If Spurs do go on to win the league, they will be the first club ever to win the league after being top for just the last week or game of the season.

.........

Premiership era yes, but Burnley in 1959/60 were the only team ever to win the title without ever being top during the season until after the last game had been played
----------------------------------------------------------------------
almost right but not quite after beating everton 3-2 on the 25 august 1959 burnley were top...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy, can you clarify this for us please? You must have been, what, mid forties during this season so you must remember it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
in those days the table was published after 3 games..burnley everton was game 2..but on my stats burnley were top 25 august..sorry to be such an anorak..

Can we please stop talking about what's going to happen when / if we win the league.

WTF, are you not supporting Spurs then. FFS another one putting up the white flag before the season has ended. Why do you think supporting Spurs and thinking they may still win the league is arrogant. I just don`t get it mate.

how`s that relevant? Spurs had not beaten Man United at WHL for about 20 years, but they went back to Manchester truly wounded.

Ah so thats it then, technically they were top after the second game but as tables werent published until after the 3rd they are perceived to be the only champions never to be top

Interesting to know that, fair play to you

your welcome..its certainly a rare feat if tottenham can manage it....bearing in mind they lost their first game of the season..

Course I'm supporting spurs. I'd absolutely love it if we win the league and will be celebrating like a mad man at that point!

We haven't won it yet though, and it's not even in our hands. It's realism, not pessimism.

You keep coming on and predicting Leicester are going to start losing, and I don't get it! They've only lost three all season. But that's opinion and I'm all for differences in opinion

It's just that in the last week we keep getting articles saying we're better than all these clubs and 'when we win the league, this will happen' etc. I don't mean this one specifically. Just reckon we should all wait a few weeks before we start crowing!

as a kid i can just remember the great 61 title winning spurs team losing a very rare game to west brom at home 1-2 in that season..dont want to put a damper on proceedings..

So unlike sandy to construct a conditional sentence.
Or does the use of affirmative word such as "if", means that he is finally intouch with the reality ?

I was at that game, it was the week before the cup final with the title already wrapped up by 10 points, the only annoying thing about that game it would have enabled Spurs to have beaten at the time Arsenal`s record points total for the 1st Division of 66 points.

History only goes back as far as when one was born.

In this case, 2004

Sorry mate if you think I am going to watch Spurs play all season with my mouth firmly shut in case I upset my own supporters or the opposition supporters, then you have another think coming. What is the actual point of supporting your club if you are frightened to say anything until the season ends. Pointless may as well not bother. Supporters that sit on the fence are not my cup of team, sorry mate. Easiest thing in the world to give an opinion after the event, fecking boring though.

Spurs were probably cheated out of the semi with Benfica, with the three disallowed goals, but they were two epics games against a very fine Benfica side with Eusabio at his peak.

Dave Mackay`s shop in Enfield still has his name over the shop front, although long since stopped being a shop selling ties.

You sound like a very knowlegeable supporter mate. Do you remember the days at Highbury with Jack Kelsey, David Herd, Joe Baker, Baker, George Eastham, etc

If spurs win the title admin need to have some help at hand, as there's going to be a couple of Liverpool fans a few Arsenal fans and about 65 Chelsea fans needing support from the mental breakdown they will have.
