Forest v Newcastle - Match Thread

There were some marry Geordies outside the ground trying to intimidate families and old Forest fans coming out of the Brian Clough Stand. Made the victory even more pleasurable. There were some more reasonable ones on Lady Bay Bridge who politely asked for directions to the city centre so they weren't all big time Charlie's.

Mardy Geordies too!!...

Thought Osborn had a great game and was always eager to receive the ball. Compare him to international Kasami and the comparison is striking.

Cash looked eager on the right and did his best against some good players. Good experience for him.

Lichaj put some effort in down the left. Didn't bring the balance that Pinillos brings for example but little got by him when it was 11v11.

Pleased as I am with three (more) points, I have got too say we were pretty awful, in fact clueless, we kept lumping the ball into the box with little chance of winning it. However, that said, the result is what matters. Kasami is a massive disappointment, Lam looks better in midfield than defence and Bendtner needs to start playing like he believes he can. Can't see anyone stopping the Mags but I think they'll be after revenge at the end of the month. We've had 3 unconvincing performances but won them all, now let's make it click next weekend and show the sheep who we really are. BC trophy back to the CG where it belongs.

Can't see this 'three unconvincing performances' stuff.

Had to listen tonight, and Barnsley was somewhat unconvincing (apart from us scoring 5 away from home!), but Ipswich???

Well on top first half, could have had more goals. Dropped too deep for my liking 2nd half but defended really well and should have had a third when Kasami hit the post. Nothing unconvincing about that performance.

I think people don't give Newcastle enough credit.

Newcastle, even with 9 men put forward one of the best defensive displays at the city ground in recent memory. Then they also have a lot of quality up front.

That we rattled them/pressured them enough to get two penalties, and two other goals against a team that will probably go up comfortably is very good.

Gotta mention that it wasn't until they went a man down and Newcastle got some impetus, they didn't look like scoring.

Very good performance, from a team a lot written off a month ago, against league leaders who set out the stalls after going ahead on their only real attempt on goal.

Just saw the incidents and they looked clear penalties and red cards to me. Shelvey swings a boot with both playewrs on the ground and kicks Henri in the nuts. Dummett lets Lans get goalside and pushes him over. Both inside the box.

Don't care if Lansbury exaggerated the effects of both challenges. Sick of other teams doing that to us and refs falling for it.

And if the rule about clear goalscoring opportunity has been changed, Lam's red card a few weeks ago was wrong.

The Shelvey incident was off the ball though rather than a foul. Don't see how that is a penalty. Dummet one is debatable. The way I saw it, Lansbury waited to be ran into rather than attempt to try and score.

Eager is one thing but l thought he had a terrible game it was his dispossession that lead to their goal when all he had to do was pass rather than play out himself. He kept losing the ball due to his poor control and his constant lumping the ball up field hoping to find one our players makes me conclude he had a poor game.

Pts, yeah ok your right about the Ipswich performance, I was perhaps a little harsh there, but the other two games we certainly road our luck, but three points are three points and as we all know, wins breed confidence.

This is the championship and it's a slogging match. Sometimes it goes for you, others not. It was an average performance with a great result.

Yeah, just watched it back and he was a bitnl erratic. Little too over confident at times, especially where he lost the ball for their goal. Still, he has the makings of a decent player if he learns.

we couldn't beat 9 men

That would have been a torturous chant at SJP at the end of the month!

I'd prefer DDV back to Darlow.

Lascelles would look good alongside Worrall and Iacovitti.

Then we'd just need Antonio, Burke, Guedioura and McLeary back.

Have to say that whilst Darlow saved 2 pentalies, and could thinknhe did all he could - he was in fact at fault for bith goals he cinceded

He is a great shot-stopper - but as Stuart Pearce alluded to on Sky before the game, his over all positioning and control of the area is very suspect

And so it proved
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In fairness, with them down to nine men, the instruction from Benitez would've been to go for every ball into the area which is a tall task.

I suppose last night was entertaining for the neutrals, but for me we had to grind it out; but that isn't a criticism, it's what you have to do to win matches very often.

I though we looked a little unbalanced as well. We need to get a quality midfielder and a LB in January. As weeks pass Traore looks more and more like a really bad signing. I would like Jokic back, I don't think he even gets on the bench these days; and I'd make a bid for Tom Lawrence in midfield.

Can't see us signing a LB Red given we have Pinillos, Fox and Traore. Plus Cohen and Lichaj who can fill in. But I do agree that Traore is a liability. It's a shame because if he could get a run of games he'd be decent cover for Pinillos. Perhaps if we could offload Fox and replace him then great.

Jokic all day long, was excellent ent last season, far too good to be warming a bench somewhere. Sort out the Lansbury situation bring in one more midfielder, forget about Kasami, complete waste of a contract unfortunately, and I think we Would be pretty well set.👍
