Transfer Deadline Day LIVE *SLIMANI SIGNS*

posted on 31/8/16

The BBC are reporting that Slimani's having a medical. I know that's probably unsurprising news, but it's good to know that things are progressing as planned. After all, transfers are never done until they're done, if you see what I mean.

Some moderately exciting news - Vichai has liked a post on Instagram about Slimani joining Leicester. I would say that it's pretty much certain he will sign before the deadline.

Nothing more on Silva, looks like this one is dead...for now. Will we go back in for him January? We missed out on Musa last window then signed him. I wouldn't rule it out, plus we'll definitely need reinforcements in January as we'll be losing a fair chunk of our squad for the AFCON.

Finally, a fun fact: on this day in 2010, we signed Martyn Waghorn and Yuki Abe. Not much has changed since then...

Just read we've agreed the release clause of £38.5m for Silva.,

I think that was the report in The Sun, which was then picked up by about 3 million ITK sites. Rob Tanner thinks it's a no-goer.

Some reports now that Slimani has passed his medical so we could be getting news fairly soon.

Talk Sport reporting that Lazar Markovic is going on loan to Sporting Lisbon. Is that perhaps a consequence of Silva moving on?

Fair point that the owners could afford it, at least in the short term. But also I wouldn't want such transfer policy to become a millstone around the club's neck as I fear that could actually hamper development in the long run.

Incidentally, I'm sure John Gee would disagree with pretty much everything I've written today.

Stop lacking ambition Dunge. It's people like you holding our club back.

I mean, that careful building under Pearson gained us what? Nothing. Nothing at all. When we blew the budgets and went big under Ranieri that won us the league.

Careful building over a number of years with a clear team ethic gets you nowhere so stop spouting rubbish and start banging the drum to re-sign Beckford for £62m...

.... is I'm sure what JG would say to that!!

Slimani has passed his medical - about to be announced for £30m

I can't see Silva happening and we are worryingly short in central midfield - we really do need a midfield general - other than DD

Looks like we're relying on Amarty or Mendy BS.

Unless a surprise transfer happens. And at this stage I normally find surprise transfers are more commonly classed as "panic buys"!

Mersey CR did nothing last season but consolidate NP's players give them belief and love. Now we are in a different place and need the players we are buying to maintain that progression.

So we will forget what they cost just what they can do good or bad

posted on 31/8/16

I don't think Leicester do panic buys. They will have identified several targets no doubt and it's a case of there being time to switch to another one - and I don't think there is in this case

I'm concerned with the midfield because it's looked very weak up until Swansea - and I'm not sure how much of that is to do with how bad they were?

The midfield is a concern and I was hoping to have either Silva or N'Zonzi signed by now. But I think Amartey really stepped up against Swansea and he looks like the most natural fit to replace Kante we have. Yes it was only Swansea but if we don't sign a CM, let's give him a longer run in the team.

Agree Foxello. It's unfair on Andy King to play that role which is why he was so anonymous in midfield

posted on 31/8/16

King is a bad fit in a two when Drinkwater is the other midfielder. He could work in a midfield three, or as a partner to Amartey if Drinky is missing, but in a two with Drinky he sticks out like a sore thumb at this level.

The last question mark seems to be whether Ulloa will leave or if he'll stay as our fifth choice striker. Swansea still most likely option if we allow him to leave.

A twist in the Silva saga - Spanish newspaper DS reporting that the deal is ON. Can't see it myself but you never know...

Sorry, AS.

Woohoo!!!!!

Shame about the central midfield. But this is a great signing.

Very happy with this signing, the additional goal scorer we needed with added Champions League football. Silva deal seems off as they'd surely be announced together? Any hope of any last minute deals do we reckon?

Nothing else happening......

Splendid news.

If Ulloa is going anywhere then it looks a bit late for a permanent deal.
