged success it could be argued.
Not to belittle Leicester, as far as an underdog goes, it's up there. For me however, the pinnacle is to win there is to win.
Dafol
It was very good but the big three at the time were shadows of their previous sides. Only the season before LVG's Alkmaar had won the title with Twente runners up both seasons either side of their title win.
Even now the big 3 are pretty poor sides which is sad to see. Always loved seeing a strong Dutch side in Europe.

--------------------------------------------------------
But they are gonna win something...
Busby
What the hell are you talking about? Denmark and Greece were not bigger underdogs, it was also a cup competition where only a few games were played and in Greece's case they did it by being ultra defensive.
The fact Inter, Barca and Bayern have all won trebles in the space of a few years shows how less impressive it is in todays squad based game.

I know the top three were not as good as could be but you could say that about the PL this season.
I was just trying to think of something similar in recent times.
For me though Leicester will top the lot judging where they were a year ago. Truly remarkable.

I think Busby misses the key point in the article?
Hellas Verona is probably the closest thing in any of the top divisions in recent years but even that reading more into showed they were actually quite a good side for a little while and while the title was a surprise and they had some insanely good teams then it wasn't as much a surprise as Leicester.
It really is a unique and incredible achievement, if they make it!
Even if they finish second, it's still incredible.
To put into context, think about it the other way round and if it was an underperformance They were bottom last year and are now in with a very good chance of winning the title, with a few changes to the playing squad.
The equivalent decline is for you for example to finish 20th the season after winning the title. Moyes only took you down to seventh, that's just how big a drop/rise it is that they have done.

A league title, not a domestic cup and CL too.
Again, for me the pinnacle is to be the absolute best. Winning as an underdog is secondary imo.
It's all about opinions of course.

We're defensively excellent and we won't leave space in behind for Rashford and Martial to exploit and for you to beat us I feel that's what you need.
Our centre halves will win the physical battle and two young lads up against two brutes isn't going to be easy for them at all and pace won't really come into it because there won't be any space. It will be balls into feet and Morgan and Huth behind them making it very difficult.
We'll set up to hit you on the counter and the way you play will be perfect for us to do that. We will have our two banks of four which you'll have to play through and once we get the ball we'll make the most of the space you leave and we'll cause you a lot of problems, if not with Vardy then with Schlupp. His final ball isn't great but he has the pace and directness to cause a lot of problems. We're an extremely difficult team to beat and we have the best away record in the league.
We know that if we beat United then we can win the league at home against Everton and there is no bigger incentive than that. You might need points and want to win to get into the CL but there's no way that will compare with our desire and determination to win the league. I don't think United are playing well and if you defend like you have in recent games then we will beat you, I think you will need to up your game quite a lot to stop us from winning.

Leicester didn't finish bottom, so it would be more like 4th place being relegated.
Either way, if Leicester win the league it'll be great for the romantic, people of my generation, born in the mid-eighties to the early-nineties have been programmed to think that what is happening now was impossible.
It's a thing of a bygone age and unless you you pumped hundreds and hundreds of millions into your first team on world superstars and didn't have one of the cool, upcoming tiki-taka, gegenpressing, false nine, philosophy type managers then you couldn't win the league.
Leicester and Ranieri have blown that out of the water, I don't think this will be a flukey one-off, with the new TV deals we've had players don't HAVE to join one of the elite clubs to earn a huge pay-packet, they can do it at Leicester or Spurs.
I can see Spurs dropping at least 2 points minimum as they have hard fixtures.
"It's all about opinions of course."
But it is still a strange one. So basically if a club assembled the greatest ever squad known to man, them winning the treble would be more impressive that a group of blind disabled people winning the league?
Like I said, winning a treble these days in a squad based game is less impressive as the big sides will have the squad to deal with multiple games. The fact a treble has been achieved 4 times by 3 separate clubs since 2009 kind of shows that.
